Sergio Aguero runs amok as Man City see off a Malaysia XI 3-1. A dazzling solo goal and a couple of assists served Fantasy managers a devastating reminder of his current form, with Carlos Tevez and Adam Johnson also finding the net. Scans reveal Gareth Bale looks to have escaped serious injury after Charlie Adam’s challenge in Spurs’ friendly with Liverpool last Saturday:

Malaysia XI 1 Man City 3
After Vincent Kompany flew home on Sunday to be treated for a calf problem, Roberto Mancini reshuffled his defensive options for yesterday’s match with a Malaysia XI. City kept faith in their new 3-5-2 formation once again and, with Pablo Zabaleta slotting into the back-three – Adam Johnson was handed a rare starting role on the right flank, Yaya Toure maintained his attacking central midfield role, while Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez started up front once again.

As City’s fitness increases with every passing game, Aguero’s influence continues to grow. Yesterday, he produced a masterclass and played a part in all three of his side’s goals – a clear indication of his menace ahead of the new season. Within the first 10 minutes he had a goal disallowed for offside and also hit the bar before a fantastic solo effort opened the scoring on 17 minutes; dancing round four opposition defenders, the Argentine found the net after executing a deft chip over the keeper to grab his second in the past three games.

City went in at the break one up but Aguero then turned creator just three minutes into the second-half, teeing up Tevez for the second. Only four minutes later, the former Atletico Madrid was at it again – this time a superb chip found Johnson inside the box and the winger wrong-footed the keeper to notch City’s third. Roberto Mancini made six changes as the game progressed and, much to the home side’s relief, withdrew Aguero after 70 minutes; the hosts’ late consolation failed to take the shine off a strong display from the Premier League champions, who have now won three in a row and conceded a single goal in their last four matches.

Post-match, Mancini revealed that Kompany’s calf problem is “nothing serious”, while going on to praise the performances of his front pair ahead of the new season, saying:

We were confident two weeks ago and I’m even more confident today. Sergio played very well and his partnership with Carlos has continued from last season. They scored a goal each today which is good. Hopefully we can continue his good form in the coming season.

Man City Starting XI: Pantilimon (Johansen 75); Savic, K Toure (Boyata 76), Zabaleta; A Johnson, Razak, Y Toure (Scapuzzi 58), Suarez (Evans 64) , Kolarov; Tevez (Mancini 76), Aguero (Lopes 70)

In Other News…
Reports in the Mail suggest Gareth Bale has escaped serious injury after Charlie Adam’s tackle in Spurs’ goalless draw with Liverpool on Saturday. The Welshman has returned to light training after scans allayed fears of a possible lengthy absence ahead of the new season – Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas played down the suggestion of the matter being reported to the FA but once again called for Adam to make an apology:

Needless to say, we are extremely relieved Gareth has not been seriously injured. There is previous history between the two players on the challenge that was done I think three years ago. Will we take it any further? We are discussing it within the club but in my opinion, the matter is dealt. But it would be extremely human for Charlie to come out with an apology. But you can’t force people to say anything and we will have to wait and see.

Pundits for FPL - I have a number of questions for you. Please indulge, I would be grateful.

1). Is Phil Jones likely to start for Utd? Nailed on?

2). Is Raphael likely to start for Utd? Nailed on?

3). Is there any keeper who is guaranteed to start for 4m?

4). This is a big ask but can you please tell me which other players are OOP? Currently have Sess, Fabio, Maloney

5). Lastly, anyone know when the FPL player trading game is going to start / any updates?

Maybe the first couple of games given the injury worries. But he's our 5th choice CB and 3rd choice RB so not nailed on at all.

Yes, he's first choice. Should start more than his fair share, but not nailed on.

He's played already and scored. I think he's a great pick but I've recently heard that they're looking for another CB which might impact his gametime. A situation to monitor, I guess.

We were looking at Douglas but that's all but dead in the water now I think, no other CBs on the radar atm. Main place we're looking to strengthen is RB. If Taylor is fit, he'll start.

I douybt he'll be OOP. People thought he might be playing right mid cause he played one friendly there, but with the purchase of people like Park and Hoilett I doubt he'll get anywhere near the midfield. Most likely start at LB/RB.

I have Torres and Mata. I feel Torres might go well this year too. There was a lot of pressure on him at the start of the last season, now there is more limelight on Hazard, Oscar and Marin. Only concern for me is that I feel Chelsea might be playing a 4-2-3-1 to fit all their midfielders in, which means it's Sturridge vs Torres for that last spot. Could pull up one or two surprises

So I've set up a tournament for FPL which I'd love for you all to be involved in. Soon, my friend, soon.

Don't worry, I've got it all planned out. I don't want to reveal anything yet because it's dependent on numbers and if enough managers don't join then I'll have to tweak it a little.

Sent this RMT before bed last night but didnt get much reaction - I think it's so good it's PURE EVIL

    Federici (Jaskeleinen GW2+3)
A Cole Mariappa McCartney (Kaboul GW2+3) (Cueller GW2+3)
Hazard Nolan Lampard Guthrie (Maloney GW2+3)
    Tevez Rooney Aguero

    GW3 = 2 Transfers: Lampard+Cole > Kagawa+Vidic

Hopefully score heavily in GW1-3 and maybe play my wild card for GW4, taking advantage of the international break to makie money from prices rises

Who would you start out of N'Zogbia and Noble for GW1? Ideally I want to start N'Zogbia as I think he'll do well early on in the season but would it be a waste to have Noble at home and not play him, even if he is my cheap mid?

It's making me tempted to do Noble -> Maloney, just because I find it easier to bench him!

I have the same problem, but I asked for advice last night and most people said to play Noble, as they thought West Ham would win. I then checked the FFS ticker and saw that West Ham's opponent is easier than Villa's. So, at the minute, I have Noble in.

Is it getting very hot underneath when playing it? If so, make sure you're playing it with the laptop on a desk/table and not on something like a bed or on your lap with a cushion as that stops the airflow and causes it to overheat, which then causes it to switch off.

Yeah possibly, might be some sort of incompatibility causing the graphics driver to fall over or the graphics card on the laptop might not be good enough to run the game..

If it has a dedicated graphics card, have you made sure you've got the latest driver from nVidia/Ati for it?

Yeah it's almost definitely an overheating problem either there's a mechanical failure with fan (if you can't hear it spinning it's this) or more likely it's clogged with dust and it needs taking apart and cleaning.

Hughes loves stockpiling strikers. I can understand with players like Mackie and Helguson who were there anyway - even Zamora when they didn't know if they were going to stay up, but signing Andy Johnson this window was flipping mental.

Mark Hughes is a joker. And a pony Manager. Ive seen nothing to justify all this hype he gets. He failed at blackburn and fulham couldn't do it at Man City and just beat the drop with QPR.

      What an idiot.

    How much is Berba?
and would you get him if he went to QPR?
I sense a bandwagon coming on.

Berba would be first name on the teamsheet then. Absolutely love that man. I wish he goes to another club in the premiership. Just get to see more of him 😀

Nah, Aguero will be number 1 for Mancini. I'm not sure Tevez will play the full 90 mins of a game for a while.

    Can anyone fault this?

See it as balanced more than anything.

    De Gea / Begovic

    Fabio / Rafael / Clichy / Demel / A.Cole

    YaYa / Bale / Mclean / Ramires / Kagawa

    Tevez / Petric / Bent
