Been looking forward to building a free hit team but it feels like lot of free hit decisions are made for.

Main teams to target - Liverpool and arsenal. 3 from each.

Salah. Obviously. No other attacking players stand out from Liverpool, so TAA and Robertson.

Arsenal: I think their defence has the best fixture, and there are plenty of attackers and midfielders to pick from, so will put 1x arsenal defender in. White has best xGI over last 6.

2x arsenal midfielders, as they are the best FPL scorers. I am leaning towards martinelli and odegaard for value and also betterx GI recently than saka.

Watkins in the form of his life. You can't leave him out.

1 crystal Palace midfielder out of eze/olise. Toss a coin and don't worry about analysing it any further.

So I think there are only really about 3 places in the starting line up that are really free for variety. For those 3, I am currently going with Johnstone (for fixture) Son and Toney. Son instead of Kane really just for a slight differential. Tony inst exactly a curveball selection - it's between him and solanke for me at the mo.

Not all of those have to be set in stone. Robbo, Palace mid - decent options but not essential. Plenty (myself included) will go triple Arsenal attack. So probably only Trent, Salah, Martinelli, Saka & Watkins are in every team

    2. Eze Really?

      2 years, 9 months ago

The shame of it is, Dipping a hand into a lucky bag. Agree with all you say. I think it is down to Pool and Arsenal choices to determine scores. If either side blows it the FH guys doing GW34 will be the winners.

Just going back to your FH question on the other page - don't you think if you FH32 you can build a team for 34 that is virtually identical to FH34? I think -8 max (across 33-4) would give me exactly the team I would pick on FH. Have you done some drafting of FH34 team vs GW34 team if you FH32?

-8 is roughly the difference between 8k and 16K

Not necessarily suggesting taking a -8, just pointing out that I think a lot of teams are probably only a couple of extra moves away from a FH34 template

        2. Eze Really?
          • 11 Years
          2 years, 9 months ago

I have done what you said but the complications relate to who I take the -8 for and the impact on GW37 with ManU and Newcastle maybe being negatively affected and Arsenal no DGW's. Pool have GW34 double and need to be replaced.

Why would ManU and Newcastle maybe being negatively effect in 37?

But why sacrifice anyone for liverpool players in gw 37?

I am no oracle but the question can only be answered in GW37. Information then with 1 week game can be different in many ways and most will have 3 of them.

Yeah the team I will be building for gw34 would be almost identical to a fh team. The difference is that if I WAS free hitting in gw34, I wouldn't be bothering to "build" towards it. I would be focusing transfers on players in gameweeks around that week

FH guys in 34 will have very similar teams to those that have been building up to it since WC & GW29 double

You want some different players surely, Jesus from Arsenal surely as everyone has the mids? I like the Son pick but feel his ceiling is low especially with that fixture, I might go for Solanke.
      VVD over Robbo for me.

    4. Tic Tacs

I'll be going 3 Arsenal attack, want to spread the bet there on who scores. Solanke looks ideal for that week, so probably just looking to decide on a differential defender pick, potentially from Fulham.

    5. Nate(U)dog(ie)

The thing is this is one of the FH weeks where there are obvious fixtures to target, and if you've got little invested in those already, then you're already benefitting. I think a good FH opportunity always provides the opportunity for some punts, but this week most would (and probably should) be using it to get the clear choices where others aren't able to, and that's where your gains should come from in relation to anyone not on FH. If you don't like it then why not mix it up? It's part of the fun of FH. Go for VVD over Robbo (I'm still not keen on double Liverpool defence but will do this instead of Robbo if I go for it), or punt on ~60mins from Diaz. Give Edouard a punt instead of Eze/Olise, or Ramsey/Buendia alongside Watkins. Punt on Pereira or Willian at home to Leeds.

You don't have to follow the crowd, but I'm someone that generally tries to do my own thing when I can and I'm going to likely be fairly FH template this week. That's pretty much the point of it for me in this context.

Some really nice ideas in there. Good point.

And yes. I must remember I am free hitting to get an advantage over NON free hitters; that doesn't necessarily mean I need to get the very highest scoring free hit side. May well be similar to lots of other free hitters.

