FPL team guides: Wolverhampton Wanderers – Best players, predicted line-ups + more

Gameweek 1 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) is almost upon us and we’re profiling all 20 Premier League teams before the season starts.

From our top picks from each team to a predicted line-up for the opening weekend, we’ve covered each top-flight side in detail.

Next up is Wolverhampton Wanderers, who despite flirting with Champions League qualification in 2021/22, suffered an alarming drop-off in the closing months.

Data in this article comes from our Premium Members Area, which you can access with a discounted subscription for as little as £2.49 a month today.

FPL points predictions for Gameweek 3 and beyond 3

Wolves really struggled for goals throughout 2021/22 and finished the campaign among the lowest scorers in the division.

In fact, only the three relegated clubs – Burnley, Watford and Norwich City – scored fewer than their 38, with their expected goals (xG) tally faring even worse when compared to other top-flight clubs.

Their lack of creativity in the final third was sometimes overlooked during the first half of the season, when they possessed one of the best defensive records in the division. However, the campaign came to a disappointing end, as Wolves won just three of their last 14 league games.

The fact they finished 10th with such a dismal goalscoring output is an achievement in itself, but manager Bruno Lage will be demanding more in 2022/23.

Who played the most minutes over the March international break?

    Thoughts on this Onemium guys?

    Sanchez
    TAA Robbo Cancelo James Perisic
    Salah Mount Kulu Saka
    Jesus

    Ward Andreas 4.5 4.5

So basically compared to the template, I have changed Kane/Haaland + 2 cheap mids -> three 8.0 mids. Obviously trusting Salah as my cap for the first few weeks.

        Need a huge Sofa.
But I think I am confident that even if Haaland scores a brace, my upgrades in midfield would cover those points over the likes of Neto and Bailey

It’s a decent bet! Monitor Kulu’s minutes in the first few GWs though!

Similar idea but prefer 2 striker instead of 2x4.5 strikers.
Currently on Toney to partner Jesus

Not very sure on Toney. Specially with the first 2 fixtures being tricky.
        And Eriksen not there anymore.

This is my team, although I went ward / Iversen and used the 0.5 to go Kulu to Bowen - but I am a Hammer, and I think it will have more upside

anybody not on a 8m mid and worried about how to get to one if needed?

I like my team but would require a few transfers/restructure to get in a Foden/Mahrez/Mount/Saka/Diaz

I am on 3 actually but I have only 1 premium in defence and dont trust this lower price mids, wont to see them in action first

    2. Sanchit
      • 8 Years

Premium defence + 2 premium attackers means the other 3/4 attackers have to be sacrificed on.
But I wouldn't worry tbh, if you want to jump on Mount, you just have to downgrade one of your premium attackers

      1. yanky
        • 14 Years

        Ramsdale
        TAA Robbo Cancelo James
        Salah Martinelli Neto Rashford
        Kane Jesus

        I guess i could do it in 2 moves— rashford > 8.0 and robbo/james > 4.5/5.0 def

Like many, I have that unprecedented gulf of 7 million between first and second mid. Ought to break every law known to FPL, but I'm good with it, albeit acknowledging the risks.

    4. Bring back Rafa

I have one. But I wouldn’t be too worried, it’s more important to pick the 6m-6.5m midfielder that will be priced at 8m next year (whoever that might be)

  5. iL PiStOlErO
    • 4 Years

    Raya
    Robbo Perisic Walker White
    Salah(C) L.Diaz Kulusevski Mount
    Haaland Jesus

    Ward Greenwood N.Williams Andersen

    Final dilemma:

    A) stick with Robbo+Perisic combo or go TAA+Dier instead?

    B) Leave Mount or rather switch to Saka or Mahrez?

    1. ★Kuntheman★
      • 8 Years

Robbo+Perisic, keep Mount unless switching to Mahrez. Saka+Jesus could be awesome but CPL is no easy fixture to leverage 16m in attackers on

Welp, this is me locked in for tomorrow with a bit of a ballsy one:

    Ward (Iversen)
    TAA Cancelo Perisic Williams (Patterson)
    Salah Martinelli Bailey (Andreas, Dasilva)
    Kane Haaland Jesus

Tempted to go Doherty+Son over Perisic+Kane but that’s really it. Prefer Perisic to Doherty and prefer Son to Kane so it’s a tough one for sure. Rest of the team is locked.

Yep that’s made Son more compelling as well. It’s a really tough one. Perisic looks awesome but I’d take Son over Kane every day of the week with the CS+extra point per goal

    2. Flaming Flamingo
      • 7 Years
      1 year, 7 months ago

Good luck! Personally it sounds kind of crazy to go with Kane considering he isn't one of your three favourite premium players. Both Doherty and Perisic are risks, so might be worth considering going with Son and a different 5.0 defender?

      1. ★Kuntheman★
        • 8 Years
        1 year, 7 months ago

I’ve considered Son+Walker too, Walker should be nailed for a decent bit. You’re absolutely right though, I have all of the premiums I want except for Son, I should probably make it happen!

Perisic looks so damn good though 😆 Doherty vs. Walker is a tough one too!

