Captain Sensible

Who are the best FPL captain options for Double Gameweek 34?

Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers are mainly looking to Chelsea and Liverpool for the Double Gameweek 34 captaincy, and as per usual, the Captain Sensible article is here to highlight which assets have the best chance of hauling.

First, we will assess the fallout of the captain poll, before then analysing the best options, Rate My Team (RMT) and the Premier Fantasy Tools ratings ahead of Saturday’s 11:00 GMT deadline.

THE CAPTAIN POLL

Mason Mount (£7.7m) is the leader of the captain poll in Double Gameweek 34, with 29.7% of total votes from our users at the time of writing.

Mohamed Salah (£13.2m) is in second place, backed by 22.37%, ahead of his home fixture against Merseyside rivals Everton, who happen to have the division’s worst away record.

Kai Havertz (£7.9m) occupies third place with 12.12%, followed by Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.2m) and Reece James (£6.3m), with 8.59% and 4.95% respectively.

CHELSEA OPTIONS

We’ll start with Chelsea, given that they are one of only two teams who play twice in Double Gameweek 34 and their assets dominate the captain poll.

The Blues host West Ham United on Sunday before visiting Manchester United four days later. The fixtures might not seem the easiest on paper, but both opponents aren’t bad teams to be facing from an attacking perspective. The Hammers are without a clean sheet on the road this calendar year and may well have one eye on their upcoming Europa League semi-final, while the Red Devils proved yet again in Gameweek 33 that they are a poor defensive side.

Chelsea’s attacking stats over the last six matches are very encouraging and they’ve scored more goals than any other side in that time, mainly thanks to their 6-0 win at Southampton in Gameweek 32. Across the season, they rank third for actual goals and fourth for expected goals (xG).

That suggests Mason Mount, Kai Havertz and even Timo Werner (£8.6m) are worth considering for captaincy, but which one carries the most potential?

I've been toying with how to get Chelsea assets in and I'd have to sacrifice my spurs assets for hits.. I dont feel comfortable with that because if you take away the Brighton match they were free scoring and hot property?

I'd be free hitting in 36 anyway so I wouldn't be keeping Chelsea long term..

    Not sure it's worth it?

Anyone of similar thinking or am I looking at this wrong?

You'd expect Chelsea to beat West Ham at home, but if the Hammers get 1 in say a 2-1 win.

And it could be v close at Old Trafford.

Chelsea have 3 league and Cup wins away against Manchester United in the last 22 games.

Did that last night. After that display midweek Salah could easily haul against Everton though. Goal and assist at least. Will Mount do that against WHU and mun? Or even start both? Or my other Chelsea attacking option Werner for that matter? Not so sure.

Salah always seems to step up for the biggest games, and derby against feels like one of them. Scored 15 points in the reverse fixture so currently on him.

      Tough call though

Mark made a good observation re Salah, thinks he will come off on 70-80 minutes.

A lot of Salah’s returns are towards the end of a game vs tired legs.

True. But at home to Everton I think he’ll romp. They always look like they have tired legs!

Going Havertz for the fun of it plus he has one extra game over Salah. On fairness captaincy is only 1 extra set of points so not the end of the world if Salah outscores Havertz as I would imagine if he did it wouldn’t be by too many points.

Saying that, I captained Sancho last week instead of Salah and that cost me 16 points. Hoping Havertz is a better choice!

Good luck. I went Werner! Regretting it already.

Not entirely happy with my team and am considering hits

    Dubravka
    TAA, James, Emerson
Salah, Bruno F, Saka, Kulusevski, Barnes
    Werner, Weghorst

    Sa, Broja, Saiss*, Digne* 0.4itb

Anything jump out to you here? Feel like my only option would be to ship Bruno for Mount/Havertz and upgrade Saiss/Digne. Not sure it’s worth a -8 though…

G2G. Not worth any hits in my opinion

I’d go Bruno to Mount in a heartbeat

Definitely tempting. I think I’d go Havertz though for more security of minutes. Just not sure it’s worth a hit and I did buy Bruno for his 4 games not just 2…

Fair play. His form has been awful but you never know. Just take what you can this gameweek then ship.

How's this WC looking? Planning to BB36

    Schmeichel
    TAA Cancelo Alonso Matip
    Salah Son Mount Saka
    Werner Pukki

    Foster KDH Amartey Dennis

On Free hit.. Decided to go with 3 Chelsea, 3 City, 3 Liverpool and 2 United. Can't afford salah with this setup but I'm pretty happy overall since it's just for one week:

    DDG
    TAA Cancelo Laporte Tsimikas
    Sterling Jota Havertz Mount (C)
    Ronaldo Werner

    3.9 Nketiah Collins Dewsbury

Kept a strong bench to cover rotation risks ie Tsimikas and maybe 1 other.

Apart from the obvious salah omission.. is there anything else to change in there?

      I'd start Nketiah over Tsimikas.

Will Diaz start over Jota too?

      Otherwise looks okay.

A single game week keeper may be better too. Just go Guaita and use the cash.

    Current WC Draft (BB36, FH37)

G2G? Or find an extra 0.3m to do Mount -> Havertz?
Currently have 0.6m waiting to get Son next week

    Schmeichel
    TAA | Matip | Cancelo | James
    Salah | Sterling | Mount | Saka
    Werner | Pukki

    Foster | Nketiah | KDH | Davies

Can't see why people here rated chelsea so high. They are hot and cold. Salah at home against weakest defence can run riot