This is a FH week where there are standout fixtures for certain teams, so most will have x3 arsenal & x3 Liverpool. But still think there will be variety. 2/3 different players can make a bug dufference

really feel for davison sanchez. what did spurs fans think would happen if the second he touched the ball when he came on he got booed by his own supporters?"you know what guys? maybe if we berate his every touch this will really instill him with confidence and we can go onto win the game! ive never understood why fans do it. its the same with maguire and england. the only people you help in the end is the team you play against.

Free Hit in 32 or play this side?

    Raya

    Trippier Guehi Moreno

    Salah(c) Eze Billing

    Kane Watkins

    Can have Saka/Martinelli for -4

You could probably go either way. 9 is a good start, no Arsenal not so good... Looks like you've been buying a few players without DGW34 (Villa, Palace) though so maybe you're leading yourself more towards FH34?

Yeah I have been bringing in players for immediate game weeks without much planning. I think I will go with what I have for 32 and free hit in 34.

        Would you do Grealish > Saka/Martinelli (-4) for 32?

Was benching Moreno and playing Trippier a bad call? I honestly didn't even consider it, but looking at the form now and it seems I probably should've given it more thought. Even got Shaw ahead of Moreno on my bench after the news he was looking fit, now I'm hoping he's not!

I did the same, but Villa have had some luck defensively recently, conceded only 2 in last 7 games before yesterday from about 8.5xGA. It is what it is, if Saka or TAA were to mysteriously miss out though I sure won't complain, but jammy bench points aren't something I get very often at all

      1. Tic Tacs
        • 5 Years

Yeah, that was my decision-making too and Newcastle get a few away goals too. Had Moreno first bench all week so he would've come on for Ake, but hearing Shaw should be fit I saw that as the better option as did RMT. Another Saka illness would be handy lol it screwed me last time though. Just one of those seasons for me.

Anyone about on WC33, BB34 strat? Been looking at it and it's a complete dud isn't it?

Can't pick Steele anymore. There aren't 3 United options you'd want. Liverpool defence is way too expensive. City defence is a lottery and the best option tends to get hooked at 55 mins every week.

Meanwhile you'll be losing Kane and Arsenal players. It's just not gonna work.

I thinking it looks pretty straight. Ederson in goal, Haaland plus one. Salah, Trent, Robbo. Bruno, maybe Martial, or Rashy if back, probably Shaw.

It's going to be an absolute beanfeast, tons of options besides.

Gonna have to agree to disagree for now. Not saying those picks can't score well, but at this moment in time it looks unlikely (half of them aren't even fit).

Why can't you pick Steele, thought it was a minor injury? I WCd in GW30 in preparation but still think Ake and Stones are good City picks, no CL fixtures until after GW35 so I don't see early subs happening too often

      Steel likely to be back
Rashford could be back if not could don't necessarily have to have 3 utd
Liv defence is expensive but affordable if salah & haaland are your only 2 premiums
City defence always been a lottery but no CL just before or after GW34.
Arsenal play City away in GW33 plus you hope DGW players atleast match or better arsenal players score
Spurs playing so kane not a big worry. Yeah he can score v utd in GW33 but for me I'll be selling him to get salah so Salah matches in 33 & 34 happy days

The list goes on. Not sure why O'Connell is calling it a 'complete dud', that's a poor conclusion. Especially when ruling out players who might not be available now but might very well be in two weeks' time.

Pretty much. I still really want a Newcastle attacker v Spurs but can't rely on who will play between Isak/Wilson so not worth it. Not sure I'd bank on them keeping a clean sheet though even though I expect a big reaction at SJP in that game

Trippier has the bonus/attacking threat at least. I would consider someone else if there was an exciting option, but his ownership scares me. He’s even 90% owned in my ML, so shouldn’t risk it.

Well yeah but the main teams to target are Arsenal and Liverpool, I have 3 x ARS already and Salah, see below -

        Trippier, White, Pinnock

What's the team looking like? The FH template is so strong, and you just know the popular picks who have done sweet FA for weeks (e.g. Trent) are gonna haul.

Think the FH could be worth 40 points+ this week.

      It's all team dependent, though.

        Hi mate, my team is

Guess you'd keep Watkins, Salah, Saka, Martinelli, White.

So just depends whether you think Kane, Murphy, Trippier, Pinnock + 1 can keep pace with the likes of Trent, Robbo, Eze etc.