        1. Flaming Flamingo
          • 7 Years
          1 year, 7 months ago

Perisic and Doherty might not even start, although I agree Perisic has a huge upside. If you went Kane and Perisic only for him not to start you'd have big regrets. If the same happens with Doherty, you at least have the premium you want so it'll be easier to stomach

          1. ★Kuntheman★
            • 8 Years
            1 year, 7 months ago

The solution could legitimately just be dropping Martinelli for Neto but I feel like the difference between those two in quality is massive compared to Perisic vs Doherty if both start. I think they both start the first few games but who knows from there.

Gonna struggle with this decision but having Son would definitely make me feel more assured than having Kane. Son’s just different gravy honestly, elite against all teams, most clinical finisher in the league imo, I think he’s easily better than Kane as a prospect but Perisic could equally be the pick of the defenders this season, he’s an absolutely lethal attacker

            1. Flaming Flamingo
              • 7 Years
              1 year, 7 months ago

Based on what you've said, I'd definitely get Son over Kane and then decide on the spots from there. Best of luck!

Is Robertson really worth the extra cash over Allison/VVD? I understand that he played less minutes than both last season so that's why their scores are all close. Can afford Robbo but having the extra cash saved is nice.

    1. klopptimusprime
      • 7 Years

Robbo's upside is definitely worth 0.5m - 1.5m over VVD/Alisson if you can afford it

    2. Andy_Social

I think he is, but there are 2 sides, of course.

PRO: he seems even more attacking in pre-season.
CON: with 5 subs, he'll be hauled off whereas Ali and Virg never will.

      1. Thomas Magnum
        • 8 Years
        1 year, 7 months ago

Heard he has been looking very good down the left, nice link up with Diaz so he may be in for another 200 point season.
But the con is what I worry about, I guess all fullbacks have a risk of being taken off early, especially now Tsimikas has shown he can do a good job. Plus, if Robertson scores high then chances are the other 2 won't be too far behind on CS's and BPS' alone

  12. Joe

    Thoughts on this?
    A) Robertson, Salah, 4.5 bench fodder forward (formation would be 4-5-1) OR
    B) Gabriel, Diaz, Haaland (4-4-2)

For context, I have Son and Jesus already.

    1. ★Kuntheman★

Thanks! So would you keep Haaland and get rid of Son then?

The other option I suppose if I go 4-5-1 would be to upgrade Andreas to Rashford instead of Gabriel to Robbo.

It's a potential trap even if they don't. Their defence was terrible last season and now it's weaker. Their opening fixtures are a horror show. I'm sticking with a keeper that has a good chance of bagging a few points.

Hmm. A is very big at back. Which is fine. I’m just not a fan of that

Having said that I have pretty much same team with Diaz over Robbo see below!

(And appreciate any thoughts you have on mine too please)

Hmm. You have me thinking about that too now!

Conte did seem to rate Sessegnon however that may have been out of necessity.

I think Perisic is fine for first few weeks until Europe starts.

Wondering if I should risk Perisic from the start or leave him and maybe get him in for Rashford on gw3 if I could manage to avoid a GW2 transfer and therefore have 2 FT for GW3

Booking transfers for 2 weeks ahead is risky. Having said that Rashford is a high reward option for first week.

If it helps I would be almost certain Perisic is nailed (for now)

I'm unsure about him playing 60 minutes even if he does start in the first couple of games, He'd be the first man in my team if I wasnt worried about this

Very rare for players to get taken off before 60. Especially full backs

The trouble with that plan is that the next GW, GW4 will be the start of the persistent twice-a-week schedule, including CL. We can expect Peresic's minutes to be heavily managed.

I did the opposite - finally overcame my reticence to start with him when I got the news of (a) DCL's injury meaning a free clean sheet for GW1, and (b) Azpi signing a new contract and Cucu joining, making James nailed at RWB a fairly safe bet.

I think this might be a fun twist on the template team (352)

    Ramsdale
    TAA-Robbo-Cancelo
    Salah-Mount-Martinelli-Neto-Bailey
    Haaland-Jesus.
    4.0 Neco Patterson Archer

Or do I go Martinelli/Neto to Andreas / Patterson to Trippier and play 442?

He's expected to continue being a starter. It's possible of course, but hard to see Richarlison breaking into this team outside of allowing players to rest and being a super sub

            hmmmm, something to think about.....
Its possible we are going to see a different season to what we are use to with the 5 sub rule. If I am a manager and my team is 2 goals up, I want to get my assets off the field, maybe 80 - 90 minutes for the premium players is going to be a thing of the past

    Thoughts on this 4-5-1?

    Ederson (Ward)
    TAA, Cancelo, Gabriel, Dalot (Neco)
Salah (c), Son, Mount, Rashford, Martinelli
    Jesus (Plange, Archer)

I could easily get Haaland in by downgrading some mids but not sure if it's worth it from the start. The lack of Man City attackers does scare me a bit though.

Solid.... I just think IMHO that points are in the defence for the taking this season.
Maybe Mount, Rash, to Bailey, Neto
and the 4m can go to Delot to Robbo / Neco to Perisic or Gab to James

Thanks, good idea. I am not sold on Neto personally but Rashford doesn't thrill me either. Definitely worth considering.

Thinking I will for sure do Rashford -> Bailey, Ederson -> Ramsdale and Gabriel -> Robbo.

Alternatively, Mount -> Bailey and keeping Rashford would let me also do Dalot -> James in addition to the Robbo buy.
