The Double Gameweek 22 news that many of us had been expecting arrived on Friday afternoon.

It’s a provisional announcement but it confirms that Manchester United and Leeds United will play twice in Gameweek 22, so long as a FA Cup fourth-round replay isn’t needed for either side.

WHAT ARE THE DOUBLE GAMEWEEK 22 FIXTURES?

Leeds face a trip to Nottingham Forest before they head to Old Trafford, while the Red Devils entertain a side they have just met – Crystal Palace – before hosting Jesse Marsch’s side.

There’s a swift rematch between Leeds and Man Utd in Gameweek 23 at Elland Road, too, just four days after they clash in Manchester!

WHEN WILL THE DOUBLE GAMEWEEK BE CONFIRMED FOR DEFINITE?

We will know by the end of Saturday 28 January whether the Double Gameweek will go ahead for certain.

Leeds play either Accrington Stanley or Boreham Wood in the lunchtime kick-off that day, while Manchester United entertain Reading in the evening game.

Should neither side need a replay in those FA Cup fourth-round ties, Double Gameweek 22 will be confirmed.

DOUBLE GAMEWEEK 22 TARGETS?

FPL Gameweek 21 differentials: Gnonto, March + Ward-Prowse 1

Many FPL teams will already be well stocked with Manchester United assets following their Double Gameweek 20, with Luke Shaw (£5.2m), Marcus Rashford (£7.1m) and Bruno Fernandes (£9.8m) all well backed.

Leeds won’t be heavily represented in many current Fantasy squads but Wilfried Gnonto (£5.0m) couldn’t have burst onto the scene in a more timely fashion and he’ll no doubt be under consideration as a budget third forward.

An ‘out of position’ Rodrigo (£6.4m) is the leading FPL midfielder for goals scored in 2022/23 and is another stand-out Gameweek 22 target, although there is the nagging game-time uncertainty following the return to fitness of Patrick Bamford (£7.2m) and the acquisition of Georginio Rutter (£5.5m).

The two sides have some decent fixtures either side of their doubles, too, as shown in the ‘ticker’ further up this page.

TRIPLE CAPTAIN OPPORTUNITY?

There were over half a million Triple Captain chips used in Gameweek 20, the majority of them on Erling Haaland (£12.2m).

For the rest of us with the chip still intact, there’s a decision to make over when to deploy it.

Manchester United’s pair of provisional Gameweek 22 fixtures is arguably the most attractive ‘double-header’ of the season so far.

Erik ten Hag hasn’t been one to tinker too much with his starting XI to date but the Red Devils are about to enter a period of fixture congestion, with three cup ties to come before that provisional Double Gameweek 22 (two of them semi-final ties).

The Palace-Leeds-Leeds run of league games then follows, although a Saturday-Wednesday-Sunday turnaround is slightly more generous than it could have been.

A Europa League tie against Barcelona lurks just around the corner after Gameweek 23.

BLANK GAMEWEEK 25

One thing to point out is that both Leeds United and Manchester United could blank in Gameweek 25. Or one of them could. Or neither of them could!

It all depends on the results of the EFL Cup semi-finals, which will be concluded on January 31/February 1.

You can read more about that here.

Suffice to say, you may need an exit plan if you’re stocking up on players from each side – but at least we’ll know about who will blank in Gameweek 25 in advance of the Gameweek 22 deadline.

Where does Trossard fit into the arsenal team? Surely matti Ellis is 1st spot! Only backup?

Martinelli could start up top and Troessard on the left with Nketiah on bench.

Really tempted to go Trippier (C).

But captaining a defender always feels more risky - one fluke goal and it's 0 points. You spend the game hoping for no goals, which feels more negative than hoping for a goal.

Either him or KDB I think this week

    Kane - Toney - Haaland

    Ramsdale / Ward
Trippier, Stones, Shaw / Castagne, Patterson
    Salah, Saka, Rashford, Martinelli, Almirón
    Haaland, Kane / Greenwood

    A. Patterson to Botman, save other ft
    B. Castagne to Botman, save other ft
    C. Greenwood to Gnonto, save other ft
    D. Ramsdale to Raya, Almirón to Odegaard

If MUN and NEW blank in GW25 (pretty high chance imo) then surely Trippier Shaw and Rashford will relax on your bench.

