We’ve put together our Scout Picks ‘bus team’ ahead of Double Gameweek 23 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL).

In this early selection, we select a first draft of our regular picks before they are finalised and published much closer to Saturday’s deadline.

We are limited to an £83.0m budget for our starting XI, while our bench is also price-capped after a reader vote.

In the meantime, this ‘bus team’ article – a term coined by the duo behind the Always Cheating podcast – will discuss the players who are likely to be in the running.

DOUBLE GAMEWEEK 23 FIXTURES

THE LIKELY LADS

FPL Gameweek 10 tips: Dance like no one's watching 1

Deciding on which Manchester City and Arsenal players to include is the biggest decision facing the Scout Squad panel this week.

The pair are, of course, the only teams who play twice in Double Gameweek 23.

In the blue corner, only Erling Haaland (£12.2m) feels completely nailed at this stage. The Norwegian failed to register a single effort on goal at Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday but has been in a class of his own for much of the season.

Who joins him, however, is up for discussion. Ederson (£5.4m) is the safest route into City’s backline, but his points ceiling perhaps feels a little low, given that 12 other goalkeepers have outscored him since the Premier League resumed after the World Cup. Nathan Ake (£5.1m) and Rico Lewis (£3.9m) are alternative options under consideration.

In midfield, the biggest question is undoubtedly Kevin De Bruyne (£12.4m) or Riyad Mahrez (£7.7m). The duo shared minutes at Spurs, with the Belgian playmaker staying rooted to the bench for almost an hour for ‘tactical’ reasons. Still, when he did come on he created more chances than any other player on the pitch. One theory is that Pep Guardiola prefers to use an additional forward when up against five-man defences. If that holds up, and it’s a big IF, we could potentially see De Bruyne play both Double Gameweek 23 matches, given that Aston Villa and Arsenal traditionally line up in 4-4-2/4-2-3-1 formations.

However, a potentially decisive factor in Mahrez’s favour is that by opting for the cheaper Algerian, we can in turn afford another premium, like Harry Kane (£11.7m). The record-breaking forward has thrived in the past against this weekend’s opponents, Leicester City, who happen to have conceded multiple goals in five of their six post-World Cup matches. If we can’t afford Kane, Dejan Kulusevski (£7.9m) is a cheaper alternative in the Spurs ranks.

Decisions, decisions… and we haven’t touched on Arsenal yet.

The Gunners also have question marks over key personnel, with Gabriel Martinelli (£6.7m) hauled off on 58 minutes at Goodison Park and Ben White (£4.7m) underwhelming of late.

That makes 90-minute man Gabriel Magalhaes (£5.2m) all the more appealing, with Bukayo Saka (£8.3m), Martin Odegaard (£7.0m) and Eddie Nketiah (£6.7m) potentially fighting it out for the other two starting spots.

Elsewhere, it’s hard to look past Kieran Trippier (£6.1m) and Marcus Rashford (£7.2m) barring injury, with visits to Bournemouth and Leeds United respectively.

Is White to Gabriel worth a free transfer this week or too sideways and roll it?

Slightly sideways but if you have no other transfers to make and you would enjoy having Gabriel in your team more then do it.

My team is below this. I am in doubt , I’d like to be ahead of a form curve this week instead of chasing points with Mitoma

Roll it, unless Gabriel scores a goal it’s not gonna be worth it. I see Ben white starting 1/2 atleast and the city game is a likely 1 pter for either defender unless random goal contribution.

Planning my transfers till gw25. Which combo would you prefer?

    A: James + Saka + Andreas
    B: Badshaile + Martenelli + Mahrez

B means an extra game with Mahrez but also means Martenelli/Mahrez who have game time risk

Brighton have good fixtures either side of the blank, so I don't mind having a Brighton mid - though I suppose Mitoma is actually the man in form more so than March.

Guys, how would you nawigate BGW25? 1Ft, 4,5 itb
    Ederson*, Ward
    Patterson, Bueno*, Shaw, Trippier, Schar
    Bruno, Rashford, Andreas*, Martinelli*, Almiron
    Mitrovic*, Kane*, Haaland*

I don't own any defenders for bgw25 (Bueno 50/50) and I'm short of Arsenal asset for this DGW. My plan is Almiron -->Saka (FT)
Is it worth to get Arsneal / City defender for (-4) this week?

    1. Lord of Ings
      • 10 Years
      2 years, 11 months ago

Not needed, assess defensive options next week.

      1. donbagino
        • 5 Years
        2 years, 11 months ago

I mean, I will need to take a couple of hits anyway. After I do Almiron-->Saka my team would consist of 6 md/fw and 1 GW.
It's a question of: "do it now as we have dgw" or "do it later"

      2 years, 11 months ago

Similar to you got 6/7 blanks for 25.
I wanted Mitoma but that’s another blank.
Reckon I might get rid of two this week Bruno & Toney > KDB/Mahrez > Johnson/Felix

    3. House Frey Wedding Planner
      • 7 Years

Think it's worth the -4 bringing in an Arsenal defender as the extra games in 23 and 25 will pay the hit off and is probably a better move long term.

This is my plan this week. I have no Def for bgw 25 at the moment so will get 1 ars and 1 city for a -4. I'd love to do Martinelli - Saka, but not worth another hit imo.

    Trippier - Akanji - Shaw - Saliba

GW23 - Bruno to Saka and Almiron to Mahrez for a -4

KDB has been a frustrating own for me. Would probably trust Bruno's guaranteed starts for the next 2, form and penalties over KDB who though has an extra game, hasn't been in great form and has been out of the team more than in the team.

