We round up the key Fantasy Premier League (FPL) talking points of the day in FPL Daily, a series that services weekdays where there is no press conference round-up or Premier League match.

WILSON AND TRIPPIER EDGING CLOSER TO RETURN

Eddie Howe has provided an update on Callum Wilson (£7.2m), Kieran Trippier (£5.0m), Isaac Hayden (£4.5m) and Jamal Lewis (£4.2m) as they all continue to recover from injury.

Speaking at Newcastle United’s warm-weather training camp in Dubai, the head coach said:

“I’d say they’re on schedule from where they were given their respective injuries, but I wouldn’t say necessarily ahead of schedule. They’re both serious injuries, both enough to obviously be operated on and go through a very intense rehab period.

Callum’s (Wilson) injury, you have to be very careful with; that we don’t push him back too quickly and he ends up injuring himself again, because the achilles/calf is a very delicate area of the body and you need to make sure it’s robust enough to withstand heavy load.

Kieran’s (Trippier) is slightly different. (It’s) a bone injury and I think, touch wood, if he can come through the early stages of coming out in his boots and then progressing quite quickly, he’s one we could see back in action hopefully pretty soon.

But with both injuries, I do think we have to be very cautious. We don’t want to re-injure the player.

Jamal’s (Lewis) had a long-standing groin problem and I was really pleased to see him operated on. We hope that that’s fixed his long-standing problem and he will, again, be okay in a relatively short period of time to return to training with us.

And Isaac’s (Hayden) been working after having a serious knee injury – again, one he’d played with for a long period of time. Touch wood, he’ll be back training soon.”

EVANS JOINS NORTHERN IRELAND SQUAD

Jonny Evans (£5.4m) has joined up with the Northern Ireland squad for Friday’s friendly against Luxembourg.

The Leicester City centre-back was not named in Ian Baraclough’s original 25-man squad for the game, but played 25 minutes of his club’s 2-1 Premier League win over Brentford in Gameweek 30 as he continues to recover from his hamstring injury.

“It’s only for the Luxembourg game. To have him in the squad is great. Jonny (Evans) is a leader for us. Brendan (Rodgers) had made me aware a couple of days before that he was back in training probably earlier than what they had expected and would we like to use him in the camp.” – Ian Baraclough

KEITA PULLS OUT OF INTERNATIONAL DUTY

Naby Keita (£5.0m) has pulled out of the Guinea squad for their upcoming friendlies due to a knee injury.

The midfielder featured in Liverpool’s 1-0 FA Cup win over Nottingham Forest on Sunday but was substituted in the second half.

Keita’s withdrawal comes days after manager Jurgen Klopp suggested Trent Alexander-Arnold (£8.5m) will be out for several weeks with a hamstring problem.

With Schmeichel (mun) and Dubravka (new) as my keepers, would you say it is worth spending a transfer now to get in Pope (MCI, EVE) for one of them? Both Schmeichel and Dubravka double in 33, so it's really about the upgrade for this week.
But spending that transfer will mean one less transfer to set up the team for 33

I don't think so personally, could see Pope ending up with nothing or maybe even negative pts against City since they often put a few past Burnley. Schmeichel should at least get you save points against ManUtd

        Yeah, I know.
Was thinking more about the EVE fixture. It feels hard not to see Pope get at least four more points from this fixture run over Schmeichel though:

        Pope: MCI+EVE, nor, whu+SOU, WOL

        Schmeichel: mun, CRY, new+eve, AVL

He probably should but on the basis of recent Burnley performances I wouldn't be too sure, they seemed to have a mini-revival of sorts but since those 2-4 games have been really poor all over the pitch. I don't rate Leicester defensively much so I can't say I'd see much better results there but Schmeichel is in a decent run of form and with Evans, Fofana and Justin back they may tighten up. As you said you'd save the transfer as well which could mean you can focus elsewhere but it depends on what you think is best

I think Kane is the only viable forward at the moment.
Happy i've already played BB - will be Kane, Broja & a 4.5 for me pretty soon until the end of the year. And Broja being first/second bench.

