Fantasy Football Scout community writer Greyhead analyses the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) transfers and strategies of some noted Fantasy managers, from serial top 10k finishers to well-known faces.

The Great and The Good this season are the BlackBox pair of Mark Sutherns and Az, Scouts Joe LepperTom FreemanNeale Rigg, Geoff Dance, Pro Pundits PrasZophar and FPL Harry,  FPL “celebrities” Magnus CarlsenFPL GeneralLTFPL AndyBen Crellin, from the Hall of Fame, Fabio BorgesFPL MatthewFinn Sollie and Tom Stephenson and of course last year’s mini-league winner and overall no.2 Suvansh.

“Relax, don’t do it, when you want to go to it”

And relax. A delay in FPL proceedings and not one we can blame on the District Line (Fulham fans will explain), faulty refereeing equipment or drones, as cup games enforce a pause in the action.

There’s plenty to ponder over the next few days with a potential Double Gameweek 22 for the suddenly very good Manchester United and the inconsistent Leeds United, all while trying to guess the best triple-up configuration of Arsenal and Manchester City players for the week after.

Many head into the break on a green arrow, especially those who kept faith with the ‘out of form’ Erling Haaland (£12.2m) and had the differential pick of Eddie Nketiah (£6.7m) in their team – suddenly lots of people are interested in when Gabriel Jesus (£7.9m) will be resurrected.

Meanwhile, Kepa Arrizabalaga (£4.6m) continues to reward his owners, although not those who dared to play Danny Ward (£4.1m) over him, a decision that will haunt the writer of this article for a while.

OVERALL PERFORMANCE

Is the ‘Godfather of FPL’ making a comeback? Mark Sutherns was just three shy of a century with a 740,000 green arrow to boot, thanks to a triple Arsenal attack including Nketiah and a bit of good luck/skill as Pervis Estupinan (£4.5m) auto-subbed into his team.

FPL General and Pras also scored in the nineties to continue their revivals, as did FPL Harry who is the closest one to applying pressure on the excellence of Excel, Ben Crellin.

The captaincy call gave us a bit of drama this week, as Az ruled the roost on Saturday with his Kaoru Mitoma (£5.1m) pick before the Haaland hangover hit him hard on Sunday.

Magnus Carlsen continues to throw armband Hail Marys, this time going with the Jimmy Greaves record-chasing Harry Kane (£11.7m). He scored again, in his ongoing efforts to single-handedly carry Spurs to a Champions League spot.

The Great and The Good: FPL transfers, rank, template + more 12

TRANSFERS

As predicted, it was a slow news day for transfers, as the majority rolled theirs into the upcoming doubles.

Martin Odegaard (£6.9m) was the one to tempt a few, subsequently rewarded by an assist. That’s 40 points post-restart and he now looks to be the Arsenal player to own, alongside Ben White (£4.7m), Bukayo Saka (£8.2m) and Nketiah. Wouldn’t it be easier if we had four spots?

Az deserves credit for championing and then putting his money where his mouth is with Mitoma, a ten-point haul proving he may actually know what he’s talking about.

He is still criminally under-owned – Mitoma, not Az – with the potential Blank Gameweek 25 putting managers off.

  • Az – Mitoma (Andreas)
  • LTFPL Andy – No transfers
  • Ben Crellin – No transfers
  • Fabio Borges – Odegaard (Andreas)
  • Finn Sollie – Odegaard (Foden)
  • FPL Harry – No transfers
  • Joe Lepper – No transfers
  • Geoff Dance – Odegaard (Kulusevski)
  • FPL General – No transfers
  • Magnus Carlsen – No transfers
  • Mark Sutherns – Odegaard (Andreas)
  • FPL Matthew – No transfers
  • Neale Rigg – No transfers
  • Pras – No transfers
  • Suvansh – No transfers
  • Tom Freeman – No transfers
  • Tom Stephenson – No transfers
  • Zophar – No transfers

TEMPLATE

Solid as a rock. The most likely new entrants will be Bruno Fernandes (£9.9m) and Odegaard over the next few weeks.

The full details are as follows, with the number in brackets showing how many teams they appear in:

Ward (14), Kepa (13)

Trippier (17), Shaw (15), White (14), Patterson (8), Doherty (6)

Rashford (18), Martinelli (13), De Bruyne (13), Andreas (12), Saka (7)

Haaland (18), Mitrovic (14), Kane (12)

RESTART RENAISSANCE

The pause gives a chance to look at who has hit the restart hard and which of ‘The Great and The Good’ has had the biggest rank gain.

Beware FPL General: he is on the march with 391 points and a 76% rank jump moving up to the 250,000 mark.

Not far behind him is FPL Harry, Tom S and our league leader Mr Crellin.

Unfortunately, Magnus Carlsen’s Wildcard and Triple Captain chip have failed to do much to rejuvenate his fortunes.

CONCLUSION

It’s time to sit back and watch the cup matches roll past, whilst others work out their significance on the blanks and doubles.

