In the opening match of Double Gameweek 22, Brighton and Hove Albion grabbed a late equaliser to earn a draw against Crystal Palace in a lively M23 derby.

Our Scout Notes article reflects on the key Fantasy Premier League (FPL) talking points from the fixture.

GALLAGHER HITS 100 POINTS

Conor Gallagher’s (£6.1m) opener at the Amex on Friday means that he is the eighth FPL player to hit 100 points this season, following Mohamed Salah (£12.8m), Trent Alexander-Arnold (£8.4m), Joao Cancelo (£7.0m), Jarrod Bowen (£6.7m), Son Heung-min (£10.7m), Bernardo Silva (£7.5m) and Diogo Jota (£8.3m).

The Chelsea loanee has seen his ownership drop to 17.4% after missing successive matches against Norwich City and West Ham United, but now back in the starting XI, netted his seventh Premier League goal of the season against Brighton, with an instinctive strike against the run of play in the second-half.

“Conor Gallagher has got that energy and understands when to get in the box with that timing and he will continue to keep scoring goals for us.” – Patrick Vieira

However, Gallagher’s goal was Palace’s only shot in the box all night, as they once again failed to offer much threat in the final-third.

Despite that, tonight’s 1-1 draw does at least end a run of three away matches without scoring, after failing to find the back of the net against Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and Leeds United.

Patrick Vieira, meanwhile, named six players aged 23 or younger in his starting XI, including Eberechi Eze (£5.9m) – making his first Premier League start of 2021/22 – and the talented Michael Olise (£5.4m), who has been directly involved in five goals as a substitute this season.

In truth, both players failed to make much of an impact, but will surely be handed further opportunities to impress in the coming weeks, with wingers Wilfried Zaha (£6.8m) and Jordan Ayew (£5.8m) both currently representing their countries at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

BUTLAND IMPRESSES

Gallagher on target as Butland impresses: FPL Double Gameweek 22 notes 1

In his pre-match press conference, Patrick Vieira had said that Vicente Guaita (£4.6m) “wasn’t fit enough” to feature against Millwall in the FA Cup last week and would “hopefully” be back against Brighton.

However, the Spaniard only made the bench, with reserve keeper Jack Butland (£4.4m) impressing in his absence and saving a penalty, whilst also drawing plenty of praise from his manager after the full-time whistle.

“Jack Butland was the man of the match. I am delighted for him. He is working hard every single day. He needed a chance and he was at his best today and that allowed us to go home with the point.

He had been training all week. It was a good save in the first half, he came for crosses, he saved the penalty. He showed all his potential. He deserved it for the way he has been working and waiting. I am glad for him.” – Patrick Vieira

HARD TO BEAT BRIGHTON

Gallagher on target as Butland impresses: FPL Double Gameweek 22 notes 5

The Seagulls have lost just four games all season – only the top three have lost fewer – and were much the better side against Palace, but failed to keep a clean sheet despite limiting their opponents to just one shot in the box and 0.47 expected goals (xG).

With Chelsea up next, followed by an away trip to Leicester City and a blank, owners may be looking to move on their assets, though it is worth noting that from Gameweek 25 onwards, they embark on a kind run which includes back-to-back matches against Watford (a), Burnley (h), Aston Villa (h) and Newcastle United (a).

Surprisingly, despite two successive rests, Tariq Lamptey (£4.5m) started on the bench against Palace, with Joel Veltman (£4.2m) preferred at right-back. However, the youngster was heavily involved upon his introduction on 56 minutes, receiving 18 passes in the final third – only Jakub Moder (£4.5m) had more.

After tonight’s draw, Brighton are unbeaten in their last four matches, taking eight points in that time, as many as they managed in their previous 11 top-flight fixtures.

Brighton and Hove Albion XI: Sanchez, Veltman (Welbeck 73), Webster, Burn, Cucurella, Moder, Gross (March 73), Lallana (Lamptey 56), Mac Allister, Trossard, Maupay

Crystal Palace XI: Butland, Ward, Andersen, Guehi, Mitchell, Hughes, Schlupp, Gallagher, Olise (Benteke 81), Eze (Milivojevic 66), Edouard (Mateta 66)

Would be typical of the Premier League to reject Arsenal's postponement after weeks of sketchy postponements. The Liverpool EFL Cup 'false positives' and Leicester's recent approved COVID/AFCON/injuries postponements being the worst.

That little rat Neville ranting about postponements last night makes my piss boil. United sat out for weeks. Tottenham too. Leicester have had THREE postponements in a row.

