Gallagher on target as Butland impresses: FPL Double Gameweek 22 notes

In the opening match of Double Gameweek 22, Brighton and Hove Albion grabbed a late equaliser to earn a draw against Crystal Palace in a lively M23 derby.

Our Scout Notes article reflects on the key Fantasy Premier League (FPL) talking points from the fixture.

GALLAGHER HITS 100 POINTS

Conor Gallagher’s (£6.1m) opener at the Amex on Friday means that he is the eighth FPL player to hit 100 points this season, following Mohamed Salah (£12.8m), Trent Alexander-Arnold (£8.4m), Joao Cancelo (£7.0m), Jarrod Bowen (£6.7m), Son Heung-min (£10.7m), Bernardo Silva (£7.5m) and Diogo Jota (£8.3m).

The Chelsea loanee has seen his ownership drop to 17.4% after missing successive matches against Norwich City and West Ham United, but now back in the starting XI, netted his seventh Premier League goal of the season against Brighton, with an instinctive strike against the run of play in the second-half.

“Conor Gallagher has got that energy and understands when to get in the box with that timing and he will continue to keep scoring goals for us.” – Patrick Vieira

However, Gallagher’s goal was Palace’s only shot in the box all night, as they once again failed to offer much threat in the final-third.

Crystal Palace’s xG shot map v Brighton and Hove Albion in Double Gameweek 22

Despite that, tonight’s 1-1 draw does at least end a run of three away matches without scoring, after failing to find the back of the net against Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and Leeds United.

Patrick Vieira, meanwhile, named six players aged 23 or younger in his starting XI, including Eberechi Eze (£5.9m) – making his first Premier League start of 2021/22 – and the talented Michael Olise (£5.4m), who has been directly involved in five goals as a substitute this season.

In truth, both players failed to make much of an impact, but will surely be handed further opportunities to impress in the coming weeks, with wingers Wilfried Zaha (£6.8m) and Jordan Ayew (£5.8m) both currently representing their countries at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

BUTLAND IMPRESSES

Gallagher on target as Butland impresses: FPL Double Gameweek 22 notes 1

In his pre-match press conference, Patrick Vieira had said that Vicente Guaita (£4.6m) “wasn’t fit enough” to feature against Millwall in the FA Cup last week and would “hopefully” be back against Brighton.

However, the Spaniard only made the bench, with reserve keeper Jack Butland (£4.4m) impressing in his absence and saving a penalty, whilst also drawing plenty of praise from his manager after the full-time whistle.

“Jack Butland was the man of the match. I am delighted for him. He is working hard every single day. He needed a chance and he was at his best today and that allowed us to go home with the point.

He had been training all week. It was a good save in the first half, he came for crosses, he saved the penalty. He showed all his potential. He deserved it for the way he has been working and waiting. I am glad for him.” – Patrick Vieira

HARD TO BEAT BRIGHTON

Gallagher on target as Butland impresses: FPL Double Gameweek 22 notes 5

The Seagulls have lost just four games all season – only the top three have lost fewer – and were much the better side against Palace, but failed to keep a clean sheet despite limiting their opponents to just one shot in the box and 0.47 expected goals (xG).

With Chelsea up next, followed by an away trip to Leicester City and a blank, owners may be looking to move on their assets, though it is worth noting that from Gameweek 25 onwards, they embark on a kind run which includes back-to-back matches against Watford (a), Burnley (h), Aston Villa (h) and Newcastle United (a).

Surprisingly, despite two successive rests, Tariq Lamptey (£4.5m) started on the bench against Palace, with Joel Veltman (£4.2m) preferred at right-back. However, the youngster was heavily involved upon his introduction on 56 minutes, receiving 18 passes in the final third – only Jakub Moder (£4.5m) had more.

After tonight’s draw, Brighton are unbeaten in their last four matches, taking eight points in that time, as many as they managed in their previous 11 top-flight fixtures.

