Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers are looking to Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur, for the Gameweek 6 captaincy, and as per usual, the Captain Sensible article is here to highlight which assets have the best chance of hauling.

First, we will assess the fallout of the Gameweek 6 captain poll, before then analysing the best options, Rate My Team (RMT) and the Premier Fantasy Tools ratings ahead of Saturday’s 11:00 GMT deadline.

THE CAPTAIN POLL

Erling Haaland (£11.9m) is the leader of the captain poll in Gameweek 6, with just under 45% of total votes from our users at the time of writing.

Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) plays understudy to Manchester City’s Norwegian for the second successive Gameweek, backed by a mite over 30% of those polled.

Harry Kane (£11.4m) occupies third place with 5%, followed by Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.5m) and Kevin De Bruyne (£12.2m), with 3.7% and 3.1% respectively.

HOW HAS CAPTAIN SENSIBLE PERFORMED SO FAR THIS SEASON?

Gameweek1st2nd3rd
1Salah (12)Kane (2)Son (5)
2Haaland (5)Salah (2)De Bruyne (14)
3Salah (8)Jesus (4)Kane (6)
4Salah (3)Kane (10)Haaland (17)
5Salah (10)Haaland (17)De Bruyne (1)

THE MAIN CANDIDATES

MOHAMED SALAH/TRENT ALEXANDER-ARNOLD

Mohamed Salah provided two assists, and registered a somewhat fortuitous double-digit haul, in Liverpool’s last gasp 2-1 home victory over Newcastle United in Gameweek 5.

A security of starts, and expected minutes, made Salah the safe armband choice – but Liverpool’s Egyptian required eight stoppage time minutes and his shoulder – to assist Fabio Carvalho (£5.4m) and break Newcastle’s hearts.

Salah failed to muster an effort on target against the Magpies in a shot-shy performance symptomatic of his campaign to date.

The Egyptian has recorded four shots on target from a total of 14 attempts across the five opening rounds.

Essentially, that’s a shot accuracy of 28.6%, down from an average of 39.6% across last season.

Assessing the two periods, Salah has seen a significant drop in goal threat – with minutes per attempt capitulating (from 19.9 to 32.1) and minutes per expected goal slowing (from 116.8 to 189.9).

Surprisingly, Liverpool’s Egyptian leads the division for key passes (21) with his minutes per chance created seeing a sharp uptick compared to last term (45 to 21).

However, Salah boasts a strong recent record against the Toffees with four attacking returns, three goals and one assists, in his last four Merseyside derbies.

C:\Users\1475775\Downloads\Salah chances created.PNG

Above: Mohamed Salah’s chances created (21) over the last five matches.

The Reds face Everton in Saturday’s early kick-off with Frank Lampard’s charges yet to register a clean sheet this term.

The Toffees rank fourth-worst for shots inside the box conceded (52) and third-worst for expected goals conceded (xGC) after five Gameweeks.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has been sold by 100,000+ FPL managers with confidence in Liverpool’s rear-guard wavering after one clean sheet over the last five matches.

However, the West Derby native’s 71st-minute withdrawal against Newcastle bodes well for a start in Gameweek 6 – and the full-back’s underlying numbers are promising.

Alexander-Arnold has created 12 chances, more than any other defender, and has taken a team-leading 17 corners across the opening five rounds.

In terms of clean sheet prospects, Everton have blanked just once this season, against Chelsea in Gameweek 1, accruing an expected goal every 82.7 minutes.

However, Everton demonstrate dead-ball weakness conceding 24 attempts from set-plays, with only Bournemouth ranking worse, and joint third-worst for headed goal attempts conceded (17) this season.

Furthermore, Everton have conceded 21 chances from their left flank – ranking fourth-worst this season – an area of zonal weakness that both Alexander-Arnold and Salah can exploit.

Keepers rarely get subbed on to build fitness. Ramsdale starts or Ward comes in as a sub

With how Leicester defends these days, I'd suggest Ramsdale with a lot of hope that he's fit

Don't have him but agree with Ze_Austin, with the possibility of Haaland being rested he could do really well. City tend to put a few past Villa and have had big scores in the past against them and I think this could be another one of those games

You clearly have 12 starters which you don't need.
Spending ~7m in your first sub is not something I personally do.
Would give the same suggestion of downgrading one of those to fodder

Why everyone thinks James is fit and won't be rested for CL but Persic will be?? Did Conte drop Perisic in Seria A (I know a slower league) before Inter's CL games??

I reckon he will start Perisic but just a gut feeling

    1. chocolove
      • 15 Years
      3 years, 3 months ago

Im torn between starting Neco or Perisic. I think Perisic would get attacking return even if he got benched

    2. Ze_Austin
      • 7 Years
      3 years, 3 months ago

Yes. Perisic rotated a lot under Conte, and he was younger then

I'm starting him too, but that's because I can't fully justify a hit for James. There's a chance of attacking returns off the bench for Perisic, but 1 point is better than locking in a -4 when Chelsea's defence doesn't look rock solid yet and they'll be a few DMs short (again) against West Ham

James was ill. He's been seen back in training and declared fit. So he effectively had a rest, boosting his starting chances in a GW where the same can't be said for many assets

I'd certainly say the former! Having him would be differential enough, they've still only scored 2 goals in 5 games so it'd be a huge risk. But if you like to play risky and think it'll pay off then go for it, always nice to see different picks around

Saka to Martinelli isn't sideways. It's an upgrade in FPL. A late one, but still an upgrade

      Capping KDB?

Might consider a GW8 WC here, but maybe that's already your plan

      1. Arteta
        • 10 Years
        3 years, 3 months ago

Hey Ze, that's a sound advice, but I just can't do it. I'm too stubborn now to press the trigger after a month and I don't get his past points anyway. I keep hoping for Saka haul which never came, because he was simply too wasteful. I also keep thinking that I need a few differentials and I'm not gaining anything against top 1m if I get Martinelli now. I feel like I have to stick with at least a few less owned players in order to make up ground.

Yeah, I even thought about using wildcard this week as I wanted to jump on some players before others do. I didn't do it kind of regret it. WC in GW8 is now pretty likely for me too.

I'm still considering whether de Bruyne (c) is worth the risk or not. He's well rested and even though he's mostly gonna look for Haaland, he's gonna take a few shoots as well. The double digit haul is definitely possible.

Didn't have Jesus in GW2. I had faith in 8m mids (Mount) instead. Didn't start with a third striker, as I really liked Robbo's fixtures and didn't see the Liverpool defensive crisis coming

GW3 wildcard was locked in. It was good, to be fair, but the damage had been done

Still trying to climb out of rank 2m - 3m. That 19-pointer is the main difference, combined with consistent first-sub hauls where the 50:50 preference blanked

Long, long season ahead. I know that taking early risks is the wrong way to react to this, so it's going to test the limits of my patience

It takes time but you just need one good week to get you back up there. I was between 1.8m and 2.5m the last 2GWs, got 90pts this week and am inside the 800k mark now. It's still very, very early on so don't worry