Almiron to Mahrez is the better move as you'll get the extra game there plus Almiron has been cold since the restart.

    Morning,

    Thoughts on grealish for gw23?

Seems to be about kdb or mahrez....

I have mahrez and am looking at grealish over kdb

Grealish fpl returns few and far between. KdB poor recent history. DGW madness with one difficult fixture.

        Agree it is madness.

But city have 2 games vs united one. Then united blank so in essence city have 2 more games above united in next 5 gw

Not necessarily 5 starts for anyone once you factor in UCL & rotation

Must admit even the city dgw does not inspire me at all .
Think I’m set 0 Ft I’ve brought in Nkeitah for the injured and useless solanke which made perfect sense . I don’t know why I’m sticking with salah though

    Rams
    Trip , shaw , badiashile , mee
    Salah , odegard , rashford
    Nkeitah, Kane , Haaland (c)

Ward , March , almiron , Li Martinez

I'd probably keep hold of salah until after gw 25 as many people (including me) will have blank players like bruno, rash. Salah could be a nice differential if liverpool sort themselves out!

Agree with your thoughts. Team needs tidying up though - not starting Mee at Arsenal over any 3 of those currently sitting on your bench, right? You could actaully bench Salah & play 343 with Almiron & March if you wanted. I would definitely start March here

        Yes all ideas welcome
My bench looks like it will hurt me this week I defo thinking March to Mee

    A. Mudryk to Mahrez (-4)
    B. Andreas to Mahrez(-4) and bench Mudryk.
    C. No hit

Selling Mudryk makes little sense, you got him in for a reason give him a couple of games atleast.

I’m genuinely surprised the amount of people who are looking at swapping out Bruno for a city player due to dgw . Bruno to me looks like he’ll score more points v Leeds than kdb or grealish or mahrez in 2 games . The city players prob will only play 1 of the 2 games anyway and maybe not even a full 90 mins. I’m not sold at all on that idea .

Youre probably right. I don't have bruno, but have kdb. If I had brought in Bruno for kdb last week I'd stick with bruno. I guess people are also trying to get ahead on blank 25

I can certainly see Bruno out scoring man city MIDs, but yeah, I think part of it is people are also prepping for BGW25.

    3. bench boost for every gamew…

Bruno got Leeds and blank. City mid in theory get 3 games. But Arsenal is tough yes. But Pep needs to win this so i like to gamble on the outcome of that game to be more open than the previous ones between the sides.
Villa home and a good fix on paper in 25.

No, for free maybe but with hit that's not enough upside. Nket plays City in one of the 23double. If you strongly believe city and ake gets double cs and Arsenal concede in both then i would. Sounds unlikely to me. And White more nailed than Ake

    1ft and 2.6itb

    EDERSON
    GABRIEL Botman Trippier Shaw
    ODEGAARD MARTINELLI Rashford Fernandes
    HAALAND Kane

    Ward; Bueno, Ferguson*, Rodrigo

    A. Martinelli and Fernandes -> Saka and Mahrez (-4)
    B. Fernandes -> KDB
    C. Rodrigo -> Mahrez

Is it just me, but ......... In recent times the new article content of this site has begun to reduce significantly. In the "good old days" we would get plenty of new articles to read with good informative info. However, a lot of what would perhaps be good content is now just links to podcasts and the like. I do not have either time or inclination to watch these podcasts and so just find myself skimming to relevant images of team structures etc.
I will seriously need to consider paying further for membership next year.
Such a shame and waste of previous hard work and input by those who have gone before.

I think they definitely rely on posters to open up debate, I remember ‘the good old days’ where those writing the articles would also post, seems like that’s only Neale these days

      Hey, Tom here.

Since the start of last week I've outlined everything we've run on-site below. In that time, I think we've linked to one podcast/video, which was Pras and Andy's DGW22 members' stream. However, if you think something is missing or just want to see more of a specific type of article, please let me know and I'll absolutely look into it.

That’s certainly quite a lot of content, I think sometimes however certain articles stay in place for along time (like this one) whilst others zip by before you even get a chance to comment. I don’t mind though I don’t pay for anything and so am in no position to moan!

Not at all, I always appreciate feedback, regardless of whether or not you are a member.

The pace does admittedly tend to be slower earlier in the week, then speed up the closer we get to deadline, but a lot of the articles have to run then unfortunately.

Thinking of going with Bueno to Ake leaving me with this team

    DDG
    Trippier Shaw White Ake
    KDB Martinelli Mitoma Rashford Odegaard
    Haaland Kane

    Ward Shaw Botman Mbeumo

What to do with 2nd trade

A)DDG to Kepa(will probably leave this til next week)
B)Mbeumo to Greenwood to free up cash
    C)Hold the trade

Guys. Would you hold your TC Chip or play it on Haaland this wknd....I dont believe there wont be a better fixture mix for most other good players .....however its Haaland

    1. space mercenary
      • 6 Years

Very tempting. By the latter gws City could be out of the running and Haaland is the only goal machine at the moment without Salah firing. He does have an injury record too.

You don't think there's better DGW fixtures than AVL ars? Haaland will probably have 2 more doubles to pick from & I'm pretty confident they'll look better than this

I'm saving mine. City just don't have a good rhythm at the moment. Assuming they keep progressing in the FA Cup, WHU & bha will be postponed, and its very likely one of those will be added to Fulham (A) in GW34