The question is, what are you going to do with your Bruno (or any other 3rd United) and Botman/Burn and Almiron (doubt you'll be holding this guy that long)?

So for that reason maybe Bruno to Saka/Ode a consideration in DGW23. In my case, I have a cash cow in Darwin (likely to be Leeds guy later) so can afford to keep Bruno and upgrade Andreas/Almiron to an Arsenal mid. I might lose Botman to get someone who plays in bgw23, and bench Pope instead if I get him.

Make it or break it time

I think I'll keep Bruno & Schär up to 25 (Almiron - Bruno next week), and bench the 3 you mention (plus Mitoma, probably)

      1. NABIL - FPL otai
        • 13 Years
        3 years, 15 days ago

Yeah think mamy will be forced to play with 9 or 10 that week, but you gotta plan from now or else things will get uglier.

I think I might play with 10 especially if I keep Bruno. But hey Weghorst could be the best 3rd United by then, and the whole landscape would change. FTs going to be massive

Right now we should hope that NEW game in gw25, if postponed for Carabao ginal), can be moved to the same GW (the following midweek).. or else it's going to spell trouble for many

I might just field 9 or 10 players rather than use my FH or lose value/players I'd want straight back in

        • 13 Years
        3 years, 15 days ago

Fair point indeed but by that time maybe losing a player you'd like to keep is viable if a strong replacement appears.. for example, Martinez or Weghorst turn out to be a better 3rd MUN than Bruno for your structure/strategy, just saying.

If you haven't WCed yet, bear in mind that 28 is another BGW & 29 a DGW. So by 25 you can start deadending into WC29

Either have the option of rolling the transfer and playing Mount or bringing in Gnonto this week
Even if Leeds and united don’t double in gw22, surely getting Gnonto is the better option? Mount has just been so poor lately.

I'm leaning this way too for those reasons but also his form and Haaland (while still capable of decent returns) is not a sharp as before world cup, with tougher fixtures in his incoming double and any futures ones (and his form, state of City's title bid) unknown.

All these transfer plans around a POTENTIAL DGW22. It may not even happen. Utd play a championship team in the FA Cup so a replay is highly possible.

Well, mostly people are looking at bringing in a 3rd Man Utd player after Arsenal, by which time the DGW would be confirmed. Gotta make them plans!

Reading are one of the worst defences in the championship. The game is at Old Trafford as well so it would be quite an upset if Reading get something there.

Leeds are the team I'm worried about. We don't even know who their opponent will be yet.

What is current take on White vs Gabriel vs Saliba. With White playing more attacking role (and getting baps more) is White the go to guy? Currently money does not seem to be huge issue.

Went with Gabriel, still waiting for his attacking threat to come through.

Yep. Had White before wc, dropped him to get 0.7 from Patterson. Now I am bringing him back for Patterson because money is no issue and I don't have defense 😀

      White

+ Cheap, nailed, attacking, best team in the league

      - Occasionally getting subbed - sometimes before 60,

but he's a great option overall

I would say that Martial sellers are in the mud, but maybe not... if he's fit, he'll play. Some outstanding mess trying to plan transfers here until GW25, given that so many players we want now, won't be playing.

Was thinking (A) Marty > Ode but considering (B) Almiron > Ode instead?

    Draft league question:

    Pick 2 Def from city

    Lewis, Akanji, Dias

Tough. Lewis for sure, in brilliant form. 5 central defenders fit though with unclear pecking order, Stones is only one relatively nailed. I think Akanji loses his spot soon, very leaky at the back and looks leggy. As a City fan, it should my order (which probably differs massively from Ol' baldie's, is:

      Stones
      Laporte
      Dias
      Ake
      Akanji

Pep likes Ake at LB and he is solid enough, but doesn't give attacking width desperately needed with wingers that go inside majority of time.