I suspect many will be planning some heavy-hitting hokey-cokey between Mohamed Salah (£12.8m), Fernandes and Kevin De Bruyne (£12.5m), which is being whispered in the dark corners of FPL land.

Some have even suggested a Marcus Rashford (£7.2m) Triple Captain option being on the cards but, whatever you do, it may be best to wait until the full landscape is known before making your move. Remember what Frankie said… relax.

I mean, I thought about it but Arsenal away could be difficult & I just fancy a wee differential punt to try and break into top 500 k.

I'm actually tempted by Saka in GW23. He's on pens and Arsenal score a lot of goals at home, Brentford away are not the same team that they are at home and City will give away chances.

Saka over Haaland in DGW23?! I don't think I would go against Haaland who has AVL (H) and ars (A)

It would be a risk but Villa are much tighter now defensively and Arsenal away is as tough as it gets.

Here's the list of central midfielders Arsenal could target now or in the summer.

Who would be your pick of the bunch for them and who would you like to see at your club?

Bellingham, Rice & Neves. Probably shouldn't get my hopes up of anyone on this list coming to Leeds though

If Rice is 100+ I would be surprised, and I think Arsenal should avoid. He's a good match for Arsenal but it's too much

Fernandez and Bellingham are the stand outs there.

Fernandez is the real deal. Way better than Nunes or particulary, Neves, because Nunes has serious potential.

Other from the Portuguese crew, Fernandez puts MacAllister on his pocket every day.

      Im Portuguese.

How do these 2 transfers look for me to active Bench Boost this week?

Andreas and Ward > Mitoma and De Gea

    Kepa (FUL)
Shaw (CPL, LEE) Tripper (WHU) Schar (WHU)
Almiron (WHU) KDB (tot) Martinelli (eve) Rashford (CPL, LEE)
Gnonto (nfo, mun) Kane (MCI) Haaland (tot)

De Gea (CPL, LEE) James (FUL) White (eve) Mitoma (BOU)

    1. Tonyawesome69

Your bench is going to be Kepa, James, Schar and likely Almiron. James will get limited mins at best in that game. Not worth using BB

    2. Arteta
      • 10 Years
      2 years, 10 months ago

I think that this could actually pay off. . There's still a big question mark over James's fitness, but if he's well and truly back, I'd seriously lean towards using Bench Boost.

2FT and at a bit of a loss, was tempted to WC to sort Arsenal/City/Newcastle assets (might TC Rashford if not WC)

    A) Cancelo Almiron Mitro to Burn Bruno Gnonto (-4)
    B) KDB Mitro to Bruno Nketiah
    C) Other - open to suggestions

    Kepa
    Trippier Shaw White
    KDB Rashford Martinelli Almiron
    Haaland Kane Mitro

    Ward Cancelo Andreas Bueno

Currently have Rashford (c) and Shaw

A KDB to Bruno (GW22) to KdB (GW23)

Which option would you prefer/thinks scores more, bearing in mind having to bench the Brighton player in GW23:

    A) Nketiah (eve) + KDB (tot, AVL, ars) + Bruno (lee) - benching Ferguson (cpa) in GW 23

    B) Kane (MCI) + Martinelli (eve) + Mahrez (AVL, ars) + Kane (lei) - benching Mitoma (cpa) in GW 23

Yeah it's a bit messy, but trying to decipher between two pathes to navigate the next couple of GWs. Just highlighting the playing differences between the two options. Think I prefer A too, it's basically a sell KDB or Kane approach but one has Mitoma as the 8th attacker which I don't like.

Results dependant of course but Leeds attack feels like a trap?

Sinisterra affects Gnonto minutes you’d think.

    Bamford will eat into Rodrigo.

Not sure they’re worth a punt?

I think Sinisterra will play on the right now to accommodate Gnonto at LW. Bamford won't start but may well eat 40mins or so of Rodrigo's gametime. Both are decent punts but I think its certainly fair to prioritise your Man Utd / City / Arsenal assets.

Absolutely a waste of a transfer

Free Hit is a waste this week unless desperate for some reason and that would be my only way of considering a leeds player (and im not using FH obviously).

Depends. If you're on a 3-5-2 Gnonto can be your 8th attacker and get u a double gameweek player in 22 and then an extra GW25 player if you have too many Newcastle, Brighton, United assets.

Hokey cokey could work. Assume you mean 1x-4 and not -4 both times? Don't think Bruno outscores KDB vs Spurs by much more than 8

Yep. Already getting Rashford with my only FT this week, so would have to take a hit to get Bruno too.

I wouldn't be a fan of this, as you'll likely want to sell KDB in GW24, where he probably won't start

    Is this worth a -4?

    A. KDB > Bruno / Odegaard
    B. Mitro > Nketiah

    Thanks

Yes if Bruno doubles and Mitro is injured

Too early to say imo, but I'd be disinclined to take a -4 for the Nketiah part of the equation. Mitrovic has some decent fixtures after Chelsea, so it depends on his fitness and which Arsenal players you currently hold. I'll be doing De Bruyne >Bruno and back again for the doubles though.

