No sooner has the dust settled on the ‘Wildcard v Triple Captain’ discussion of Gameweek 26 than another chip strategy debate comes along.

Whether or not to Free Hit in Gameweek 27 has been dominating the talk in our comments section over the last week, not to mention the constantly evolving longer-term thoughts on the other FPL chips left in our lockers.

With that in mind, we’ll bring you a cherry-picked selection of the week’s contributions from our site visitors in this article.

“Free Hit in 27 is an easy move with triple Liverpool and Arsenal, no back-up keeper, Antonio/Watkins out of form and no Spurs.

“I’m flexible with the Wildcard, can probably get away with -4 and save in Gameweek 28 then will assess team for Gameweek 29. Maybe Wildcard in Gameweek 31.

“Will wait for fixture updates before deciding on Free Hit 2 and the Bench Boost” – HMC

“I’ve run through the rest of the season over and over again, and I think I’m gonna Free Hit. Gameweek 33 isn’t likely to be as big an issue as it seems from afar (unknown doesn’t always mean horrible), and I’ll have most of the players I’d want on a Free Hit anyway by then. There’s something too strong about the Free Hit in Gameweek 27 template. Scarily high chance of losing rank by going in with Jarrod Bowen, triple Wolves and triple Villa for me, even though I have 11 players. Bench Boost in Gameweeks 28 or 36 are still possible, but I like the latter more” – Ze Austin

“Anyone with one Free Hit left and considering using it in Gameweek 27, have a look at the current four games in Gameweek 30 and ask yourself how many outfield players you would likely have, and out of the players you would transfer in for Gameweek 30, would you keep them moving forwards.” – tommo-uk-

“If there are only three or four games going ahead [in Gameweek 30] without any of the top teams playing, I think fielding a team of seven or eight is ok then. It is quite easy to get to that number with a few Arsenal, Wolves and Villa assets and a couple of others.” XABI 15

“Team value and captaincy will be my differentials in Gameweek 27. So while everyone else has Sterling + Broja, I can afford Sancho + Foden so I’ll go there and hope it works out.

“United at home against Watford by all accounts should mean lots of points. Captaincy as well I think should be on a single Gameweek player. It’s like people haven’t learned the Joshua King/Emmanuel Dennis lesson. Wout Weghorst plays for Burnley and had one shot against Brighton. I don’t think he should be given the captaincy even with the extra game. But he has a high floor because of his two games so I’ll still include him.

“Son Heung-min, Riyad Mahrez, Bruno Fernandes all in my thinking for captain. Will mull it over. But currently on Mahrez with Son vice-captain.” – Camzy

“I have a niggling doubt in my mind that this Harry Kane performance [v Man City] was like Fernando Torres in the 2010/11 season after trying to get a move to Chelsea and having Liverpool block it. He was poor all season until he played Chelsea and was suddenly back to his old self and scored a bracem before going back to poor performances until he left that January. Then his move showed it was his injury more so that caused the drastic downturn in his form.

“Still, it’s giving me pause to at least not captain him, will still pick him on Free Hit and it would be unwise to not go for him looking at Leeds; form, injuries and them having played United and Liverpool in the week before they play Spurs.

“As for differentials, the only spots are the fourth midfielder – a second city attacker or Jadon Sancho/James Ward-Prowse – or third defender, where someone could come in. The rest of the Free Hit seems to pick itself imo.” – ZimZalabim

“I personally feel Free Hits are best used in blanks. You can carry all the best players through without damaging your team long-term. So Gameweek 27 & Gameweek 30 were my targets.