Yeah. It’s a rubbish league if they reject it. Lack of consistency, poor officials etc

Yeah there’s so much hypocrisy. Teams have been doing it for weeks, Arsenal are only going by the 13 player rule. Remember when we played a weakened side against Brentford on opening day because of Covid cases? Him and his nasty mate Carragher were lapping it up, singing hey Jude after the game with the crowd and saying how Arsenal’s recruitment is rubbish. Bunch of hypocrites.

For me, the only contentious thing about Arsenal request is if the loan deals they did this week is what knowingly took them under the threshold. If they have fewer players available than the rules this season stipulate, then they have every right to request a postponement.

Leicester let Benkovic leave the club this week despite their issues and bemoaning the defensive crisis. To be fair to Arsenal I doubt they expected 3 further players to be missing after the Liverpool game (although Xhaka's suspension shouldn't count IMO).

Couldn't have agreed more with Neville, if you can field a team you should have to play. Applies to everyone.. not a dig at Arsenal at all. Leeds have had basically their entire first team out for weeks and we're still forced to play.

If every player in your squad has covid, then fair enough.. but they don't so get on with it.

Whilst I agree in principle, teams should be made to play, you have to be consistent with that standard.

The Prem have already allowed teams to game the system, they have to be consistent surely?

        1. Kodap
          • 8 Years

Yep, completely agree. That's why I said it's not a specific dig at Arsenal, any team in the league.. if they can field a team should have to. The ONLY circumstance where they should be allowed to request a postponement is if every single player comes down with Covid. Since when were injuries/players going out on loan a good reason to ask for a game to be called off? Ridiculous.

You say Every single player needs to get Covid before it’s postponed ?!

So if the whole Crystal Palace get Covid apart from Benteke alone, they should play the match?! Lol.

            1. Kodap
              • 8 Years
              4 years, 16 days ago

Obviously not, christ.. that was an example of an extreme circumstance. If you've got x amount of players ruled out with covid (whatever number that is would/should be decided by the governing bodies), then you can request for a postponement in extreme circumstances. If Benteke and 4/5 other players had covid but you could still field a team, should you play the game? Yes of course.

It's one rule for one team, and another rule for others at the moment which isn't right. At what point have injuries/loan deals been a part of a game being called off? Never.. get on with it.

Consistency seems key. Changing the way the criteria are applied would be like, I don't know, suddenly adding an extra free hit to the game.

Can’t see it not be postponed.
With previous postponements in mind obviously.
Would be so unfair to Arsenal.
Could see Arsenal being forced to play with 1 midfielder in Lokonga and a bunch of newborns on the bench just for Burnley to postpone their 6-point-game 2 days later without being in a worse state.

If its lots, would make me concerned about fpl security, how else would hackers know the details of top 10k specifically.

Would be different if it was just random teams hacked. To target top 10k teams, indicates more than just random brute force attacks.

The real question is how are they hacking teams. Is it because fpl managers are careless with passwords etc or fpl just isn’t a secure website

I’ve posted about this before, I believe your FPL account is only secure as the privacy of your email address.

If they can get your email, then there’s a reasonable chance you’ve got at least one previous password exposed online (check https://www.haveibeenpwned.com for details of previous breaches).

All the more reason to use a different password on every website and something like Bitwarden or Lastpass to manage the lot

Word of advice, if you do happen to use your fpl password elsewhere too, then you need to change your fpl password asap to something unique. That way if you do get hacked on fpl at least you won't have to worry about them being able to get into your email address and whatnot

No idea but as someone said above, if these hackers are specifically able to target people within 10K then that makes me very suspicious about the fpl website security. If it was totally random accounts you could probably say they probably just chose weak passwords and some loser is spending time to get in

                Sorry that happened to you.
You fit the hackers target profile very well.

Top 10k rank, and you are using at least one other FPL related site (this one), maybe even more.

If you use the same email address to access multiple FPL and another site (even unrelated to FPL), and you use the same, similar or what is considered easy to crack websites, you are already in potential trouble.
This is because any leak elsewhere can give an avenue to hackers.

Your first name and last name is already visible, so if your email address that you are using for FPL is something like firstname. lastname@ or initial(firstname)lastame@, hackers have easy ways to let there bots do the work.

