Sky Fantasy Football has relaunched for 2022/23, so you can head over there now and begin picking your team – or teams plural, as Sky allows you to manage a second XI (and a third from January).

A whopping £50,000 is on offer to the game’s winner next season, with cash prizes of £5,000 and £1,000 dished out to those managers finishing in the other two podium places.

The fourth and fifth-placed managers are awarded games consoles, as are the highest-scoring Fantasy bosses of the month.

HOW DO I PLAY?

Sky Fantasy Football is live: What's new for 2022/23

Just like in Fantasy Premier League, managers select a team of players that will either earn attacking, defensive or bonus points in an attempt to score more than friends, colleagues and/or the rest of the world.

However, this is not a squad-based game: you simply choose a starting XI and do not have a bench.

We have already produced a beginner’s guide which delves deeper into the rules and scoring system – this can be accessed here.

JOIN OUR FFSCOUT MINI-LEAGUE

There are a number of different ways to compete against others in the Sky Sports game, one of which is a Free League.

We have already set up our annual, free-to-enter Fantasy Football Scout mini-league, which you can enter by heading to the ‘Leagues’ tab and clicking ‘Join+’.

The full details are below:

League Name: FFScout
League Pin:
9236658

HOW FFSCOUT MEMBERSHIP CAN HELP

Our Premium Members Area Opta stats can help you identify players who will potentially benefit from the Sky Sports bonus on offer for saves, tackles, passes and shots on target.

Annual subscriptions are available for a discounted £2.49 a month, billed annually.

WHAT’S NEW FOR 2022/23

ONE OVERHAUL

Where FPL bosses effectively have three Wildcards to play due to the advent of unlimited transfers during the winter World Cup, Sky managers are going to have to think more longer-term.

Previously those playing Sky were allowed two Overhauls a season but this has been whittled down to one.

The Overhaul period will begin when the Premier League breaks for the World Cup and it will run until the domestic action resumes on December 26.

50 TRANSFERS

To help with that long-term planning, Sky have upped the free transfer allocation from 40 to 50 this season.

As was the case beforehand, a maximum of five can be used in one Gameweek (which run from Friday to Thursday as usual).

POSITIONAL RECLASSIFICATIONS

Previously Sky was very top-heavy in terms of player choice, with the majority of attacking options – such as Mohamed Salah – classified as forwards.

There’s been a revamp of the player classifications this time around, however, bringing it more in line with FPL.

Now only bona fide strikers like Harry Kane, Jamie Vardy and Erling Haaland are forwards, with Salah, Son Heung-min et al reclassified as midfielders.

NO MAN OF THE MATCH?

Conspicuous by its absence in the scoring section of the rules page was the ‘Man of the Match’ bonus, which has presumedly been scrapped for the new season.

    Didn't realise Mings was 4.5.
Good value on the bench, but how about getting more value on the pitch.
4th defender instead of Neto ?

    Salah Diaz Neto
    Haaland Jesus Wilson

    4 Neco Andreas 4.5

Could Swap Jesus/Wislon to another mid but see Wilson as the best 7.5 pick and Jesus could hit the ground running

"Bored, think I'll give the fixtures another looking over and have a play around with player combinations"...

Over 2hrs later and the bloody tracker is revamped and now I've built a rough transfer/captain guide right up to the World Cup. That got out of hand but one thing that's making me both laugh and shite my pants at the same time is that there are only two gwks of that run of 16 where Salah is in my squad let alone captain. wtf is that all about. Three premium looks almost essential from gwk17 though. Again, wtf.

That's enough FF for a week or so. Good luck.

      A- Cout, Tomi, Jesus - play 3,5,2
      Or
      B- Maddy, Robbo, Greenwood - play 4,5,1

      Mendy, Cab
      Taa, Cancelo, Trippier ( Mings,,,,,,,)
      Diaz, Neto, Bruno, KDB,,,,,,,,,
      Kane,,,,,,,,

      Initial draft:

      Mendy
      TAA-Cancelo-Botman-Tomi
      Salah-L Díaz-Kulu-Neto
      Haaland-Jesus

      Bench:
      Begović-Castagne-Greenwood-Andreas

Probably having Kane in GW1 in place of Haaland. If Chelsea defnc is going to be wk then Mendy will have decent saves or else CS. Castagne and Botman will be rotated. Andreas at Fulham looks decent budget mid, covering Neto.

      Mendy (Forster)

      Diaz - Kulu - Bowen (4.5, 4.5)
      Haaland - Jesus

The colour difficulty reminds me of Lawro's predictions, with practically no thought or effort gone into it.
Liverpool RED because they play United in GW3! Didn't they beat them 9-0 on aggregate last season?!
City have Arsenal away in RED... Arsenal haven't beaten City in PL since 2015. Meanwhile City vs Spurs at home is marked Neutral... despite the fact Spurs have beaten them in 4 of the last 5 in PL.

Tricky - Mitro was so poor last time he came up any option with him in it sends me into emotionally damaging flashbacks as I remember losing hard earned cash persisting with him!

Slim pickings in sub 8.0m mids though.

Probably A but go cheaper on the mid like Neto/Andreas and spend elsewhere

I may be a little hazy on the memory, but didn't Mitrovic keep getting dropped last time the were promoted? Think he started at £6m then, I remember picking him at the beginning.

This feels beautifully balanced, no Kane or Son mind but does have Kulusevski.