“As long as you have all the key players, surprise Double Gameweeks shouldn’t require a Free Hit. A good player with a single Gameweek can still outscore a poor player with a double Gameweek, so using a Free Hit to load up on crap doublers seems damp. I just don’t see the value of a Free hit in a Double Gameweek compared to a blank.” – G B

“I honestly find it a bit baffling that so many are using their Free Hit this Gameweek, even when they have perfectly viable teams. Liverpool and Arsenal are not playing, Spurs have been inconsistent at best, City are away to Jekyll-and-Hyde Everton, and the only Double Gameweek team is Burnley, who may not even warrant a triple-up. Sure, there’s the United fixture, but even that could turn out to be a letdown.” – Reinhold

“The Free Hit in Gameweek 27 template looks strong on paper but it doesn’t mean it would easily go big. Palace and Leicester can always bust Burnley clean sheets, Watford can easily frustrate United, Pep roulette can easily disappoint, and Norwich are no longer the whipping boys, so it’s no guarantee that Southampton will get it easy. I’m probably talking bulls**t but I am not going into Gameweek 27 with fear by not using my Free Hit” – NABIL – FPL otai

Fantasy Football Fix says that my Free Hit team would get 64 points and my normal team 38. Would you do the Free Hit? I have all my chips (2 x Free Hit and 1 x Wildcard).

    Thank you!

    Multiple hits again, everyone?

I had a fairly good DGW26 with 143(-8), wish I went a bit more aggressive by taking another hit for say Pope for DDG/Guaita, Zaha/Gallagher for Bowen or Weghorst for Wood. But it's all in the past now, now we move to the tricky blank/double GW27.

I have only one FH left and I plan to keep it as long as possible. I am going into 27 with -12 hit because I'm looking at each hit in isolation and not at them collectively. Plus I really think I'm going to hold onto the new guys at least for medium term. Here are my reasonings for each transfer:

    1. Salah to Son - pretty straightforward. Salah no fixture, Son will be highly owned this week. Will get back the King for Bruno next week. I really want Son for the run in.

    2. King to Weghorst - kinda forced transfer. King's been pants (and possibly injured?), while Weggy is the highest transferred in striker. Safe move btw since he has a double, easy bench for dgw28 and great fixture (bre) in dgw29.

    3. Bowen to JWP - This is one for the medium/long term. JWP got nice fixtures starting this week, and a double next week, plus I got no other Soton player. Bowen, otoh, is benchable in 28 and 29 (plus WHU might not play in 30) so why not get rid now for another player with better potential. I can always get Bowen back with WC31 for the green fixtures if I want to.

    4. Saka to Mahrez - well this one is highly influenced by FOMO lol. But I can afford him, surely Pep can't afford to bench him again, and City always bounce back after a defeat. Can always get back Saka in 28 or 29, plus Martinelli or ESR (if fit) could be better value.

I'm fully prepared for a red arrow, but it's all about challenging the FH template team this week, plus I'm setting up my team for the future while keeping my FH, WC and BB for the run in. Wish me luck!

I don't think 3 is worth a hit, and 2 on the borderline. But, its your call mate.

Yeah pretty mad to lose Bowen for a hit, but JWP certainly has more points potential of compare their fixtures for the next 4,5 GWs. One I'm gambling with

      You know what recent times have taught us;

      1) Wolves do concede
      2) Norwich aren't push overs anymore

I'd do the move next week.

Yeah might backfire really hard. Nonetheless I'd feel safer going into 27 with at least one Soton, and like your situation, it's a transfer waiting to happen.

Who is the cheapest forward in the game, who will play on GW27 and then go straight to the third bench? I had Idah for that role, but he got injured. Need to take him out for a hit. 🙁

(I already have Broja and Dennis -- yes, I am going cheap at the forwards).

Thanks, that's a great suggestion, but he is too expensive for my taste. Not willing to spend 6.5m for a third bench position. I might have to buy JRod instead.

You can rotate your strikers for next few GWs. Weggy got double and great fixture in 29. Can't find another reliable cheap forward other than those you already had

This is very true. Probably, the structure of my team is not correct, should have had at least one mid-priced forward in the team.

With the current structure, I can't afford anyone greater than 6.0m. I think Pukki is my best bet for reliable 90 mins.

Non free hit team with a -4.

    DDG
    Varane Tarkowski Cancelo
    Son Bowen Foden Bilva
    Broja Wehorst Dennis

    Rams* Lamptey Saka* TAA*

Take another -4 to get Kane or keep Dennis vs double United defence?

Nah, I'd say the extra -4 to get Kane is definitely worth it. Watford have been inconsistent and to be able to move to Kane in one move from Dennis will serve you well long term as well.

          There's 3 players for 2 spots.