An option I haven't ruled out.

KDB, Mahrez and Stones vying for the 2nd and 3rd spot. Just depends how the blanks and doubles fall

Already have Mahrez and Haaland. Getting visions of the stones haul last season.

I had that vision the last double City had and he ended up being injured! I would prefer to go to a cheaper defender but it'll depend on the blanks

City not keeping a particularly sound back line, would expect them to concede against Arsenal, so is there real benefit compared to a SGW defender who is cheaper/more likely to have a clean sheet? Also does Dias and Laporte returns affect possible Stones minutes?

To add to that, most have got a couple of Arsenal attackers, so its a bit of a zero sum game if their returns are offset by blanks from your City defender

Need help! I'm in love with my team and can't decide who to bench.. benched players have been out scoring my selected players these past week.

Please help decide who to BENCH for

    Kepa, Ward
    Robertson, Shaw, Gabriel, White, Trippier,
    KDB, Rashford, Fernandes, Rodrigo, Martinelli,
    Haaland, Wilson, Ferguson.

Any thoughts on who I should bench?

This WC team is tempting me...
Don't know if I'll do it though, as a -4 could bring me some of the players this week as well.

    Ederson - Ward*
    Trippier* - Shaw* - Gabriel - Botman* - Bueno
    Rashford* - Saka - Rodrigo* - Bruno - Mitoma*
    Nketiah - Haaland* - Kane*

(* are the players I already own)

    What do you lot think?

Curious to see what others think here since I'm in quite a similar position, just beginning to think about WC - 6 changes to get Bruno, shuffle Arsenal players, get a bit ahead of the curve with a defender & GK who play in 25. Think it feels just slightly below the WC threshold, although any injuries in cup games might tip me over. If you have 2 FTs & can do 3 of these (ideally Bruno, Saka, Nketiah) for -4 I would hold the WC.

I'm finding it difficult to plan well up to GW25.

If all the doubles and expected blanks happen, United double in 22 but blank in 25. And Newcastle also blank in 25. Most people are going to have 5 or more of these players going into this week - x3 United, x2 Newcastle.

What's annoying is that you are highly incentivized to remove your 3rd United player after this week for a City or Arsenal one because they double AND United have an impending blank. The popular KdB > Bruno > KdB route is very unappealing to me. Because you'll essentially be paying 8 points to have Bruno for CPL/LEE over KdB's tot.

Doesn't mean I don't want Bruno. It does however mean that if I decide to do KdB > Bruno, I would give up on having KdB for the DGW in 23 and instead go for a City defender on a hit alongside Arsenal.

It would boil down to over the next two weeks:

    A) KdB, Burn, Odegaard in 23 +8
    B) Fernandes, Saka, Stones

Option B is down 8 points but has an extra Fernandes game in 22. I think the squad is in better shape after as well because I can replace Fernandes in GW25 easier than replacing Burn. That 8 point hit could be bad though if KdB finds form.

Any way to fund Fernandes without selling KDB? Think I'm going to do Kane & Almiron to Nketiah & Fernandes this GW.

That is an option too but I like Kane more than KdB.

He is one of the best performers this year and Spurs' fixtures are excellent after GW23. I'd rather lose KdB.

Fair point. I'll probably be looking to shoehorn Kane back in before GW25, at the latest, to replace Toney. Maybe I'm being too attracted to the DGWs for KDB and Fernandes and losing sight of my team going forward.

Another issue is that Brighton have some good fixtures coming up too and have good assets people could bring in but will likely blank too. Even Raya and Toney may be in people's teams.

Think it may be a GW with about 7 or 8 players average without heavy hit taking or use of chips.

        I don't think it'll be that low.

Shaw, Rashford, Fernandes, Almiron, Trippier and maybe 1 more player (extra Newcastle, Leeds, Brentford)

I think it'll be more like 9 or 10 pre transfers. So people will be able to field a team - maybe not a great one.

Kepa + 3x City and 3x Arsenal leaves you already on 7 so yeah probably a bit higher than 7-8

      2. Zimo
        • 7 Years

Hmm I'll probably have all 11 players without any hits. Rash Shaw Tripp on the bench and Mitoma back in in 26.

        Kepa
        White Bueno
        KDB Saka Odegaard
        Haaland Kane Gnonto

And the last defender and midfielder for whoever has the doubles in 25 probably. BenCrellin seems to think either Liverpool or Palace might get one depending on the Brighton Pool fa Cup match

Think we might just need to stomach having 8 or 9 players for GW25. We'll likely want United and Newcastle assets in the gameweeks around that so the upside of having the right players for say the 6 weeks around that outweigh having 11 for GW25.

Newcastle have Liverpool and Man City in GW24 & 26, so I plan to ditch Botman by then. Will bring a second Newcastle defender some point after that no doubt. Miggy is gone this week.
