West Ham United are 18th in the table, a point from safety, having won just two of their last 14 Premier League games.

However, the Hammers are one of only two sides who not only ‘double’ in Gameweeks 29 and 34, but also have a fixture in Blank Gameweek 32. That means they play eight times in the next six Gameweeks.

With West Ham players under consideration for many Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers, we look at the underlying numbers.

TEAM DATA

WEST HAM: ATTACK
Total (rank)
Goals24 (15th)
xG34.87 (11th)
xG delta-10.87 (20th)
Mins per xG71.2 (9th)

West Ham have regressed this season following back-to-back finishes of sixth and seventh, but the data suggests they have maybe been a little unfortunate.

The Hammers are badly underperforming on expected goals (xG), with 24 from 34.87 xG. That means no top-flight side has underachieved more in front of goal this season, with wasteful finishing regularly letting them down.

WEST HAM: DEFENCE
Total (rank)
Clean sheets5 (18th=)
Goals conceded34 (7th=)
xGC32.05 (5th)
xGC delta+1.95 (7th)
Mins per xGC77.4 (6th)

Defensively, West Ham have managed to keep just five clean sheets from their 26 league outings, fewer than any other side bar Southampton (four).

However, they rarely get blown away and rank as high as fifth for expected goals conceded (xGC) and sixth for minutes per xGC, again suggesting they have been a bit unlucky not to record more shutouts.

WEST HAM: HOME MATCHES ONLY
Total (rank)
Goals17 (13th)
xG19.95 (10th)
Mins per xG62.2 (9th)
Clean sheets4 (13th=)
Goals conceded14 (7th=)
xGC14.59 (8th)
Mins per xGC85.1 (8th)

If the Hammers were able to play every game at home, they probably wouldn’t be in this mess, which is important for FPL managers, given that both of their Double Gameweek 29 fixtures are at the London Stadium.

David Moyes’ troops have only one win on the road all season and no team has a lower total of six points gained, but they are far better on home turf, with five wins and three draws from 13.

It’s also worth noting they have registered above 2.0 xG in three of their last four home matches, a significant improvement. The two most recent outings, v Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest, has seen David Moyes deploy a more attacking 4-2-3-1/4-3-3 formation, with Lucas Paqueta (£5.9m) becoming more influential in the attacking third.

With 8 (9 with Toney, but will most likely be Haaland in GW 30) players already for BGW 32, worth saving FH?

Neto or Martinez for second keeper on BB? Been keen on Neto but Martinez has had a few good weeks with 3 clean sheets in 4 (mind they were against Everton, Bournemouth and Palace) but the DGW fixtures aren't ideal. Neto has 2 home fixtures this week and I like his run towards the end of the season

I have the same lingering doubt over Villa defence. Its quite hard to gauge their true level at the moment - somewhere in between how wide open they looked v Arsenal, City, Leicestee, Leeds, and the grinding out of CS against the weak attacks you mention. I wasn't too sure about Bournemouth's fixtures either, but the Mitro & Willian RCs give a glimmer of hope there. So Neto / Navas would probably be the pick of the DGW keepers for me (besides Raya/Steele/Kepa)

Botman was just ill, seemed to be something going around the Dutch camp, pictured back in training for Newcastle already. Rashford trained this week away from the rest of the squad so we'll have to see about him

If people are thinking of bringing in Salah either this week or after of 31, how will you fit him in?
Haaland and Bruno are locks for the rest of the season, I think.
So, the only way I can do it is by losing Saka and having Ferguson as my 3rd Brighton, along with a few hits along the way.

    1. The Mentaculus
      • 4 Years

Are you trying to keep Kane? I won't buy Salah as soon as 31 I don't think (have FH32) but have looked at some GW34 projected teams & its not hard for me to fit him like this:
      Raya
      Trippier Shaw Estupinan
      Salah Rashford Mitoma March Saka/Bruno/Foden
      Haaland Darwin
      (Leno, Isak, Chilwell, James)

      1. waltzingmatildas
        • 15 Years

        No, don't have Kane.
That's interesting, I think it's having to choose between Bruno and Saka really. I have them both this week but I guess I'm trying to decide which route to go down:
        A) Nacho to Ferguson
        B) Odegaard to Mac Allister

        1. The Mentaculus
          • 4 Years
          2 years, 8 months ago

I'm leaving a lot of money on the bench in the example above, so if you had someone like Ferguson & a proper cheap 5th defender you could maybe accommodate Saka & Bruno in place of one of the BHA mids?

I like both the moves you're suggesting - slight preference for Mac over Fergie but the latter could be a key enabler for you & I do think Iheanacho probably has to go (selling him this week myself)

Didn't realise my TV is so good! Just checked again & I'm 2m short of Isak & March - Ferguson & Bruno (from the team above) so it seems viable with 1-2 cheaper defenders

Playing H2H league and next GW is in the bag regardless as my rival doesn't have a BB.

Therefore the Leeds game doesn't matter for me when it comes to selling Saka and Martinelli.

Without the Leeds game is it now more desirable to do
    A) Saka to Bruno
    And
    B) Martinelli to Mac Allister

Or would people still stick with the Arsenal lads over the fixtures boys

I assist a lot on this page, I'd be on 3BAPS most weeks with my assistance levels. So, I would like a minimum of 3 comments on this post. Minimum.

Which option looks the sexiest in regards to points, not looks?

    1) Tarky, Ode and Toney to Dunk, Fernandes and Ferguson
    2) Tarky, Ode and White to Dunk, March and Shaw

Have DDG and Rashford so only 1 free United spot.

