Our team of Pro Pundits, Hall of Famers and guest writers will be providing regular articles and team reveals throughout the new season, with only Premium Members able to access every single one.

Here, Burning Questions co-host Pras talks through five one-week Fantasy flings using data and images from our Premium Members Area and reveals his own team plans for Gameweek 16.

Onto Gameweek 16, which has all the feels of the typical Gameweek 38. Teams “on the beach” are replaced by cautious players avoiding injury a week before the World Cup, while one-week flings and punts are back on the menu – with the exception that team value still matters, to an extent.

One thing to note is that most of the ‘better’ teams have good fixtures. In fact from the traditional top six, it’s only Chelsea that have a difficult fixture against an in-form Newcastle United. Apart from that, Manchester City, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Manchester United all have great fixtures. Therefore, it is not just important to see who you really want but to first see who you are selling. Wilfried Zaha (£7.5m) and Mohamed Salah (£12.7m) have already shown last week the perils of giving up too soon, so my first bit of advice is to really find the weakest spot(s) in your team and go for a punt in that position/budget.

There are lots of options given the tasty fixtures but I am going to present a few names I am personally contemplating.

Darwin Nunez (£8.9m)

  • Ownership: 8.1%
  • Fixture: Southampton (h)

With a lot of money floating around from the recent City/Liverpool downgrades, and many managers looking for exit options for Messrs Mitrovic, Toney and Alvarez, Darwin looks to be a popular move. It isn’t without merit.

As seen below, on a ‘per appearance’ basis, Darwin has more big chances and more big chances created than Salah, and overall he comes close to the Egyptian on an expected goal involvement (xGI) per 90 minutes basis.

In fact, Nunez has the best minutes-per-shot rate of any FPL player who has made at least one start.

In terms of opponents, Liverpool play a Ralph Hasenhüttl-less Southampton who conceded four goals to Newcastle in Gameweek 15. Moreover, with injuries piling up, the Saints do not have a fit right back – and they even tried budget left-back Juan Larios (£4.0m) in that position over the weekend, only for him to limp off.

Andy Robertson (£6.7m)

  • Ownership: 4.0%
  • Fixture: Southampton (h)

It has been evident in the new Liverpool 4-4-2 formation that it is typically the left-back who is bombing forward more, with Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.2m) being more withdrawn and creating chances from long-range crosses rather than the Robertson-style forays up the touchline or runs into the box. This is evident in the touch and chances created maps below for the recent games where both Robertson and Alexander-Arnold have started together:

That’s all for now, folks. Good luck this Gameweek and enjoy the FPL break and the World Cup.

Oh, by the way, I forgot to mention: it’s coming home!

I don't want to jump on Southgate, I disagree with a lot of his choices but he's a football manager while I'm not for a reason and he gets enough abuse around most England fixtures. But I really can't stand his nonsensical reasoning for a lot of his selections or decisions to leave out players.

He's said he didn't pick Abraham because of a "poor run of scoring form at the wrong time", yet Sterling has scored just twice in his last 16 apps for club and country and is selected, and Maguire has been in poor form all season while Dier has had a dreadful month but both get the nod over someone like Tomori. He said he didn't pick James because "there are too many unknowns, and it would be deemed arrogant to take a player who can't play in the groups in some circles", but is bringing Kyle Walker who "is not back in full training but will be available before the end of the group stage" if all goes well which there is no guarantee of. He said "we are now 10 days [away], so form could be more important. We are watching their club form" but Phillips has just played his first 40mins in months.

Just admit you prefer certain players for your system or because you know them better over the years or because you just trust them more and that that's why, even when they're in poor form, you've picked them over players that are in good form and have been all season. This contradictory "reasoning" and trying to bring up factors like form just sounds silly.

I'm not even in the UK lol, sorry for trying to have a discussion about the selection process or the legitimate reasoning behind selections

If you actually bothered to read the comment you'd see its one of the more grounded responses, not just another "What, no Sancho?!"

