FPL first-draft team reveals: Double Chelsea and Liverpool defence

With Fantasy Premier League (FPL) live for 2022/23, we’ll be welcoming back our stellar team of Pro Pundits and Hall of Famers for the new campaign.

We’ll be hearing from a different writer every day in the aftermath of the FPL relaunch, to get their thoughts on the pricing and to see their initial picks.

Our writers will be providing regular articles and team reveals throughout the new season, with only Premium Members able to access every single one.

Next up is FPL Milanista, who has posted overall ranks of 473rd and 1,547th in the last two FPL seasons.

Fantasy Premier League (FPL) is back for a new season and so is our tinkering. The Premier League champions have signed one of the most prolific talents in world football, Erling Haaland (£11.5m), while runners-up Liverpool have also strengthened their squad and, in my opinion, still offer the best FPL options for our teams. Without further ado, let’s jump into my initial thoughts and first draft for the 2022/23 season.

No one wants Christiano... I guess Utd is stuck with him 😛

If he stays United can wish goodbye to top 4 for another season.

He's not unwanted - Saudi Arabia want him there and will pay him 2 million squid per week.

I think his wages are the stumbling block.

United were the only team prepared to pay him what they are paying him. PSG would love to have him but they can’t afford it.

Ronaldo knew there were few teams on the planet able to pay him what he wanted. He chose United.

I believe the words, bed, made, and lie in it spring readily to mind, I’m afraid.

    F) Sterling

    Choose your order!

I’m struggling for who I would pick 3rd.remember injuries make even more of an impact in the draft game

Maybe after 3 of the premiums.

My second choice draft has just Toney up top with 2x4.5 forwards on the bench. My premiums and captain options are Salah and Son. Recently, all the value has shifted to midfield and defence, so I'm taking that to extreme. (to be fair, my first choice has Haaland!)

No doubt, it’s harder for forwards to amass over 200 points in a season, with no bonus for clean sheets and effective mids often scoring as many goals and often more assists. My current draft has just Jesus.

Going Kane instead, at least for GW1. Can switch to Haaland GW2.

It is Lukaku your right. But I don’t classify Haaland as a Lukaku, I think Haaland is the real deal, and will be a sensation. But I’m going with Son instead.

I'm the other way - risking leaving out Salah and going Kane / Haaland / Jesus - Martinelli / Neto / Foden

It would be a boring game if we all went with the same players. Haaland could become essential and in that case I’d take him in after my WC. He’s definitely going to be nice to watch in the PL. he could break the 30 goal make in his first season, and push Kane to be more prolific.

Jesus + Nunez upfront for me. I've added the 3 top selected defenders which also allows me to field 2 of the £8.0 midfielders alongside Salah. It could change multiple times before next week though

        Current draft:

        Raya - (Balcombe)
        Trent - Laporte - Trippier - Tomiyasu - (Mitchell)
        Salah - Son - Diaz - Martinelli - (Andreas)
        Jesus - Wilson - (Archer)

        0.5 ITB

I quite like the Tripper and palace defender rotation, in GW3 & GW5 Newcastle play (MCI) and (liv) & Palace play (AVL) and (BRE).

Is it worth having Neco Williams at 4m to allow myself an 8 million option in midfield like Diaz or Maddison, or should I go for a cheaper differential in midfield (Sancho Zaha Rashford) to allow myself to upgrade to a defender like Tomiyasu? Struggling to make money elsewhere and I feel like Tomiyasu is a steal at his price

          Definitely worth it!

He’s great value at £4.0m. Forest haven’t bought him to sit on the bench and they were very good defensively last season in the Championship.

Response from Fpl support has been shocking to say the least.

Feel if your not a content creator or have an affiliation with them you just get fobbed off..

        B Ederson & Tomiyasu

        Thanks

Prefer B myself but to be honest I'm not sure there's a whole lot of value in the 5.5m keepers from the start with essentially two wildcards before gwk17. Post gwk17, sure, great picks I think.

Do you reckon Sterling can be a viable captain choice on a consistent basis now? He was excellent a few years back when nailed on at City, fond memories of that opening day hat trick vs West Ham.

you would want him on pens - which he probably won't be, and will still be in some rotation I would think. I'd say good differentiator if you can pick the weeks, but not consistent forever cap.

Im thinking of something similar, with this transfer: Rashford + Neto --> Martinelli + Gordon in gw3.
This would be a template designed for a a wc for gw6, what do you guys think?

Thoughts on this team (No Salah):

          Mendy / 4.0

          TAA Dias Perisic Tomiyasu 4.0

          Diaz Neto Martinelli Son 4.5

          Kane Haaland 4.5

Where does the Championship rate amongst every other league in Europe? 10th, 11th, 12th...lower? I'm asking this because - hypothetically - if a newly promoted team signed a striker from the Dutch Eredivisie or the Portuguese Liga who had just scored 43 goals in that league the previous season would we possibly be clambering over each other to get him in out teams at 6.5m?

Now 27 years of age, Is Mitro a reformed character? Are 90.2% of us blindly ignoring his 21/22 exploits and pre-judging him solely on our previous traumatic experiences? Is that 4.5m spent on Greenwood money down the toilet when we can have this talismanic, goal scoring MACHINE in our team for a poxy 2m extra?

Or is he still Fools Gold?

Personally, I'm taking the plunge on him as a third striker. If he can't rack up some meaningful points against the likes of Wolves, Brentford or Brighton in the first five game weeks then all hope for him is lost - forever.

I’m not keen on Fulham’s fixtures - it’s a shame as I think a lot were put off by previous experiences and he could have been a decent differential if the fixtures had fallen more kindly. I think he’s a much better player than he was on previous times in the PL.