Brighton and Hove Albion XI: Sanchez, Veltman (Welbeck 73), Webster, Burn, Cucurella, Moder, Gross (March 73), Lallana (Lamptey 56), Mac Allister, Trossard, Maupay

Crystal Palace XI: Butland, Ward, Andersen, Guehi, Mitchell, Hughes, Schlupp, Gallagher, Olise (Benteke 81), Eze (Milivojevic 66), Edouard (Mateta 66)

    Sorry for the late one

Arsenal are expecting there application to be rejected and the match to go ahead.

They feel the media pressure hasnt helped and the FA will buckle.

Obviously this isnt 100% as no one knows what the panel will decide but Arsenal are expecting to play

I just want to make it extra clear I'm not saying the game definitely goes ahead as the panel havent even met yet.

But it's the feeling at AFC

I don't really know if this makes sense. If they're at least 2 players short and the PL have called off games for less then for their sake I don't think it's fair when so many others have had games called off for the same reasons. I'm not saying I agree with it but the PL have set a precedent multiple times here so unless they're going to change the rules which they're going by for these decisions then I imagine it won't go ahead.

not hundreds of teams, but thousands of hits on maybe around 20 teams, dragging the average very low.
If you look at transfer history for a hacked team it makes hudnreds of transfers a minute (look at the times). So its a bot they are using

There’s no need to have unlimited transfers, it’s a quick fix to have a maximum of 6 unless on free hit or similar, and don’t allow teams to be deleted mid season. Job done

just something like a email confirmation to delete the team would have been already good.

my team is apparently deleted by hackers, and I have 0 email from FPL tower about it. I didnt know it till my friend told me about it, all I can see from my end is the 'incorrect email and password' error

              • 4 Years

The first thing they would do is change the password and then associated email, then activate the bot. So you wouldnt get an email at all, unless they incorrectly entered ur password. FPL doesnt email you for logging in from a strange device or location like google or something does.

IDK how they delete a team exactly, but they are probably using the report abusive name feature, and using it to delete teams.

Why allow for it at all, they could have access to email too as many use same passwords. Or allow deletion pending the end of the season, which gives a safety net to undo it

I've got Son who will most likely become Salah when he returns. As long as they keep parallel price drops it makes little difference to me and it frees up a transfer elsewhere.

Cristiano Ronaldo training ground reveal gives Man United huge worry for Aston Villa clash

    http://www.birminghammail.co.uk

Manchester United have been left sweating over the fitness of Cristiano Ronaldo after he reportedly left training early ahead of the clash against Aston Villa.

Ralf Rangnick’s men have been stepping up their preparations for Saturday’s trip to Villa Park - having knocked Steven Gerrard's men out of the FA Cup at Old Trafford last weekend.

Scott McTominay’s first-half header was enough to separate the two teams in an enthralling encounter in which Villa will have felt hard done by to lose.

Ronaldo missed that game with a slight injury but looked set to return for this weekend’s encounter.

However, as reported by The Sun , the Portuguese could now be a doubt for the game after leaving training early on Thursday with a thigh injury.

The report says that the injury is a "separate problem" from the one that kept out of the FA Cup tie and that it was "picked up in training".

It is said that Ronaldo was assessed by United’s medical team before heading home and using his own private oxygen chamber which aids recovery from injury.

The 36-year-old is reported to be "desperate" to be deemed fit enough to play against Villa in order to help his teammates reignite their season.

The Red Devils’ last league outing saw them lose 1-0 against Wolves at Old Trafford, a game in which they had just nine shots compared to the 19 of their opponents.

Speaking ahead of the game, and before the latest problem emerged, Ronaldo offered an injury update concerning the problem that saw him sit out last weekend’s meeting.

