We round up the key Fantasy Premier League (FPL) talking points from Sunday’s Double Gameweek 25 fixtures.

The graphics below are taken from LiveFPL, Ragabolly’s excellent and ever-expanding website, and our own Premium Members Area.

GOALS, ASSISTS AND BONUS

INJURIES AND BANS

Wout Weghorst (£6.5m) hobbled off after 74 minutes on Sunday, as he appeared to clutch the back of his knee having landed awkwardly.

“I’ll wait and see (on Weghorst). It is a maybe (on others coming back). Charlie (Taylor) we are being gentle with. Vyds (Vydra) and Johann (Gudmundsson) are making progress and so it is a maybe and we are missing important players. Others are still getting properly fit. Maxwel (Cornet) is not properly Premier League fit, he hasn’t been since he’s been here – not truly. I think Wout (Weghorst) is but he’s now got a knock so we will see how that settles down. It is finding that true sharpness but there are still some really good performances.” – Sean Dyche

Diogo Jota (£8.5m), meanwhile, dropped to the bench for Liverpool, with Jurgen Klopp revealing before kick-off that he had suffered a dead-leg in training.

However, the Portuguese appeared after 67 minutes, easing any concerns.

“Jota was due to start, with Sadio (Mane) coming from the bench today but Jota had a dead leg and couldn’t train yesterday. Now he looks fine but we were not sure. We prepared everything with Sadio, knowing he knows what to do.” – Jurgen Klopp

Both Newcastle United full-backs had to be replaced at St James’ Park, with Kieran Trippier (£5.0m) and Javier Manquillo (£3.9m) coming off either side of half-time.

Magpies boss Eddie Howe then later revealed that Trippier – who had passed a late fitness test to feature on Sunday – had gone to hospital to have his injured foot x-rayed.

“Kieran (Trippier) has gone for a scan. We are keeping everything crossed that there is no break.” – Eddie Howe

West Ham United had to make a late change to their starting XI, as defender Kurt Zouma (£5.4m) felt unwell during the warm up, with Issa Diop (£4.3m) starting instead.

“He was ill before the game, he wanted to play, we wanted him to play as well. He was sick during the night, he stayed away from the players and did not eat much. Once he got out he did not think it was possible. We told Issa Diop to be ready. It is a stomach bug, probably something he has eaten.” – David Moyes

At Leicester City, James Justin (£4.9m) came off with an unfortunate hamstring injury, though we are still awaiting an update from Brendan Rodgers.

FPL TALKING POINTS

JOTA BENCHED AS SALAH AND MANE RETURN

After his Gameweek 24 brace, Diogo Jota was surprisingly benched at Turf Moor on Sunday, with Mohamed Salah (£12.9m) and Sadio Mane (£11.7m) starting alongside Roberto Firmino (£8.9m) up front.

However, as revealed earlier, the Portuguese had been in line to start ahead of Mane, but going forward, we should probably prepare ourselves for a bit more rotation.

For now, it does feel like Jota is first-choice for the number nine role, though there is more competition in the wide areas now following the arrival of Luis Diaz (£8.0m) from Porto, as broken down below.

Above: Liverpool’s forward options via WhoScored, with the majority of Diogo Jota’s Premier League appearances arriving through the middle this season

Elsewhere, Fabinho’s (£5.4m) winner means that he has now scored three goals in his last four Premier League appearances, though it is worth noting that across the season so far, the holding midfielder has managed just 10 shots in the box.

Salah, meanwhile, had a quieter than usual afternoon, registering just one attempt on goal.

BURNLEY PERFORMANCE OFFERS ENCOURAGEMENT

Following today’s defeat, Burnley have now gone 11 Premier League matches without a win, scoring just three goals in their past nine.

However, their performance on Sunday offered encouragement, especially in the first-half, as they tested Alisson (£6.0m) several times.

Now, ahead of back-to-back Double Gameweeks, which sees the Clarets take on Brighton and Hove Albion (a) and Tottenham Hotspur (h), followed by Crystal Palace (a) and Leicester City (h), there will be plenty of interest in their assets.

If Weghorst is ruled out for a period, Maxwel Cornet (£5.9m) is surely the best attacking option, whilst at the back, Nick Pope (£5.4m) and James Tarkowski (£4.9m) look like the leading candidates for a place in our squads.