I did read it, and chose to give that response.

I’m pretty sick of all the negative hysteria about Southgate selections tbh.

And to Nate’s point - what is wrong exactly with picking players you are more familiar with and are suited to the systems played more?

If Nate had bothered to listen to Southgate’s very own reasoning this afternoon, he’d have heard that the manager feels there needs to be a certain level of consistency with selection, otherwise, what are they building on exactly?

Oh, I'm not trying to get into a debate about Southgate's reasoning myself... I don't really care tbh. Just find it weird that you pick this post to apply that critique to when it clearly has nothing to do with Nate's favourite players

I have no issue with that, my issue is that he won't just simply say that. The entire post was about him saying he's picking X because of form and not Y because of form but really a lot of his picks are down to either the system he wants to implement or his history with the players and him feeling he can count on them even if they're not playing well (or at all for their clubs). I just don't understand why he can't come out and say it rather than making up these silly contradictory reasons, I think people would accept it more if he was just honest

I agree that his reasoning is inconsistent. The domestic bias is a worry to me also.

Couldn't agree more NateDog! It doesn't matter who Southgate picks in his sqaud - he will play "his players" that fit his system, regardless of form, etc. His reasoning makes no sense.

You have made some good points there Natedog. I am furious that maguire is selected. There is no reasoning for his selection and there are better players out there. Let’s be honest Souyhgate is a first class nob! Hope the lads do well though!

He will stand and fall on results so it probably matters little why he needs to justify his selections or even bothers to.

Southgate has it handy naming the squad. What about tactics to motivate wife and two daughters away from the telly for World Cup matches?

I've just got off the phone to Gareth. I told him I'd like to officially rule myself out of contention for the World Cup squad. He said FFS James, I'll have to pick Trent now.

Actually thinking of just saving my FT this week. Don't see too many moves I want to make. Help appreciated.

    Guaita
    Cancelo - White - Webster
    Salah - Foden - Zaha - Rashford
    Haaland - Mitro - Jesus

    Ward - Andreas - Zouma - Neco

    A) Save
    B) Zouma/Webster > 5.1 defender (thinking Konate/Gomez?)
    C) Mitro > 7.4 forward
    D) Something else

We get unlimited free transfers during the WC break & if you use 2 or more then you lose any transfer rolled this week (for GW18). Plus Mitrovic is almost certianly out, so C

I don't think we can disagree with the Southgate squad too much. I would have went quite different but hey ho.

Everyone has their favourite players, that's just life. We also don't know in detail the characters of each of the players, a crucial consideration.

But what he can be criticised for is the tepid and boring style of football. He should have been sacked immediately after the Euros final.

Hope he proves me wrong but I doubt it.

Argentina. Scaloni is the first manager in a long while that has really gotten the best out of Messi and without hindering the rest of the team

Anything can happen in knock-out football.

Brazil look strongest on paper. But a dodgy backpass from Fred, or someone breathing on Telles and it could be over.

      I fancy Oranje too.

I have this team with 2FT and 0itb. What transfers would you do? Thinking of doing Kepa+Gomez to Guaita+ Guehi/Mykolenko.

    Ward
    Trippier, Cancelo, White
    Foden, Zaha, Saka, Martinelli
    Kane, Haaland, Darwin

    Kepa, Andreas, Gomez, Neco

Looking to make a one week punt.. Can't decide between -

    A) Mitrovic to Firmino; or
    B) Estupinan to Perisic.

Any thoughts to help me decide?

    Current team
    Pope
    Trippier White Gabriel Cancelo
    Salah Martinelli Foden
    Wilson Haaland Nunez

    Do I:
    A. Leave as is, Andreas is first sub, let him roll if Wilson doesn't play.
    B. Do Wilson & Foden > Solanke & Kulusevski as a one week hit -4
    C. Do Foden to Kulu only subject to Pep presser
    D. Something else
