Sergio Aguero runs amok as Man City see off a Malaysia XI 3-1. A dazzling solo goal and a couple of assists served Fantasy managers a devastating reminder of his current form, with Carlos Tevez and Adam Johnson also finding the net. Scans reveal Gareth Bale looks to have escaped serious injury after Charlie Adam’s challenge in Spurs’ friendly with Liverpool last Saturday:

Malaysia XI 1 Man City 3
After Vincent Kompany flew home on Sunday to be treated for a calf problem, Roberto Mancini reshuffled his defensive options for yesterday’s match with a Malaysia XI. City kept faith in their new 3-5-2 formation once again and, with Pablo Zabaleta slotting into the back-three – Adam Johnson was handed a rare starting role on the right flank, Yaya Toure maintained his attacking central midfield role, while Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez started up front once again.

As City’s fitness increases with every passing game, Aguero’s influence continues to grow. Yesterday, he produced a masterclass and played a part in all three of his side’s goals – a clear indication of his menace ahead of the new season. Within the first 10 minutes he had a goal disallowed for offside and also hit the bar before a fantastic solo effort opened the scoring on 17 minutes; dancing round four opposition defenders, the Argentine found the net after executing a deft chip over the keeper to grab his second in the past three games.

City went in at the break one up but Aguero then turned creator just three minutes into the second-half, teeing up Tevez for the second. Only four minutes later, the former Atletico Madrid was at it again – this time a superb chip found Johnson inside the box and the winger wrong-footed the keeper to notch City’s third. Roberto Mancini made six changes as the game progressed and, much to the home side’s relief, withdrew Aguero after 70 minutes; the hosts’ late consolation failed to take the shine off a strong display from the Premier League champions, who have now won three in a row and conceded a single goal in their last four matches.

Post-match, Mancini revealed that Kompany’s calf problem is “nothing seriousâ€, while going on to praise the performances of his front pair ahead of the new season, saying:

We were confident two weeks ago and I’m even more confident today. Sergio played very well and his partnership with Carlos has continued from last season. They scored a goal each today which is good. Hopefully we can continue his good form in the coming season.

Man City Starting XI: Pantilimon (Johansen 75); Savic, K Toure (Boyata 76), Zabaleta; A Johnson, Razak, Y Toure (Scapuzzi 58), Suarez (Evans 64) , Kolarov; Tevez (Mancini 76), Aguero (Lopes 70)

In Other News…
Reports in the Mail suggest Gareth Bale has escaped serious injury after Charlie Adam’s tackle in Spurs’ goalless draw with Liverpool on Saturday. The Welshman has returned to light training after scans allayed fears of a possible lengthy absence ahead of the new season – Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas played down the suggestion of the matter being reported to the FA but once again called for Adam to make an apology:

Needless to say, we are extremely relieved Gareth has not been seriously injured. There is previous history between the two players on the challenge that was done I think three years ago. Will we take it any further? We are discussing it within the club but in my opinion, the matter is dealt. But it would be extremely human for Charlie to come out with an apology. But you can’t force people to say anything and we will have to wait and see.

Please could I have a RMT.

    GW1:
    Federici
    A Cole Lescott Ivanovic
    Bale Yaya Mata Sinclair
    Torres Bent Petric

Subs: Friedel Al Ahmadi Cuellar McCartney

Strategy: Look to swap out Ivanovic/Cole for a second Citeh defender in GW3 once we've got a better idea of Mancini's line up.
Concern: lack of Man U coverage

    Thoughts? Suggestions welcome?

Agreed, but with so much uncertainty in the big hitter catergory (Man City forward rotation, Rooney playing deep, RVP etc) I am thining there are better options in the mid price catergory, which opens up more investment options at the back

I am inclined to have Dyer for start, I have Hazard and Bale as my mid, so my defence looks worse than yours. Hazard--->Utd mid by GW3 and use spare on Dyer is my plan.

the thing that worries me is whether Hazard will play both chelsea games. they have a wealth of talent in midfield, and may use the start of the season to try a couple of combinations?

But then it is going to be hard to have any chelsea midfielder... and in my opinion they will want to play Hazard to show what they have bought to the fans for the big price tag, and see how he plays with everyone in my opinion.

I think triple Swansea is a bit too mental. If it turns out that they don't respond to the Laudrup treatment it will cost you to get rid of them all. They're well worth a punt, especially with their nice fixtures but two at most IMO

Didn't need to for most of the season last year. Can see him maybe playing a few CL games and some other stuff or during a very hectic period there could be some rotation but I don't think Fergie is going to let DDG slip to second choice.

17-18 mill keeper who was the first choice Athletico Madrid keeper when he was 19-20. Nothing against Anders, I like him but he's not got nearly the potential or record that DDG has.

But Ferguson did exactly that 8 times in the league last season and would almost certainly have been more if Lindegaard hadn't picked up an injury.

I'm not sure anyone's disputing DDG will be first choice, but those who think he won't be warming the bench some of the time are heading for a fall...

That was during DDG's shakey period though, he no doubt took time to adjust. The rest of the season he continually improved. Can see Lindegaard playing in hectic periods and in other competitions but any match that DDG can play over Lindegaard without risk to fatigue or anything like that I reckon he'll play.

All conjecture but I reckon Lindegaard will get some of the easier home fixtures causing much wailing and gnashing of teeth round these parts, and for that reason, I'm out!

DDG's form towards the end of last season was exceptional. With a little more experience he will be one of the worlds top keepers for the next 10 years.

I feel Lindegaard will be the new Kuszczak. Always good enough but number 2

Just to be clear, I think DDG is a very good goalkeeper is indisputably Man Utd's first choice and quite possibly will be great.

I also think Lindegaard will be given half a dozen league games and some cup appearances every season as Ferguson seems to like resting his 'keepers now and again.

4-4-2 or 3-5-2, either way still allows for two wingers on the forwards. Don't see why Nasri would be left cold again after his end of season performance and his good form in the Euros.

Although I think swap Nasri and Silva on your formation, dont they play on the opposites side

I'm still unsure about Friedel though. The spurs fixtures are great but if AVB plays his high line again then spurs will leak in goals..

a lot of Clichy loving going on. Does no else see Lolarov taking 10 starts away from him and we have no clue which 10 so you can't plan for it.

Which is why I've gone for Lescott. Worth the extra 0.5m. Unless the Agger bid comes to fruition.

Thats why the 3 cheapy backups like Cuellar/Hughes/McCartney/Fabio are there. Play Clichy every week and if he doesnt play then auto sub comes in no harm done.

Chelsea midfield really starting to pack in the talent, I assume Lampard is already throwing his toys out of his pram? Will they stand by RDM when Lamps starts to throw another tantrum?

Lamps will start deeper. Not a promising fantasy prospect this season, IMO.

What is the situation with Nasri? He's not at the Olympics but hasn't featured in any of City's pre-season matches. Is he injured?

Green over Federici to cover Spurs poor fixtures better. Rest looks good. Would look into downgrading Lescott + upgrading Fonte.
