Scout Picks - Bus Team

We’ve put together our Scout Picks ‘bus team’ ahead of Double Gameweek 27 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL).

In this early selection, we select a first draft of our regular picks before they are finalised and published much closer to Saturday’s deadline.

We are limited to an £83.0m budget for our starting XI, while our bench is also price-capped after a reader vote.

In the meantime, this ‘bus team’ article – a term coined by the duo behind the Always Cheating podcast – will discuss the players who are likely to be in the running.

DOUBLE GAMEWEEK 27 FIXTURES

Times given in GMT

THE LIKELY LADS

FPL Gameweek 15 differentials: Estupinan among three budget picks

We start with Brighton and Hove Albion and Brentford, both of whom ‘double’ in Gameweek 27.

Roberto De Zerbi’s troops are averaging 2.2 goals per game since the World Cup, a period that has seen them take 17 points from 27. With three clean sheets in their last six matches, all at the Amex, Pervis Estupinan (£4.8m) will surely be a popular pick among the Scout Squad panel. The flying full-back has five assists across the season, more than any other FPL defender bar Andrew Robertson (£6.8m). Jason Steele (£3.9m) and Lewis Dunk (£4.7m) could potentially be in the mix, too.

Albion produced a swaggering attacking display against West Ham United on Saturday, with two of their attacking midfield trio included here. Karou Mitoma (£5.4) and Alexis Mac Allister (£5.4m) both served up double-digit hauls, leaving Solly March (£5.1m) owners empty-handed. Still, the latter impressed, assisting the assister on two occasions whilst also missing a decent opportunity himself. So, it remains unclear which two will get the nod later this week.

As for Brentford, they are in fine form too, with their unbeaten run now stretching to 12 matches.

With appealing trips to Everton and Southampton to come, both of whom are among the division’s lowest scorers at home, David Raya (£4.8m), Ben Mee (£5.1m), Rico Henry (£4.5m) and Ethan Pinnock (£4.4m) are all appealing. The former perhaps edges it, given that he has made at least seven more saves than any other FPL goalkeeper in 2022/23.

Further forward, options are a bit more limited, with Ivan Toney (£7.7m) the star attraction. The England centre-forward has an eye-catching 17 attacking returns in 21 starts this season, with five of those arriving in his last four away matches.

Moving on from Brighton and Brentford, Gameweek 27 is all about some juicy-looking fixtures for teams near the top of the table. Both Manchester clubs, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur all face sides ranked 12th or below, while Liverpool visit a Bournemouth outfit who have struggled defensively all season.

As a result, leaving any of Mohamed Salah (£12.7m), Erling Haaland (£12.2m), Harry Kane (£11.7m), Marcus Rashford (£7.3m) and Kieran Trippier (£6.0m) out is a particularly scary prospect, which is why we’ve crammed them all into our ‘bus team’, even if it leaves us short in other areas.

      Smooth: dodged WC pressure once realised 4 transfers away from decent GW29 BB (allowing for one hit and FH 28). So kept Salah and this week’s transfer Mahrez to MacAllister.

    17. elwardio
      • 14 Years

      Rough start: Mahrez unused sub, Nketiah not in squad, Bueno out, White on the bench and (my free transfer in) Sanchez dropped for first time all season.

      Smooth finish: White on at half time to bag a goal, Danny Ward came off my bench for penalty save and max bonus, Darwin and Salah differentials ran riot, unexpected Trent clean sheet… 83 (0)

      Disastrous start turned into biggest green arrow ever, 81% lift from 32k to 6k.

      Top it off with a win for the Villa courtesy of Palace’s red card, marginal VAR disallowed goal and an own goal. Gutted I didn’t buy a lottery ticket.

      Kept Salah on wc and still did not get more than 200k green arrow. Felt like I was one if very few that kept him on Wc. The rough is that whatever good moves i make, one bad punishes. Mitoma/Mac.

      Rough start to my WC team:
      - My pre-WC team would have scored 82 points this GW without captaincy points included.
      - My WC team scored 45 points with captaincy points included.
      - I also benched Mitoma and played March.

      Smooth - Kept Salah, Mitoma, Ederson CS at last. Decent green arrow.

      Rough - Benching TAA and selling Robbo, triple Arsenal blank incl capt Saka.

      Routh: Disaster continues. The previous gameweek, I thought the deadline was Saturday, and by chance, tried to make the following changes one minute after the actual deadline on Friday:

      From: Patterson + KDB + Mahrez + Nketiah(c)
      To: Robertson + Gakpo + Salah(c) + Nketiah - 8pts

      This cost 17pts after hits, but could easily have been a lot more.

      Well, the 'a lot more' came this gameweek, as Robertson, Gakpo and Salah got 44pts between them, while I was stuck with KDB, new recruit Saka (for Mahrez) and Trippier/Gabriel in my XI, who got only 6 points between them by comparison.

      So, all in all, assuming I wouldn't have captained Salah, and depending on who I benched for Robertson, if anyone, that missed deadline has cost me about 47-55 points in two GWs.

      Smooth: Ward/Iversen dividend pays out a penalty save

      Smooth ; 48 points and moved back up 5k to 211k OR. Mostly due to Salah and Andreas subbing on with 8 handy points for Neketiah. Also got at least something out of Haaland(c).

      Rough ; 8 non returning players! At least I was hit free and having the top scorer of the week dug me out of trouble I think.

    Which seems better?

    A: Nketiah + Maddison -> Toney + Martinelli (-4)
    B: Nketiah -> Mbeumo

    *can get to 11 in 28 with a -4. Will FH in 29.

    Just came up with another option.

    Which seems better out of these now?

    A: Nketiah -> Mbeumo
    B: Nketiah + Maddison -> Toney + Martinelli (-4)
    C: Nketiah + TAA -> Toney + Dier (-4)

    *Can get 11 in 28 for a hit if A and B, for FT if B
    * Will FH in 29

    None too shabby. Have 8/11 here so must be doing something right for once.

    Raya (Ederson)
    Pinnock Estu TAA
    Saka Ode Rash Martinelli Mitoma
    Watkins Haaland Toney

    Whom will you bench here?

    Also any -4 worth? Or keep as it is?

      Same dilemma. I am leaning towards Watkin but Fulham aren't a team who will pack the bus and without Palhinha, they are less solid and more open. Also have Martinelli and Saka so don't want to put all eggs on one basket.

        Makes sense for you to bench ode then. I have saka and zinchenko so double ars attack could work better.

          Yeah. Heard though that Villa were flat vs Palace hence not sure if its worth starting Watkins. He missed a one on one though Watkins.

    Who’ll score higher in 27:

    A) Steele + Ode
    B) Toney + Kepa

    Is b the obvious answer? Am I overthinking it?

    Saka + Greenwood > Martinelli + Toney (-4) worth it?
    Will have to bench Marti or Odegaard

      All I know is that is not good to buy a player and then immediately bench him

      Good team. Are you bench boosting? I'd possibly bench boost with a team like that unless you have plans for DGW29.

        Nah, accidently used that chip in gw1 for a massive haul of 4 points. Didn't even realize I had clicked on it till I checked my score lol. Basically playing this season with one chip less.

    1ft and 4.4itb

    Pickford
    Trippier Botman Gabriel
    Salah Rashford Saka Mitoma*
    Haaland Toney* Ferguson*

    Ward; Odegaard, Tarkowski, Bueno

    A. Pickford -> Raya
    B. Pickford, Bueno -> Raya, Henry (-4). Would then bench Botman but they have a decent fixture (WOL)
