Using LiveFPL’s vast array of tools, we look at the squad make-ups and chip usage of the world’s leading Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers.

We will examine the 1,000 names in LiveFPL’s ‘Legendary Managers’ list – the historic cream of the crop, much like our own Hall of Fame – but chiefly those in the top 10k in the current overall rankings.

Between the two groups (where there will of course be some overlap), these are the managers who can offer us a better gauge of FPL ownership and chip strategy, as opposed to the overall figures that are skewed by the growing number of untouched ‘ghost teams’.

There is heaps of useful information beyond overall and top 10k figures on the LiveFPL site, of course, such as ownership stats for different rank tiers.

TOP 10K AND ‘ELITE’ MANAGERS: GAMEWEEK 27 CAPTAINCY

It’s advantage to Harry Kane (£12.2m) captainers after the Spurs striker delivered a double-digit haul against Leeds and the more widely backed Wout Weghorst (£6.6m) blanked – although the Burnley man still has a clash with a leaky Leicester backline to come on Tuesday.

Above: Captaincy stats among the top 1,000 ‘elite’ managers

TOP 10K: CHIP USAGE

There were zero Bench Boost/Triple Captain chips used within the top 10,000 in Gameweek 27, with only a small number of Wildcards being deployed.

Rather, this Gameweek was all about the Free Hit.

Around 45% of the leading FPL bosses activated their first or second Free Hit, with 53.26 the average score after Saturday. That’s a lead of around 14.5 points on those who didn’t play a chip this week, but the outcomes of West Ham v Wolves and Burnley v Leicester will have a big say on the final difference.

Practically zero managers in the top 10k have all five chips in hand, with over half having used two (typically the Triple Captain and the Free Hit).

Almost a third of these bosses have already activated three or more chips.

TOP 10K AND ‘ELITE’ MANAGERS: TEMPLATE SQUAD

The ‘template’ top 10k/elite squad for Gameweek 27 should be taken with a pinch of salt given the number of Free Hits flying about; some of the players above and below will be one-week-only love affairs, such as bench fodder’s very own Daniel Amartey (£3.8m) and the heavy Burnley representation.

OWNERSHIP STATS FOR THE 1,000 ‘LEGENDARY MANAGERS’ IN GAMEWEEK 27
How the world’s leading FPL managers are set up for the Blank + Double Gameweeks

TOP 10K: TEMPLATE FREE HIT SQUAD

The template Free Hit squad for Gameweek 27 has a very familiar look, as it’s the one that has been doing the rounds for most of the week on these pages and elsewhere.

Only the Spurs duo have delivered in attack so far, with Joao Cancelo (£7.1m) and Tino Livramento (£4.3m) doing the business at the back.

TOP 10K: AVERAGE NUMBER OF PLAYERS OWNED PER TEAM FOR GAMEWEEK 28

Last week, the average top 10k manager owned 4.35 players whose teams ‘double’ in Gameweek 28.

This has dropped to 3.53 above but again, the Free Hit data will be skewing the figures, so it’s probably safe to assume that the true number is closer to five when we factor in normal Gameweek 27 transfers being spent on the likes of Armando Broja (£5.5m).

    -Sanchez Foster
    -Cancelo Lowton Coady Tierney Arnold
-Salah, Ramsay, Bowen, Moura , Saka
    -Kane, Jimenez, Broja

    Sanchez -> Sa
    Lowton -> Rudiger
    Bowen - Mount
    Moura - Ward Prowse

I think selling Bowen for a hit seems daft. Otherwise ok i guess, given i dont have any context as to if you have used wildcard etc.

If you have to bench two of Rudiger, Tierney and Coady each week, i think that sounds like bad resource management.

Why double chelsea with only 1 fixture? Dont think burnley away an easy match. Burnley fighting for survival.
I am too planning bb with just 1ft. Bowen to either raphinha, jwp or willock. May go raphinha.

Still 2 games left, but overall FH not looking great.

Admit it, they expect everton to get destroyed by Man City.

Ignore Kane and Son score, as a lot of managers have them for GW 26, no FH needed.

Yeah so far I am on average 2 points behind all the FH teams in my league. They all have triple Burnley and captain weghorst - all of them- but I have 2x wolves and Bowen to go. Might even end up outscored some of them!

Well it took until gameweek 28 but I’m waking up to a classic early drunk transfer -4. Ederson to Sa and Tomiyasu to KWP. Temporarily uninstall the app if you’re going out people!

    Ramsdale
Taa - Robbo - Cancelo - Ait Nouri
    Salah - Son - Coutinho - JWP
    Weg - Broja

    DDG - Bowen - Dalot - Maupay

    Salah, Bruno, Bowen, Saka

-8 to BB sounds counterproductive to me, the -8 will wipe out a large chunk of your gains from using the chip, but if it also allows you to save your WC for later in the season it could be worth it.

Going to see how Jimenez looks today, but after Dennis (TC) and Weghorst (so far) blacks, I will probably play safe with Salah.

    5. Sun Jihai
      • Fantasy Football Scout Member

This is Jimenez's rolling 2 match scores so far through the season:

      Average 6.3
      Max 18
      75th percentile 10

This is Salah's single match scores:

      Average 8.7
      Max 24
      75th 12.3

Hence the difficulty with captaining a DGW player over a top SGW player

      1. Nightcrawler
        • 6 Years

Jiminez is a pretty crap cap pick though cuz he never gets double digit hauls

Which DGW captain is better though? Villa points seem to be spread out with Coutinho blanking in 3 of last 4, Broja looked rubbish on Friday, Raphinha yet to get double digits this season etc. Sa could work I guess.