“Frustrating one from our point of view. We were very good throughout, particularly first half. That was a good performance against top class opposition but we didn’t take our chances. I was pleased with the performance today. Sometimes you have to forget where you are in the table because that performance will lead to more.

We are getting players fit. Wout (Weghorst) has done amazingly with the amount of miles he has got in. Dwight McNeil came on and affected the game. They had fewer chances against us than they had previously. Ashley Barnes should not have been out there but we are stretched. They are all trying to get fit and we are just hopeful they do get fit.

You need to get rewards when you play like this and that is the bit that is missing. We have got to start doing that. The mentality was right today and the performance was right.” – Sean Dyche

IN-FORM NEWCASTLE

The Eddie Howe revolution is gathering speed, as Newcastle United collected their third victory in a row on Sunday. As a result, they are now five unbeaten in the league, with their only home league defeat under Howe arriving against Manchester City back in Gameweek 18.

For Trippier, it’s now two goals in two matches, though he did fail to register any clean sheet points due to his early withdrawal on 48 minutes. Despite that, he is still averaging an impressive six points per match across his four Premier League appearances so far.

As for Aston Villa, it was a poor showing from Steven Gerrard’s troops, with Ollie Watkins (£7.7m) seeing his goal ruled out for offside by VAR. However, they still have some good fixtures coming up, and importantly, a confirmed match in Gameweek 30 against Arsenal.

JIMENEZ ENTERS FPL CONVERSATION

After today’s opener, differential Raul Jimenez (£7.4m) has now scored two goals in his last three Premier League appearances, ahead of an appealing run of fixtures for Wolverhampton Wanderers which includes a double-header in Gameweek 26.

Notably, they have now won four successive away matches in the Premier League, whilst no side has conceded fewer goals than their eight on their travels.

Elsewhere, Tottenham Hotspur have now lost five of their last eight matches in all competitions, having been defeated just once in their first 11 games under Antonio Conte.

Both wing-backs – Sergio Reguilon (£5.4m) and Emerson Royal (£4.9m) – were rotated on Sunday, though the formers replacement Ryan Sessegnon (£4.3m) lasted just 27 minutes, as Conte switched to a 4-2-3-1 formation in an attempt to get back into the game.

BRILLIANT BOWEN
Man Utd’s defence, Gray and Cornet’s injuries, Bowen’s form: The FPL lessons from Gameweek 24 6

It’s now five goals in as many games for Jarrod Bowen (£7.0m), who following today’s double-digit haul, has moved up to third in the FPL player standings on 148 points for the season, only trailing Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold (£8.5m)

The winger has been directly involved in 21 Premier League goals (including Fantasy assists) so far this season, and despite the fact that West Ham United don’t have any Double Gameweeks in the offing, his form suggests he is worth keeping hold of.

However, that isn’t the case for Michail Antonio (£7.8m), who following today’s blank, has now managed just two goals since Gameweek 10.

For their opponents, Leicester City, they conceded another goal from a corner today, with Wolves and Burnley up next for the Foxes.

It's not called World Series. It's a Super Bowl Championship. If you're aspiring to play the sport around the world at the highest level, then the Lombardi trophy is your grail.

My bad.. I didn't mean tournament name is exact term 'world series'.
I'm only against the national level championship winners being called as world champions.

I haven't seen anyone calling the HUNDRED cricket champions as world champions, even though this is the only tournament that plays this format. That would be awkward..

So I think my team is set up to avoid FH27, but probably needs a 28WC.

Given that, any better moves than this?

    26: Keane -> TIERNEY (bench a SGWer)
27: Tierney & Dennis -> MEE & WEGHORST (if fit)
    28: WC

    RAMSDALE
    TRENT, Cancelo, Lamptey
    SALAH(TC), JOTA, Bowen, Bruno
    KING, DENNIS, Antonio

    Ddg, BROWNHILL, Dawson, Keane

I’d forget Tierney as you are dumping in 27 anyway. Just save the transfers for other dgw players.

Cheers. Yeah it seems a bit of a waste, but the ARS DGW is plum and I think Tierney has a higher ceiling than the BUR boys. NEW this week for Antonio should be decent also.

