We have chosen our best Fantasy Premier League (FPL) players for Gameweek 31 ahead of Saturday’s deadline.

We line up in a 4-4-2 formation and are limited to £83.5m for our first XI.

Our four substitutes, meanwhile, are always picked from the budget/cheaper crop of players, not to serve as bench fodder but to give some alternative options who don’t cost as much as some of the names in our line-up.

GOALKEEPER AND DEFENDERS

The best FPL goalkeepers for a Double Gameweek 26 Free Hit 7

Jordan Pickford (£4.9m) and Nick Pope (£5.4m) were both in the goalkeeper conversation this week: they are third and second respectively for projected points in the upcoming Gameweek. Everton’s league-worst away form gave Pope the edge in our eyes, with the Toffees to come to Turf Moor after the reigning champions hand the England international the opportunity to rack up the save points on Saturday.

With question marks over whether Trent Alexander-Arnold (£8.4m) and Reece James (£6.1m) will be rushed back into Premier League action given the double-headers against Benfica and Real Madrid that await, Andrew Robertson (£7.3m) and Joao Cancelo (£6.9m) are the stand-out premium defenders this week – although it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that one of these two pricy picks gets a benching, with one eye on Tuesday. Third and fourth behind only a certain Egyptian and Alexander-Arnold for FPL returns this season, Robertson and Cancelo will also be up against the two teams who have scored the fewest number of goals in 2022.

A discussion that will not die down any time soon:
    TAA or Robbo?
Those who talk about moving out TAA has been tempered somewhat by Klopp's presser about TAA. Putting that aside, in my view Robbo is as good as Trent. Sure, there is Tsimi in the wings and Trent is Trent. However, I have seen Robbo not only better him on points in the last few months, he looks the part as well. Getting both is dangerous and expensive IMO so add to the points I make below to sway me one way or the other.
    1) They both have a lot of fixtures to play until the season end and either cannot sustain continual games 3 days a week.
    2) Their underlying stats are similar with Robbo coming out on top lately.
    3) There is no real replacement in the Pool side for Trent but there is for Robbo.
    4) Robbo is cheaper and can enable better players to come on with inevitable rotation.
    5) Trent has free kicks but Robbo marauds down the wing overlapping his fellow wingers.
    6) 13.7 spent on both gives Robbo/James compared to Trent and a 5.2, the likes of a mid range Arsenal/Leicester/Spurs asset.
70 Selling TAA costs .5 of your hard earned TV if you want him back.

In the end it boils down to points so will Trent get a significant amount more points than Robbo?

Think robbo will outscore Trent. Robbo In better form and as you mentioned bombs down left wing alot to make up for Trent’s free kicks. Worth pocketing extra cash and spend elsewhere IMO

      1. Eze Really?
        • 11 Years

Outscoring might be a stretch but I think we can expect similar points tallies. I wonder what the bookies offer? (smile)

I actually sold TAA and have VVD. I used the money I made on him to fund Kane in (which helped me alot).

      1. Eze Really?

        A good logical call IMO.

I guess there wont be much in it by the end of season, maybe 5-10pts here and there. So if you can utilise the cash well, Robertson over Trent is a decent alternative.

However, historically we have seen that the Trent-Robertson double-up is a proper rank booster. I would much prefer them in my team than James.

Robertson-Matip is also a decent double up which will atleast cover Trent's CS points.

      1. Eze Really?
        • 11 Years
        3 years, 8 months ago

I like the Robbo Matip call. Everyone will be subject to rotation and the premium defenders will probably play in the harder games. Trent is Trent and I must just get him out of my head! I mention James for the upside but my views are similar to yours.

This question is driving me nuts, I need to sell either Foden or TAA to fund my Kane move. Have had Robbo / Trent since GW26 and it’s done me well but now is it time to move Trent > Matip so I can do Watkins > Kane?

      1. Eze Really?
        • 11 Years
        3 years, 8 months ago

You look at Trent and say a 8 mil plus player with the points he gets is very good. The question is will Kane at 4 mil more get his points and the alter side is a defender 1 to 2 mil cheaper can cover Robbo. No easy answer.

Sorry to keep on at you but what if you were planning on bringing Trent back in on a wildcard in GW34? Surely Kane / Matip can cover Trent’s points till then, especially if he misses today then has champions league, City and Utd.

          1. Eze Really?
            • 11 Years
            3 years, 8 months ago

No problem mate. If you can afford the move it is good. I am WC in GW34 and considering the same but I doubt if I will need him.

    5. bench boost for every gamew…

It boils down to how your team is set up. And you can still get from 5.2 def to James if you want if you say have Raphinha to Martinelli in gw33.
Robertson could get a head start this week, but it is a transfer so you have to factor in those 4 points spent as well.

An easier choice for me having been stupid last week getting Periera in for Trent. (Don't Ask) For me, it is a decision to last to the end of the season. After all I have said above, I am leaning towards Matip and Jota with bench cover, chasing the top 1k. as you say, there are many ways to skin a cat and the chat will go on.

    Morning all. G2G or transfers required? 1FT & 0.5m ITB. Using FH33, WC35 & BB36 at the mo. Cheers

    Ramsdale
    TAA - Lamptey - Rudiger - Doherty
    Foden - Saka - Son - Salah
    Antonio - Lacazette

    (Foster) - Broja - Willock - Livra

I'd personally do Antonio to DCL. Antonio has no doubles remaining and DCL has 3 of them including this week. I know Everton are bad but Antonio's form is horrendous. He's only scored 2 goals in the last 22 weeks.

I couldn't agree more and I'll be happy once he goes but against Everton you think that's his last chance? DcL is awful too

Yeah if you've kept this long then you may as well keep against an atrocious Everton side tbf. Didn't get called up for Jamaica either so it's the most rest he's had in months. Could return to form I guess.

Is Coutinho to Havertz too risky this GW with UCL on the horizon? No hits required.

I considered it, but got scared off. Wouldn't be surprised if he was rested for UCL, they don't have much to play for in league anymore

I went for it. Do believe he will play this week. Next week could be iffy. Hoping for a big differential.

Pretty meh to be honest, all downhill since I missed the chance to activate FH. 7 red in last 8 weeks 😀

Hoping to regain some position in next 8 GWs.

Messed up in No BS league, so had to leave that. Brought Bruno assuming its just Salah we have to avoid 😆

Loads of Kop accounts but with Liverpool you can wait for it to build momentum and its often accurate.

I think Klopp tells the team the day before, so it often leaks.

Used to be leaky central from Anfield and the training ground.

What would you do here? 1FH, WC, FH, BB left, 0.5mil itb

    Ramsdale
    TAA, Ruddier cancelo, Laporte
    Salah, Son, Saka, Raphina
    Weghorst, Maupay

    Subs, Foster, Dennis, Bowen, Williams

There are lots of injury concerns here. Hence me thinking of a WC? what do you think? thanks!