Only 6 forwards averaging 4+ ppg it's really horrible
My plan is FH33 WC34 - Kane + Toney + Gelhardt who is in the rotation or if I have extra cash (unlikely) Mateta 5.2

I'd have guessed Gelhardt too - but Greenwood came on for Bamford when he got hurt the last game.
And I'd rather save the 0.1 myself anyway.

Torn between a few midfielders in wildcard... pick 3 out of these 4:

    A - Saka
    B - Havertz
    C - Kulu
    D - Barnes

    1. RogDog_jimmy
      • 5 Years

      Saka for sure.
I think one of either Havertz/Barnes - mainly due to rotation, rest etc.
So that means Kulu is a yes.

UnlikelY but not impossible at all. You would have to avoid captaining salah/kane most weeks with spectacular punts that your rival does not have.

Players like CR7 Vardy KDB Mahrez Mane Havertz Sancho Bruno Diaz might be good shouts at some point for you.

Leading up to DGW33 which is the best play?

    a) TAA to Lowton, Willock to Sancho, Gunarsson to Dubravka. BB33 with Dubravka, Doherty (BRI), Dennis & Sissoko (BRE)
    b) Sa to Dubravka, Willock to Barnes, Doherty to Lowton

My team structure does not allow a direct swap or a double transfer to buy Kane. How can I fund a move for Kane in this team?

    1FT, 0.5m, 1FH
    Ramsdale
    Alexander-Arnold | Robertson | Cancelo | Ait Nouri
    Salah | Son | Mahrez | Saka | Kulusevski
    Saint-Maximin
    (Foster | Doherty | Broja | Dennis)

I can think of the following over two weeks.
    GW31: Son + Doherty ➝ Gordon + James (-4)
    GW32: Broja + ASM ➝ Kane + 4.5m (-4)

Is there any other easier way for the switch?

0.5 short of that move. But, I can do TAA + Son + Broja ➝ James + Martinelli + Kane over two weeks.
Or, better even, Salah + Son + Broja ➝ KdB + Martinelli + Kane

    2. Anna Lingus

      Son 10.8 -> Barnes 6.5

      ASM -> Kane

      1. banskt
        • 12 Years

Thanks mate. 0.7m short of that move.
I have 0.5 in the bank
        Son (10.7) ➝ Barnes (6.6) | gives 4.1
        Ait Nouri (4.3) ➝ Amartey (3.9) | gives 0.4
        Saint-Maximin (6.8) ➝ 6.8 + 4.1 + 0.4 + 0.5 = 11.8m

But, I could get Martinelli instead of Barnes to fund that move. Sounds good actually, only thing is I have to sell Saint-Maximin, who I think would be great value from now till end of season.

Initial plan was to FH33, WC34, BB36. My squad is in a bad way though and I may need to WC now.

Would BB33 work better (than BB36) if I went into it with 9-10 DGW players plus 5 or 6 single gameweekers with good home ties that week(Liverpool, Chelsea, City, Kane?)

It's still quality over quantity so don't focus too much on how many DGW more who.

I don't like wc now with uncertainty over IB injuries, but we could get concrete updates.
Only reason I would wc in 31 is to get Kane instead of waiting

Each to their own of course

      1. House Frey Wedding Planner

I would've preferred to hold WC until 34. Probably would have sufficed taking a hit in 31, but injuries to Ramsdale and TAA, plus Jimenez suspended, leaves my team looking too weak that even a hit may not fix.

        Ramsdale, Foster
        TAA, Rudiger, Saiss, Doherty, Tierney
        Salah, Saka, Barnes, Kulu, Luiz
        Kane, Jimenez, Watkins

Have also fallen 70 points behind ML rival so am also chasing

      • 12 Years

9-10 DGW players in GW33 would mean your team will have 6-7 players from Brighton, Burnley, Leicester, ManU, Newcastle and Southampton + 3 players from Arsenal. Then you have 5-6 slots left for Liverpool, Chelsea, Man City and Kane.