        So it’s basically:

        A) Tierney (BRE/WOL) & Antonio (NEW)
        B) Tark (bha/TOT) & Jimenez (LEI/ars)

So one less fixture for A), but much better fixtures imo.

Am so so tempted by Trent.

My plan all along was to stay off Mo after AFCON and hope that he came back a little flat and didn't score at the same level as before he left. Big reverse differential potential in that.

The cushy DGW that Liverpool has been given however means I've been forced to adjust and will be bringing him in this week as protection more than anything.

But very open to putting the captaincy away from him to still be on a differential path.

Trent outscored Mo in most GW's prior to AFCON. And Robbo is in a similar run of form now.

I'm probably going with the BB as opposed to the TC, so that quite likely makes the captain choice a season-defining one as no doubt there will be a couple of million TC's on Mo.

Yeah I can't work out if Salah as 26 captain is me being guided by EO/fear and not necessarily the best choice (TAA).

So far, Ronaldo has scored the same as Salah since AFCON. Which is a pretty useless measure, because it's only 2 games. But DGW26 is also only 2 games.

It's definitely fear for me.........in the past I've noticed that lots of players come back from Africa quite flat if they have been involved in at least 3 or 4 games. Mo qualifies in that regard, and last night is a small sample towards perhaps proving the theory. The CL game will be interesting to watch.

If he goes on a run of scoring 2-5 points most weeks, whilst carrying a massive captaincy load each time, and you've stayed off him whilst spreading the extra cash wisely then it is OR rocket fuel.

But not without its risks! (Hence bringing him in to offset his "single" points against an avalanche of triples by way of part-mitigation).

For those of you who do not have the privilege of watching most games, I have tried to put an FPL slant in a few words on games played this weekend:
ManU 1 Soton 1: “Same old” decent United performance in the 1st half, Pogba in particular, degenerating into a tired game devoid of ideas. Ron, time to hang your boots up and let Bruno get more freedom: Sancho looks better recently. Broja is a gem and will get goals; Romeo and KWP ran the midfield second half; Livra could struggle to get his place back due to a great Perraud/W Peters performance; Maguire awful. MOTM: Romeo/Ellounousi/Perraud.

Everton 3 Leeds 0: A good all round performance backed by the crowd at Goodison. I never thought I would say well played Iwobi. Kenny kept Raphina quiet resulting in a half time substitution. Allan and Donny ran the midfield. Gordon as good a low priced asset as Ramsey for home games only maybe. Rodrigo hit the bar from 2 x 25 yarders; DCL not quite ready yet. Coleman more like his old self; Richarlison looked good too; Leeds hustled out of the game; MOTM: Kenny/Donny/Iwobi.

Norwich 0 Citeh 4: The first half hour Norwich as good as Citeh IMO; Once the game settled only one team in it; Foden making space rather than getting chances. Sterling flattered by the hat trick but always dangerous; The Citeh line up spells beware going forward; Norwich have improved I must say; Williams looking like he should. Puki played well considering. Dias likely to get the most center back minutes; with doubles on offer it might be wise to discard Citeh assets for the run in. MOTM: Sterling/Gundo

Watford 0 Brighton 2: I only watched the highlights but bye bye Watford assets IMO (maybe after the upcoming double): Maupay great goal, flattering again; Brighton cleanie a long time coming but expected. Sarr could brighten things up going forward and seems to work well with Dennis, giving Watford a lift in the second half. Macalister and Bissouma came on and that was the end of that. MOTM: Moder/Webster

Brentford 0 Palace 0: It is time Palace learnt how to play away from home and stop rotating forwards. I watched a hard fought game where defensive performances were at the fore. Pinnock and Janssen were good for Brentford; Anderson and Guehi for Palace. Guaita pulled off a worldie and Eduard was totally ineffective. I won’t be rushing for either side’s assets for the run in. Where was Olise! MOTM: Pinnock just about IMO.

MY WATCHLIST DAY 1: Gordon Richarlison Williams Dunk Sancho KWP Broja Sarr Sterling Rodrigo STAY AWAYS: Ronaldo Bruno Livra DCL Maguire Raphina King Eduard.