I don't fancy Salah against WH for Captaincy. Genuinely thinking that Sa or a Wolves def could be the play.

It’s a shame really. I’ve had a good season but started to tail off recently. I’m so busy at work that I only realised I missed this weeks deadline on Saturday. Season is basically over now. Incredible how quickly it can all be snuffed out.

I wouldn't say its over looking at your rank. The gap between the ranks isn't that big. A good differential and playing your 2FH and BB well will give you a good jump again. You're only 45ish points of top 50k

There'll be a lot in the same mindset. If you keep plugging away, you should pull it back. A couple of good weeks can make a big difference.

Setting your team/cap up for next GW, as soon as FPL becomes available, negates some of the damage of missing transfer deadlines later.

Raphinha (c) next week anyone interested. No mega hauls this season but on penos and so unlucky not to get double digits yesterday. Width of a post away from assist and goal. Normally a manger change boosts morale short term.

So far I'm thinking of having him as captain yes. Leicester have the second worst defense in the league for me, and AVL at home isn't such a bad fixture either. Can see him having 2 goals and 1 assist.

As I mentioned above, I may captain Sa who I see as the safest option.

Assuming a reasonable worst case scenario, he concedes in both games but gets some save points so around 10 points give or take.

Best case scenario 2 clean sheets, possibly a bonus point or two.

      Most likely somewhere in between.

Unfortunately I cannot do both so have to pick one. Which move would people prefer?

    A) Bowen/Saka > Coutinho (own Digne and Ramsey)
    B) Weghost > Jimenez (own Sa and Ait Nouri)

Either would be for 1FT. Thanks in advance.

WC this week to plan dgw 28, BB dgw 29 and having 8 players in BGW 30. leaves me with 2 FHs after GW 30 and navigate the rest with FTs

Are you WC this week to have full DGW's for 29? Meaning how many DGW's will you have in 28?

8 dgw players GW 28, 7 dgw players and BB GW 29, and no need to use chips GW 30 with 8 players

Not sure of bench yet and might not BB. Just decided I’ll WC this week and navigate post GW 30 with 2 FHs and FTs. GW 36 is too far away to plan and much could happen in between

              Not sure about monster dgw36.
Liverpool, Man City, ManU, West Ham will have no games pending.
Arsenal outstanding games are against tough opponents.
So only chelsea and an inconsistent leicester have attractive games pending. I think spurs have 1 left too.

WCing this week, but waiting until FA Cup before finalising a strategy. Something like Ole is doing above will be the norm if FA Cup goes as expected (but then when does the FA Cup ever go as expected?)

    Major transfer headache here:

    Current Team:
    De Gea / Ramsdale
    Robbo - TAA - Cancelo - Livramento - Digne
    Maddison, Bowen, Salah, Son, Raphinha
    Edouard - Jimenez - Broja

Still have 1 FH, WC, BB remaining.

    ITB 0.5

    Best GW transfer to make?
    1) Edouard to ASM (injury doubts)
    2) Bowen to Willock / Fraser
    3) Cancelo to Fabian Schar
    4) De Gea to Dubravka

Newcastle have 4 games in 2 GW's, so that's my logic. Could BB in DGW 29 with 8 or 9 DGW's.

Thinking that Wildcarding in GW 31 would be the way to go, since most players will be off the City, United, and Chelsea bandwagons. What do you guys think?

bur LIV wol doesnt look like such an enticing run, even for City. Gets better but would be concerned about rotation due to UCL. Man Utd mostly overpriced & underperforming. Think Chelsea & Leicester would be my main focus, while keeping some Tot/Ars/Wol players

Thinking about it now, the -8 I took this week to do White, Martinelli and Edouard to Mee, Willock and Weghorst has served me quite well. The only issue is I should've capped Kane as initially planned and not put it on Weghorst. It is what it is though. Hope for some returns against Leicester now.

Leeds have now officially "parted company" with Bielsa

They also confirmed that they "will aim to make an announcement on a new appointment tomorrow" with Marsch being the current heavy favourite.

    https://twitter.com/LUFC/status/1497889392018481152?t=HihJ6v-khrynRHEICM_ZiQ&s=19

What's your immediate reaction to this, both from a footballing standpoint and from a FPL focus?

Raphinha is obviously the popular Leeds asset at the moment, does this change your thinking at all on him (appreciate most weren't thinking about him at all!)

Still think Raphinha a great choice either way - almost scored 2 yesterday, double gameweek coming up then Norwich then a guaranteed GW30 fixture if considering avoiding FH

Bielsa's sacking is necessary from the board's POV - Leeds are certs for relegation without a change of course, but it is a real shame that the fairy story is over.
It seems Marsch is coming in - AFAIK his recent track record is mediocre, and I don't think the players who are so thoroughly drilled in a unique playing style can easily and quickly change.

"Certs" - would not say that. Several teams worse than Leeds and now they have a good fixture run with players returning, they will soon rise the table.

its a pity it came to this, i think Bamford's injuries and the loss of Alioski especially where massive blows to them as they are two players tailor made for Bielsa's style