I would rather prefer to have 3 Liverpool, 3 Man City, Chelsea defender and Kane as the core of my team. That leaves 7 slots for DGW players of GW33. With that structure, BB should work better in 36.

      1. House Frey Wedding Planner
        • 7 Years

If Wildcarding now, my dgw33 players would be both keepers and lower value squad players (2 Burnley, 2 Arsenal, 2-3 Leicester and maybe 1 from Southampton and Newcastle). The premium players will have good single gameweek fixtures.

That said, I do see the extra benefit of holding until 36 to WC where the premium players will have a dgw

Looking ahead to Gw33, I have Raph + Watkins to get rid off. Kane to bring in, probably via Son if I keep Salah.

Don't have strong enough playing bench to BB before WC
Is there a better time to FH than 33?

I fear 37 could be a let down in terms of fixtures and teams at the beach

    1. banskt
      • 12 Years
      3 years, 8 months ago

If you have 3 Liverpool + 3 City + Chelsea defender in your team (which is desirable given their fixtures and the title contention), you will not need a FH in 36. The best time to free hit then is either 33, 37 or 38. GW38 will be mostly like a Hail Mary and I am not very fond of that. That leaves you with 33 and 37. I think 33 is marginally better because of Newcastle and ManU fixtures. Not enough plum fixtures left for 37 in my opinion.

Looks good. Looking at Saiss & Jimmy to Rudiger or James & Weggy myself. Think I'll probs go Rudiger for the security of starts, TBH...

When is best time to use FH if not 33 and 36?

when your team is at its weakest and you can get better team with better or more players with FH than your base team

… but seriously, there aren’t many game weeks left and it’s not rocket science any more

Ten & a half days to the next FPL game. Here's hoping Salah comes back fit and ready to start vs. Watford... 😀 😎

Bit of a quandary. Have the exact money to do B.

    A. TAA and Coutinho to Robertson and Havertz. -4pts
    B Coutinho to Mount.

I think that's a good move. I have Robbo already so am bringing in Havertz and a Chelsea def for TAA and JWP.

You prepared to sell Trent and do without him for the remainder of the season?!

Have all chips remaining apart from TC. Wouldn't be too much of a problem to get back if required.

Thought of this but a cure comes in once the ailment is already in play so certainly fits as preventative but not a cure.

An IV is best retroactively if you have access. If you want to minimize a hangover, and you're planning beforehand, a drink of water with every drink is best. It's science 🙂

Wouldnt mind if Trent is out for long, in desperate need of cash. First time feeling like I have a low TV.

I think I will go with Alexander-Arnold, Robertson, Cancelo, James, Mahrez, de Bruyne and Salah for the run-in instead of buying Kane. Hope the others will score enough to offset the Kane points. Scary!

Thanks, good point. I could do Son&Martinelli > Kulu&Mount. Just really reluctant to drop son as he is a big differential in my mini league

Increasingly considering to BB in 33 rather than 36. Don't really fancy relying on MUN on FH in 33 and I can bring in a Newcastle and Leicester defender for my bench which will allow me to focus funds on the first 11 afterwards. Just then becomes a question of when to FH because my GW36 team should be pretty handy with transfers as well

Might be overthinking, BB is locked in for 36 if you can get close to 15 doubling players

Personally I really like your back line but I’d target some of the deadwood/poorer fixtures - I have similar players I want out like Coutinho and Laca I’d also move on from the Wolves players.
Arsenal have a decent run in with doubles and Chelsea and City have good fixtures too with the obvious rotation risks.

Pretty sure I’m WC’d this week with BB in 36 which just leaves me a FH which will prob be played last min, maybe 33

Cheers man. Agree with all the changes you've suggested. Would you suggest I wc this gw?

No worries. I think I would with prob 4 changes at least to make.

Personally I reckon I will for the same reason plus the danger is I’ll just hold the WC until there’s no point in using it