If you were set on keeping Kane and Trippier then I'd def save the FH.

Anyone else a bit underwhelmed at the free hit options!? It's got to be the dullest free hit I've played.
I guess people who play it and stick to the template will still gain on people who don't use it but not massively.
Double Liverpool defence and Mo, Jesus and 2 Arsenal midfielders, Watkins etc will be in most teams.

You serious? It's only because it feels like the whole game are free hitting.

Try not having one and tell me that the FH feels underwhelming.

I’m not free hitting and the only issue is if Trent goes mad (I’ll have to make do with Konate as cover). But even if I don’t lose ground next week, I didn’t gain any by free hitting this week, as a couple of marginal gains were wiped out by Haulkins!

So I can get to this team for GW32 with no free hit and free transfers:
The transfers would be Rashford and Kane out (feels odd) and Salah and Solanke in. It seems a good way to get Salah for Double 34 and bench boost Solanke after a keeper change with the money I have left over. I don't desperately want to lose Rashford or Kane but there are injury/rehab issues for Rashford, and Salah has an extra fixture over Kane who plays United and Liverpool.

    Raya
    Trippier / Botman / Mings / Mee
    Salah (c) / Maddison / Saka / Martinelli
    Watkins / Solanke

Ward Mitoma / Estupinan / Haaland

    Good moves?

  26. Qaiss

People are complaining that the game is boring. The game is not boring, it’s not FPL’s fault that Haaland is too good.

It will be their fault if they price him at anything below £15m next season though.

    1. Nate(U)dog(ie)
      • 5 Years
      2 years, 9 months ago

It's boring to an extent because too many other players were priced too low, prices across the whole game dropped and when you can get a Saliba, White, Botman or Martinez for 4.5m there's not much need to look for budget differentials from smaller teams unfortunately. I think it'll continue though as it's been a success for FPL, more players than ever and casual players don't have to make many big decisions, most of the time you can get the big names and form players when you want without having to leave out other big players

      1. Qaiss
        • 10 Years
        2 years, 9 months ago

I agree about the pricing, that definitely needs to change a little bit next season for certain players, like I said about Haaland.

But apart from that, the game is perfect as it is. They should not change it. Maybe alter one of the chips slightly and that’s it.

I’ve seen a few say captaincy should be removed for example. That is something that would actually make the game more boring.

      2. Haa-lala-land
        • 5 Years

Thing with pricing, is that at the start of the season noone complained that players were priced too low. If anything, iirc, people said Trent, Salah Cancelo were all too low. Who could have foreseen Marsh being an 8m player for example, or Son being a 6m player.

        1. Haa-lala-land

          • 5 Years

I dunno, I definitely saw some early on (including myself) saying prices were way too low. Cheap defences from sides chasing top 4 meant no need to pick players from sides that may be fighting relegation, Martinelli and Rashford at their prices meant it was too easy to get into attackers from those sides, Kane dropping in price despite an incredible second half of last season. Fitting in TAA, Cancelo, Salah, Haaland, Kane, Jesus, Saliba etc. into a team on GW1 was way too much

      3. Fodderx4
        • 8 Years
        2 years, 9 months ago

Spot on mate, low pricing is the reason but they will always do that for more engagement.

Some kind of change that rewards getting differentials would make it fun. Double points for anyone who's ownership is under 5%!?

I'm all for bigger price changes during the course of the season, as in + or - 0.5 per week, so if they get a price wrong at the start of the season, like Rashford or Aubameyang say, they will be the correct price within a month. This would make taking him out of the team and buying him back again more of a decision

    Raya
    Trippier, Botman, Zinchenko
    Saka, Martineli, Maddison, Mitoma*
    Watkins, Kane, Haaland*

    (Kepa*, Rashford*, Shaw*, Estup*)
    With 2FT + 1m itb + plan to FH34

    A) Transfer out Haaland for Salah in order to have 10 players and Kane cover against the free hitters (will want Haaland back in GW33)

    B) Transfer out Kane for Salah and simply play with 9 players (leaves me with no pre planned transfers for GW33)

    * In both cases I'll be transferring out Maddison

If I sell Trippier on a free hit but then want to buy him back again on the same free hit, do I pay his current price or his selling price?

Current price I am fairly sure. If you've already activated FH it makes sense to pull in any players likely to rise who you want...
