FPL team news: Gameweek 21 Covid latest plus injury updates

We’ve got the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) team news information in our first press conference summary ahead of Gameweek 21.

Thursday’s pressers feature words from Leicester City, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United.

For much more detailed information, check out our Predicted Line-ups page (which is being refreshed on Friday evening) and Injuries and Bans feed.

And for other help and advice, from our weekly Scout Picks to team reveals, there will soon be a complete Gameweek 21 guide.

LEICESTER CITY

 1

James Maddison and Jamie Vardy were both seen struggling in the second half of Leicester’s win over Liverpool and the update brings mixed news. Whilst in-form Maddison was expected to be fine to face former club Norwich (a game that was subsequently postponed), manager Brendan Rodgers believes Vardy will be out for at least a few weeks with a hamstring injury.

“It depends, it could be the next three to four weeks (for Vardy). He wasn’t sure whether it was that (in a challenge with Joël Matip) or he felt the pain then. He ran on and soldiered on which he wanted to do, but the scan has shown up as that (a hamstring injury) so it could be three to four weeks.” – Brendan Rodgers

The injuries have really piled up for the Foxes and the situation is about to be made worse now that Kelechi Iheanacho, Wilfred Ndidi and Daniel Amartey are set to depart for African Cup of Nations duty and miss Gameweek 21.

Although Harvey Barnes (knock) is back training with the squad and Ryan Bertrand (knee) isn’t far behind, Rodgers added that the others “are still at least three weeks away” from returning – referring to the likes of Ricardo Pereira (leg), Caglar Soyuncu (hamstring), Jonny Evans (hamstring), Patson Daka (hamstring), James Justin (match fitness) and Wesley Fofana (leg).

“JJ (James Justin), we just need to get some games into him, he was due to play a game and he was off for 10 days or so, so he’s going to be a few weeks away. He’s back training, which is great news for us. Wesley Fofana, we’re looking into February for him.” – Brendan Rodgers

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR

Steven Bergwijn (calf) got hurt during Gameweek 19’s 3-0 win over Crystal Palace, which Antonio Conte says will keep him out of the trip to Watford.

Cristian Romero remains absent with a hamstring injury, while Ryan Sessegnon is targeting next weekend’s FA Cup game to return from his.

Giovani Lo Celso (calf) is back available, however.

“Giovani Lo Celso has recovered from his injury, and he’s available for the game against Watford. Romero, Bergwijn and Sessegnon are still out, but the good news for us is Giovani has recovered.” – Antonio Conte

WEST HAM UNITED

On top of the known injuries to Angelo Ogbonna (knee) and Kurt Zouma (hamstring), another absentee has been named as Pablo Fornals (Covid).

“We don’t have any more numbers because it’s something you can’t really say much about. It changes daily. We’re completely unsure what’s going to happen, but today’s update would be we’re pretty clear.” – David Moyes’ Covid update

It is still unknown as to when Aaron Cresswell will return from the back injury that has kept him out of action since Gameweek 14.

FPLMarc Newcastle fan that spends far too much time thinking about FPL.

When will people become wise to blindly believing everything Ben Crellin says is gospel? His whole existence is purely "the fixtures guy" and therefore he is continually reaching for reasons to "wow" everyone that these titbits and insights he gets means something is "80% to 100%"likely to happen. It's continual reaching and trying to predict the unpredictable. Its not as if he has even got a decent track record. Bizarrest bandwagon since Theo Walcott! 😆 Everyone just needs to wait for actual news that is confirmed.

Lol pretty sure every other tweet he does he always emphasizes nothin g is certain.

All he does is visualize what could happen based on tv rights and scheduling. He never advertise he does more than that. Vast majority disagrees with you on how useful his stuff is

I think with so many unknowns this season most of his work is simply a waste of time

The situation is changing so quickly on a daily basis his spreadsheets and double gameweek predictions really have no weight as much effort as he puts in

Yes teams on paper may have a double gameweek. Will they happen? Who knows. Even if they are confirmed by premier league they may still be postponed

This isn’t the season for any king term planning right now

Why would you blindly believe anything? Ben's work is helpful information for consideration, pretty sure that's all he's pitching it as also.

Anyone saying it's a waste of time is missing the point and likely the first to bemoan their own luck, which in the long run, favours the prepared.

Just don't know what to do anymore. Nothing seems to be working this season. Around 480k. Especially depressing because finished 11k last season and 3k the season before. Used one FH last GW.

As someone who was fully committed to FH21 I think it's fair to say that trying to play either FH in 21 or BB in 22 would be a season-defining mistake. All the fixtures will arrive in March/April and it's going to be mayhem.

I would prefer FH in 21 to BB in 22.

BB at this period of time is too risky, you may still only have "playing" players up to 12 or 13 even using BB.

BB this season is going to be a nightmare. Many need to WC asap, but without WC and only one FH BB during later dgw is going to be very difficult.

Yeah I think for BB maybe no plan is the best plan. Just wing it and if you hit a week that looks good just play it, with week 37 as something to fall back on.

One BB strategy could be having for example Sanchez, Cucurella and Lamptey and 8th attacker with good fixtures. Simply WC when they have good dgw and everyone else also plum fixtures.