Can be played in a few different formations:

      Henderson
      Trent | Cancelo | Perisic | Castagne | N.Williams
      Salah | Kulusevski | Martinelli | Gordon | Pereira
      Haaland | Jesus | Mitrovic

Feel free to steal as I’ll be unlikely to go for it 🙂

I am no expert on Spurs but Richie must be a concern for Kulu minutes? There could be value there but for morons like me i will steer clear for a while. Respect the lack of the Spurs legends in your team! (must have been tough)

Kulu is a left footer on the right who cuts in often, like Son on the other side.
Playing Rich there means changing tactics, I think Rich will be coming on for Kane more and maybe mainly for Europe starts

Either way isn’t he more of a CF/striker than a winger?

Like at Everton it was Gordon and Gray on the wings with Rich striker/second striker.

Tempting to go without salah/son/kdb. The 8-9.5 range in attack has loads of points as does the 5.5-7.5 in defence.
      This i like a lot...

      Pope johnstone
      Taa james perisic justin jonny
      Bowen diaz foden pereira dasilva
      Vardy haaland jesus

      Very strong gk rotation

your 3 premiums is leaving your midfield a little bit skimpy, Solanke is fine to have, but when you add him to your 3 other 6m or below attackers, discounting Andreas, then that's just too much heavy lifting for your 3 big guns

Looks decent but seems the majority are hitting Man City def fairly hard - not having any may hurt.

Not hugely convinced by Raya myself but he's popular in there parts so fair enough!

I'd be tempted to lose Solanke for total fodder and put it towards getting at least 1*8.0m mid as so many at that price point at least one is likely to kill it gw1 and you have no easy path really.

You do get Kane in though which is nice - I've not managed it in any of my drafts and settled for Jesus + £3.5m instead but no Spurs atm does worry me. Haaland Jesus and 4.5m up top though and everywhere else looks much nicer imo unless you are capping Kane GW1 (Salah will carry most armbands I assume).

Looks solid - like the Hendo pick but we do have tricky August fixtures and I can't overlook Neco Williams personally.

I'm leaning to having Maddy in an 8.0m mid slot but it's a lottery and we will likely all jump on whoever kills it GW1.

        Overall I like it though.

My draft has been settled for a few days now. I really don't want to tamper with it. BUT.... Raphinha at Chelsea and Eriksen (if similarly priced) at United could force my hand. That's if Raph does end up at Chelsea, and if I can be convinced Eriksen and Fernandes can play in the same line-up. Two massive talents.

Same situation here, no matter how many times I tinker with it I always come back to this same template team, its just too good:

        Mendy (Caballero)
        TAA Cancelo James Perisic Tomiyasu
        Salah Diaz Rashford (Pereira, DaSilva)
        Haaland Jesus (Greenwood)

At most I've thought about Mendy+Perisic->Raya+Chilwell. For me there are a few rumored transfers that would unsettle this draft. Like you said, Raphinha to Chelsea would be absolute gold at that price. I feel the same about Ronaldo to Chelsea as well, I'd want him with the supply he'll get from Sterling+Chilwell+James+Mount. Likewise, Ronaldo to Chelsea would also make me consider Bruno a heck of a lot more than I currently am, he could be an awesome differential.

My template has 7 (out of the squad of 15) of your template, so it's not THAT template!

            • 10 Years

I'm just going off of % ownership when I say its template! Really what it comes down to with that draft is how underpriced I feel everyone is. I had Mendy at 5.5 (though that was assuming Ederson/Alisson at 6.0), TAA 8.5, Cancelo 7.5, James 6.5, Perisic 6.0, Tomiyasu 5.0, Diaz 9.5, Rashford 8.0, Haaland 12.0, and Jesus 9.5. So being able to fit all of those players into one team is unreal to me, and judging by the ownership percentages its not just me!

I've tinkered with No Mo drafts, triple premium drafts, multiple 8.0 mid drafts, nothing seems to hit value the way this draft is doing for me and I think that's largely behind what I was willing to pay for those players prior to price releases! Ownership was not a factor for me at all, so I'm a little disappointed to see how highly owned these players are. What is your strategy, given that it seems to vary quite a bit from the most selected players?

            1. ★Kuntheman★

              *TAA 8.0, not 8.5. Expected him at 8.0, Cancelo/Robertson at 7.5, VVD at 7, and Dias/Laporte/James/Matip at 6.5

            2. Andy_Social
              • 13 Years

Yeah, same. All my Starting XI are well over 10% owned, plus Andreas. It's only my fodder bench that are differentials.

I've modelled a ton of drafts - 3miums, 3-up-tops, NoMos, the lot. And I'm in the same place as you - my current one is the perfect, optimal draft. Until I change it again this evening, that is 😉

The bulk of my draft is players I picked from before prices were out (an exception being Jesus whom I expected to be dearer, and Andreas of course). Even though I have different individuals to you, I don't think it differs much from the semi-consensus. I'm kinda dismayed to see the masses copying me! 😉

My strategy is basically to go as attacking as I can. I'd say my 5-3-2 has 5 attacking wingbacks, 3 inside forward midfielders and 2 strikers.

It's a curious albeit typically Barca mess. They can only take one of Dembele and Raphinha. Dembele would be a re-signing, equivalent to a free transfer although on higher wages. That would enable them to also go for Bilva. So Raph to Barca is by no means a cert. A final decision could come later today, possibly.

"Word is". Maybe, but 'word is' they're gonna sign every class player in the world. It's their president that puts out these impossible claims. They are still in a mega-financial crisis. They're trying to stiff De Jong by reneging on the 17M they owe him for deferring his wages due to their recent financial crisis. I would take any 'word is' from Barca with a huge pinch of salt.

They are a fookin mess but raphina has refused to talk to other clubs insisting he wants barca and barca are determined to sign him. They still manage to get their targets despite the financial restrictions. Raph to barca is highly likely