“I’m good. I just have a little touch, but it’s just part of my work - you have to feel pain sometimes,” he said. “It’s nothing big. I hope to be good soon,” “I’m hopeful [I’ll be ready for Villa]. I will try to train as normal before, and let’s see how the body reacts. Fingers crossed, I’m confident.

“I know my body 100%. Experience gives you better opportunities to understand your mind and body. I’m a different player now, but my ambition is still the same - I want to help the team.”

I couldn't bring myself to start Gallagher, so I have an Arsenal defender starting instead. After already taking a hit, I was considering another for Livramento to Cucurella, but Brighton's upcoming blank turned me off, and after today's result, that's worked out ok. (I have Sanchez too).

But Gallagher is laughing at me from the bench. Maybe Arsenal don't play? They will now surely. But I guess i can't be too mad after Bowen(c) last GW.

“Couldn’t bring myself to start Gallagher”. What did he do that was bad. I’d have played him for Friday night entertainment alone lol

He didn't do anything bad, he was just on the road vs Brighton. I like the rest of my team, and White (my Arsenal D) seemed like the weak spot admittedly, but this morning the swell of sentiment seemed to lean toward Arsenal's request being granted.

This reported hacking saga is a significant challenge to the integrity of FPL, and potentially FPL related sites that require member login etc.

Would welcome (actually request) a statement from FSS on this matter. Leaving the request open so FFS management can choose what aspects of the issue they believe require addressing.

Serious question, and I hope I dont get in trouble for asking, but has FFS had a data breach? Seems that too many people associated with this site have had fpl accounts hacked either this season or last. There has to be a recurring theme outside of the fpl site, and maybe this is it.

I think its advisable to change passwords and have a different password here to fpl.
To mention also; gravatar had a data breach, but that was back in 2016 and didnt include passwords afaik

That's a very good point. Security of the site could well be compromised. Hence the need for a statement.

And on the Maguire/Ronaldo FPL transfer saga, have been saying for years, PL player involvement is a massive conflict of interest.

If it's allowed to continue, I would not be surprised to see headline news one day about something realted to a FPL/PL player relationship.

Cite betting/gambling regulations as an example.

Exactly what I'm eluding to and have been for seasons.

Players earn so much money, some completely lose sight of reality, which results in crazy behaviour.

We should not be surprised if a player one day 'throws' a match in order to win an FPL H2H with a mate.

All it needs is a side bet on their H2H for 100k and it could happen. Or even just for the 'giggles'

Potential to still influence the outcome of a game - see above - get a player in the opposition sent off, to win a H2H/side bet etc

And anyway, it's not an equal playing field for them.

They shouldn't be permitted to play, period

            Not just players, but people.

John Terry once said he bet because he was bored and wanted ways to create excitement in his life.

I think he did some other things to alleviate that boredom, if I remember correctly 😉

Despite record participants (partly due to player multi-accounts chasing weekly prizes, squad value etc), I think FPL in its current format might be close to running its course.

no one is hacking the fpl website if they have the password to your account, but how do they delete teams? Correct me if im wrong but I didnt think there was a way to delete teams. And they are certainly using a script for transfers, so maybe they are hacking it.

        Someone can answer that

You can delete your team from here https://users.premierleague.com/accounts/manage/

Boris Johnson has asked parliament if they can postpone the next cabinet meeting due to Covid.
The Speaker in the house reluctantly said yes due to Covid, partying and incompetence leaving them without sufficient wine tasters..

      Instant callback...nice. It's narratively satisfying.

Unfortunately money talks. Game will go ahead and Ramsdale will do a Butland to piss off his sellers. Kane's the one missing the PK, of course. Just how FPL works.

Damn, nearly bought Butland for Ramsdale (blank) in GW20 when I read everywhere that my other keeper, Guaita, was out with covid. In the end, I decided to become a sheep and bought DDG (BUR) instead, only for DDG to concede a goal and left Guaita's CS on bench. Of only I was brave enough to go Palace keeper combo.

    Well, captain hindsight and everything.