None of them have too much appeal in the looks department except Toney, so no distractions there...

I prefer 2. Toney has a much higher ceiling than White, and I actually prefer March to Bruno for this week even if they were the same price

Not crazy on any of these.
Ode has potential to match the DGW players in this game. Ferguson a bit fresh, the defenders Dunk/Tark pretty much even, apart from DGW. United weaker without Casimero.

Time to start thinking about FPL again. Enjoyed this time off...

    What options look best?

    Kepa Raya
    Trippier Chilwell Estupinan Henry Zinchenko
    Rashford Saka Martinelli Mitoma MacAllister
    Kane Watkins Toney

I have 2 FTs for this week.

Henry > Shaw (I'm like 99% sure to be doing this)

    A) Roll FT
    B) Martinelli > Maddison (leaves funds for Toney > Haaland in 30)
    C) Martinelli > Fernandes

I’m just confident Arsenal players score well this week.

GW27 DGW - Arsenal players were top 2 point scorers. Don’t necessarily expect the same again but I’m happy having Martinelli over Bruno.

It could absolutely work for you particularly if you FH32.

For what it’s worth I don’t expect to buy Bruno this season. I don’t think he’s one of my preferred 5 mids for any given GW. I’m happy to stick with Martinelli this week and come 34 I’d expect there to be a City mid I’d prefer.

I think I'd still back Maddison to be the top scorer here over the next few weeks. Some doubts are creeping in for sure (originally wanted to captain him but have scrapped that) but he still has a monster haul in him if Leicester can click in some of these easier fixtures. It is sort of booking in a transfer as he'll likely have to make way by 34, but I think Bruno can wait

I do think Maddison will serve us well for 29 & 30 but I’d be looking to move him on for Bruno or Salah in 31. Fixtures aren’t great after 30 and I think Maddy is a sell after that

I think you might be right. Points now definitely looks like Maddison is a better bet than Bruno. But it would only really be for 2 weeks. Maybe the short term play is correct though. In GW31 I imagine I'll be looking at Foden/Mahrez, Gakpo.

I'm in an almost identical situation and also sold on Henry -> Shaw for one of my FTs and also debating B vs. C! I want to go for Fernandes but does mean taking a hit to get Haaland back for Toney (or Watkins). But like most BBers, I'll have too much tied up on my bench after the DGW.

I'm kind of hoping Haaland is crocked and that I can go Fernandes and get Haaland back in afterwards without a hit.

What would you do here? 2 FTs, 5.2M ITB and planning to use my BB.

    DDG Raya
    Trippier Botman Chilwell Estupinan Henry
Rashford Mac Allister March Maddison Saka
    Havertz Toney Kane

I was thinking Saka & Toney > Fernandes & Isak. Planning to FH32 so not very concerned with losing Arsenal for DGWers. Toney > Isak would need to happen to be able to afford Havertz > Haaland in 30.

Looks like a solid plan. Toney will be going for everyone as soon as that next YC comes along.

BB already used, looking to plan for 32 over the next few weeks.

    Kepa Raya
    Trippier Mings Estupinan Henry Gabriel
    Maddison Rashford Saka Mitoma Martinelli
    Haaland Toney Kane

    Current dgw29 set up;

    Kepa
    Trippier Estupinan Gabriel Henry
    Maddison Rashford Mitoma Saka
    Kane Toney

    Raya Haaland Mings Martinelli

Waiting to see what the Haaland situation is...if he's fit then he'll be included at the expense of Henry.

Happy to take a -4 this week if it suits the long term...

Harrison a good punt for the double? Home vs Forest a real chance for haul, and anything at Arsenal beyond 2pts is a bonus

Is Saka to Bruno a good move for DGW29? I'm going to FH32 so United's blank will be a non-factor. Selling Saka before Leeds doesn't sound right...

I'm not sure, Saka still has great fixture and is in top form. Could easily see him snatching a Brace tbf.

I don't think selling Saka is a good move. The form and the penalties it's just too much. He should be like 11m this year.

Thanks Camzy! The fact that Bruno has more games between now and DGW34 is so tempting...I will probably be going back and forth until Friday!

I'm not sure he does tbh... Not while Casemiro is out and he is playing deeper in midfield.

    Caps this gameweek? Still Imagine the top 3 are;

MU Rashford (flagged, but expect to be sound)
    BHA Mitoma, March, Mac
    LIV Salah (Punters)

Anyone else breaking the mold, any one brave/stupid enough to punt on Salah? I'm considering again.

100% on Salah - they'll have to be all out attack in my opinion to get top 4 from now to the end of the season, plus the captain choice this week will be quite varied so a punt (even if it doesn't work) won't be disastrous

What’s all this Bruno is deeper without Casemiro talk?!

Surely he’ll play the same if McFred or Fred/Sabitser behind him as he would with Casemiro!

      Not true.

United have deployed him deeper before with Weghorst at CAM instead.

Then when Weghorst gets subbed off 55th min, Bruno pushes forward?! Or if martial plays…

It's possible. But the fact that he COULD play in a deeper lying midfield position and costs nearly 10m means I'm not sure he's essential.

I do want him though for the penalties alone. But you can only have 5 mids so...

I think if you’re chasing big time then he can’t be overlooked because if he hauled big, nobody should be surprised.

So playing Saka with SGW over Henry makes perfect sense right? Still have Kane on the bench which seems dangerous but Leeds at home seems the safer play.