            1. @persecuted_by_mods
                4 years, 16 days ago

2 factor authentication, usually an extra layer of protection like sending you a code to your phone or email

                1. @persecuted_by_mods
                    4 years, 16 days ago

E.g let's say someone guesses or hacks my password on fpl, upon entering it fpl would text my phone a code and the hacker would need to enter that code to proceed. Even with my password he wouldn't be able to do anything

+ I'd upon getting the text realise someone has tried to sign into my account

2FA = Two Factor Authentication. Additional layer of security after password, e.g. passcodes that banks SMS to mobile when logging into current account (it's a pretty crap form of 2FA re security but it's better than just a password).

Two-factor authentification. Essentially every time you log-in, you'll need to have an extra step to log-in after entering your email/username and password, usually a text sent to your phone number or an email sent to your address with a unique, time-sensitive code that you also have to input.

Gave up playing cash mini leagues, packed in the office fun leagues (not fun when you've had a mare) -gave up on following the so-called experts.

having best season ironically despite the chaos. far more patient, ignore price rises and leave transfers to the last minute.

may have a season off it next time to see how that goes.

as is often said, it's just a game.

With a bit of effort and some computer wizardry, surely the top bods at FPL can reverse the transfers (or at least alter the score) and re-instate the teams that were hacked!?
I’d keep it to the people who were obviously hacked (1000 transfers in the space of 2mins people).
I wouldn’t have any objections anyway, I’d rather not finish ahead of these people purely because they were hacked.

*Anyone who’s password is ‘password’ or ‘123456789’ can feck right off though

The only possible way to do it, I imagine, is within the gameweek of the hack, before the next deadline.

That's not always a very long time. Not sure that the FPL Support team is very big, or even has the processed properly ironed out to achieved that (yet).

Otherwise H2Hs, Cups etc are effected & that's tricky to unwind. It unravels all new layers of complexity.

The fact that the FPL site allows to do 1000 transfers in 2 mins.
raises severe questions about the sites security and quality of code.
Simple measures could have blocked this type hack. Noob stuff.

Cr7 told Maguire to remove him from his fpl team. Just superstitious things.

This may be the source of the hack??

                Gravatar:

In October 2020, a security researcher published a technique for scraping large volumes of data from Gravatar, the service for providing globally unique avatars.

167 million names, usernames and MD5 hashes of email addresses used to reference users' avatars were subsequently scraped and distributed within the hacking community. 114 million of the MD5 hashes were cracked and distributed alongside the source hash, thus disclosing the original email address and accompanying data. Following the impacted email addresses being searchable in HIBP, Gravatar release an FAQ detailing the incident.

Compromised data: Email addresses, Names, Usernames

for those that need some advice....
                        1. Never reuse passwords on different sites
                        2. Use 2fa for important sites (sadly fpl doesn't offer this yet)
                        3. Make sure your password is not easy to guess/brute force (https://www.ncsc.gov.uk/blog-post/the-logic-behind-three-random-words) or use a password manager
                        4. Be especially careful with you e-mail login/password as this is used to reset other accounts
                        5. Register your email with https://haveibeenpwned.com/ and you will be notified when your credentials on a site become known.

                    Hi,

Just to be clear on this, Gravatar deny they were hacked which is probably why they didn't send emails out to their users etc. All data that was scraped was already publicly viewable, and no passwords were released.

                    https://en.gravatar.com/support/data-privacy

With that being said, always make sure you use different passwords for different sites!

Ozzy win is as inevitable as climate change - and a Warner duck is akin to somebody remembering to turn off the bathroom light in the fight against climate change. It’s nice, but ultimately futile.

Not sure how transparent clubs have been to the public. Newcastle, potentially, had as few as 3 for one postponement. That was conjecture based on how many were out the previous match and the number of injuries/suspensions picked up in that match. Some twitter sources suggested possibly more positive cases.

I will be a bit annoyed if Arsenal's request to postpone is denied, ended up benching Regulion for Cancelo in the end.

Ronaldo missing out would wrap up the pain.

Calm down Cokey, I was not blaming anyone.

You probably agree that Arsenal would only have made that request if they fit the very clear criteria though, right?

If the League reject, most likely they've done it out of pressure than their rules.

We've seen those quotes from Ralf, they are from the presser. The thing making people question it is Harry Maguire selling Ronaldo for Lukaku at 17:45 yesterday.

Depends on when the final session was that day, ey?!

I'm not optimistic as a result, but no bother, cannot change it.

Nah, just make a 1000 transfers yourself now & claim that you were denied an inevitable maiden FPL victory this year due to hackers…

The Aussies should declare now, just for s**ts and giggles.
I honestly still think they’d be heavy favourites to win the test match
