FPL Gameweek 31 Scout Picks: Three pricy attackers offset by budget buys

We have chosen our best Fantasy Premier League (FPL) players for Gameweek 31 ahead of Saturday’s deadline.

We line up in a 4-4-2 formation and are limited to £83.5m for our first XI.

Our four substitutes, meanwhile, are always picked from the budget/cheaper crop of players, not to serve as bench fodder but to give some alternative options who don’t cost as much as some of the names in our line-up.

GOALKEEPER AND DEFENDERS

The best FPL goalkeepers for a Double Gameweek 26 Free Hit 7

Jordan Pickford (£4.9m) and Nick Pope (£5.4m) were both in the goalkeeper conversation this week: they are third and second respectively for projected points in the upcoming Gameweek. Everton’s league-worst away form gave Pope the edge in our eyes, with the Toffees to come to Turf Moor after the reigning champions hand the England international the opportunity to rack up the save points on Saturday.

With question marks over whether Trent Alexander-Arnold (£8.4m) and Reece James (£6.1m) will be rushed back into Premier League action given the double-headers against Benfica and Real Madrid that await, Andrew Robertson (£7.3m) and Joao Cancelo (£6.9m) are the stand-out premium defenders this week – although it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that one of these two pricy picks gets a benching, with one eye on Tuesday. Third and fourth behind only a certain Egyptian and Alexander-Arnold for FPL returns this season, Robertson and Cancelo will also be up against the two teams who have scored the fewest number of goals in 2022.

      Because he can't score, his manager says he's been found out by people looking at his game and needs to adapt and play for the team and not just in a few 'moments'.

      He may not be picked.

      On the plus side the Southampton forum's say he plays, it's at Leeds so last chance saloon for some.

      Been benched in the last few games. Hasenhuttl made some detailed comments on him at his presser which can be taken as good or bad, for me I took them as a "he needs to work harder and be more adaptable" sort of thing. Also with him only being a loanee I think a lot are thinking he'll stay down the pecking order with maybe Armstrong given time to improve

      With the current structure that's as good as it gets, only thing I'd say is that I'm not sure kdb is worth the additional ££ over someone like Havertz at the expense of a premium defender but I'm sure you've already considered that.

        Yeah, KDB and Barnes works to Mahrez and Havertz for exact money.

        I just like KDB following his international rest and i think having played and with Champions League Mahrez and Havertz are possibles for protection against Burnley and Brentford.

        So will switch up later. Still have FH33 and BB36 or 37 to play too.

      As a TAA owner I'll be definitely looking out for it although I expect lots of bogus leaks too. I'm going to be out this morning though so I may end up missing anything!

    I could end up burning a transfer unless we hear TAA not starting- could do Coutinho to Havertz but will he be rested. Could get Cancelo or James for Saïss if moved Lacazette to Weghorst but Lacazette ticking over points and Cancelo/James may be rested Any moves you would do ? .9 m in bank

      You're in a good spot, if you did the Laca+Saiss moves you still have good bench cover in case of any benchings (which, FWIW, aren't expected by the usual ITKs for both Cancelo and James)

      I'm similar dilemma as need to cover mahrez inevitable benching, have Saiss or Ramsey first sub.
      Every time I bench Ramsey he hauls so I'm scared to move him to second spot. He defo has a higher ceiling.