          Livra RB

          Perraud LB

          KWP can play both positions

All three have been playing really well. Goodness knows who will be first choice or if we'll see rotation now.

    DDG (Bach)
    Cancelo Livra Amartey (Robbo, TAA)
    Foden Bowen Maddi (Salah, Saka)
    Weghorst King* Dennis

    1FT, £2.6ITB

    A) Saka to Coutinho/Ramsey/JWP/Kulusevski
    B) King to Broja/Hwang/Watkins
    C) Sell both Saka & King (-4)
    D) Keep Saka for DGW29.
    E) Find a way to get Son/Kane

If you have 2 free hits I would use one- which I guess is E…..

If only 1 going to probably be a tough week but keep Saka for 29, get Broja for King and get Mee in defence for Amartey

    Captain:
    A) Mahrez
    B) Ronaldo
    C) Weghorst

I'm swaying towards Mahrez but I've had him for a while and he's usually returned for me so I'd put money on him blanking the first time I stick the armband on him.

Do you really think of captaining Ronaldo or Weghorst when you have Mahrez in the team?

Weghorst just because he has double the chance of returns. Ronaldo plays Watford and they are awful. But yea, Mahrez is my first choice.

    Hi guys,

Not playing FH, so planning for the next 3 weeks.

With BUR fixtures in 28 and beyond being pants, and Livra not nailed, is KWP the best budget defender for the next 3 weeks?

Not sure KWP is 100% nailed either - small chance it could be Livra RB and Perraud LB?

I'd probably avoid the Saints fullback situation atm and go Bedna or Digne/Saiss

I have RAT, not keen on double Wolves. I'm not exactly blown away by Villa either tbf... And I have Coutinho waiting to live up to the promise...

I'll wait for the pressers on Saints so..

        Thanks mate.

How nailed is Laporte and what are Pieters chances of starting?

Laporte is as nailed on as a French door.

Laporte is as nailed as they come in a pep team. Pieters is less nailed but Burnley are on a roll with 2 clean sheets, I cannot see a rush to change at the back.

Would you Free Hit this team?

I have nine game week players, but not good ones:

    de Gea,
    Cancelo, Davies,
    Bowen, Fernandez, Ramsey,
    Jimenez, Dennis and Antonio.

I still have all my chips (wildcard and two free hits).

    Thanks!

I think I would. Not keen on Watford, Antonio this week and not many options at that price to use FT's with so I would lean towards yes.

FH...not a good team for next week. Unless you have only 1 FH left, then think about it a bit.

Everyone who chose Russia as their country in FPL to get kicked from the game. That would end the invasion immediately.

My wildcard look good few weeks ago. It Digne . Coutinho seem to be flat , Edoaurd not playing coady all of a sudden not keeping clean sheets nor is ramsdale .
Edoaurd to weghorst seems a legit transfer this week though .

    Still undecided...FH or no FH?

I feel getting rid of Gray and King makes most sense but small budget for replacements hence better off playing one of my 2 reamining FH's?

    DDG
    Cancelo -- Saiss -- Livramento -- Lamptey
    Fernandes -- Bowen
    Dennis -- Antonio

    Ramsdale -- TAA -- Saka -- Salah -- Gray* -- King* [1FT + 1.3m ITB]

antonio to weghorst looks an easy move, given antonio faces liverpool in 28
king to broja as well when saints have 28 double
that might give you extra money to upgrade gray even for a hit

In the last 6 matches Burnley conceded 2 goals from 7.3 xG conceded
In the period before this (17 games) Burnley conceded 27 goals from 25.9 xG conceded
    Crazy outperformance!

keep or sell Bowen on FH?
non FH teams will keep him and could do well but seems like a good time to try something else given they face Wolves

      Tough one
He's basically in no FH teams but it does feel like he is the one that could punish and is the main upside for non-FH teams
Wolves have conceded in 4 of their last 5 games and Bowen has something like 50% goal involvement for West Ham this season

Considering these guys for my transfers. Anyone else to consider? Trying to target doubles.

    Schar
    Coutinho
    Dubravka
    Willock
    Raphinha
    Weghorst
    Broja/Armstrong/Adams