Burnley 0 Pool 1: A mix of poor conditions, poor passing, and a ridiculously high defensive line by Pool made Burnley look better than them, despite the score line. Weghorst was a pain for Pool but his finishing was poor. Burnley’s long ball tactics unsettled Pool and crisp one touch football went out the window. Lennon had a fair game but Alisson was the savior: Roberts could be a DGW enabler: The poorest game of the weekend so far. MOTM: Alisson.

Spurs 0 Wolves 2: I did not get to see the whole game but Lloris had a stinker from what I saw. He got save points but they should have been a minus for most of them: Spurs no clue how to deal with Wolves press; creativity lacking for Spurs big guns.

Newcastle 1 Villa 0: Only 2 saves recorded all game tell you a story; a fortunate Trippier free kick being the difference. ASM can be a joy to watch but was not going to create FPL points. The defenders were the better players generally. Luiz and McGinn both went missing in the poorest performance I have seen from Villa since Gerard took over. Newcastle lost both full backs through injury; Newcastle edged the game IMO. MOTM: Burn.

Leicester 2 Hammers 2: Bowen did well to open the scoring with Leicester not having a clue how to cover a long ball. Leicester were good going forward and got an equalizer just before the break. Antonio was involved in the game a lot more than he has recently. Barnes started to perform second half and made Coufal’s life difficult, eventually resulting in a cross assist for Ricardo: Tielemans looks like he has got over his sulk: So typical Leicester giving away a set piece goal at the death: MOTM: Barnes

MY WATCHLIST DAY 2: Roberts Maddison ASM Sa Kilman Semedo (Trippier injured) Burn Barnes AVOID: Digne Luiz Watkins (Weghorst injured) All Spurs defenders, Lloris Cresswell Coufal.
I hope you got something from the summary; Day 1 much better than day 2 IMHO. Excuse the grammar

Can anyone enlighten me as to why Tarkowski is being transferred in a lot more than Mee?
    Mee cheaper too.

Tark has better underlying stats, I think. More goal threat.

Just hope with Tark the goal comes in the next 4, rather than after 6-8 like with Dawson and Keane.

What are the chances of Liverpool having another DGW this season?

100%. They have GW27 game vs Arsenal to be rescheduled. Plus any future clashes with the FA Cup ties

May be worth considering saving the TC for a week without UCL in that case

Yeah, that's reason I asked - Salah didn't impress me yesterday, plus Klopp has enough depth to rest even the Egyptian Master...

Salah definitely crossed paths with a Zambian while at AFCON hahaha

Certainly, plus those fixtures seem almost too good to be true. Wouldn’t be at all surprised if he doesn’t start one of the two. Might still captain him to cover my bases and save my TC for later on or may go risky with TAA captain presuming he’ll likely start both and is due a nice score

hi all thoughts on laporte -> saiss?
kinda worried abt double city def with pep roulette + no more dgw for city, and wolves having decent fixtures for the run-in

I think Pep Roulette won't happen for a few GWs yet - last season it wasn't until the league wrapped up and they focussed on the cup.

Until then, Wolves have one more game than Man City. Not sure Saiss with a game in hand beats Laporte over the short or medium term.

Even in the long-run, 2 defenders from the best team around if you have good 4th/5th defender options isn't the worst IMO. But can understand moving later.

Agreed, I think having Laporte and a solid say 4.4 defender to back him up beats out Saiss

Agree. Until the title is wrapped up I feel there are a few at City who will start 5 games in every 6. After that all bets are off.

A hard one. Laporte will get more points per game maybe but Sais will have more games.

Can you keep Laporte and get Art Nouri instead of Saiss? Gives you Wolves and a good player without losing a diamond.

Got to stick with them for one more week due to fixtures, will probably get rid of all 3 idiots in GW27

Help me to pick 2 to start

    A. King (avl, CRY)
    B. Antonio (NEW)
    C. Cancelo (TOT)
    D. Ramsey (WAT)
    E. Wood (whu)

C definitely IMO, 2nd choice trickier...

I'd probably go A because extra game, and the futile hope that the underlying stats finally translates to actual pts.

      C & D - easy choice.

King & Antonio are colder than a penguins beer. And Wood is infrequently any good.

Cancelo is one of the best FPL players in the comp and Ramsey quite possibly will be before too long and is playing a soft opponent at home.
