Here, five-time top 1k finisher Tom Freeman shares his current squad and discusses how he’s going to use his transfers in Double Gameweek 36.

... 2

CURRENT TEAM

The squad felt like it was in decent shape when I set up my ‘bus team’ on Saturday afternoon, armed with two free transfers and £0.8m in the bank. The original idea was to focus on bringing in additional players from Brighton and Newcastle, in turn, tripling up on both sides for Double Gameweek 36.

However, a benching, followed by an injury to Solly March (£5.3m) has forced me to rethink my plans. In his pre-match interview, Roberto De Zerbi said “Solly March is not in his best moment [for fitness]”. The winger did come on at half-time but was later substituted with what appeared to be a hamstring injury, potentially ruling him out for a while.

I don’t know. We are enduring a very tough period with injuries but I don’t want to speak about this.” – Roberto De Zerbi on Solly March’s injury

It’s a shame, as March has made a real impact as a second-half substitute against Man Utd and Everton in the past week. I also liked his zonal matchups against Oleksandr Zinchenko (£5.1m) and Dan Burn (£4.5m) in Double Gameweek 36 (more on that later), but it’s highly likely he’ll now need to be moved on. But who is the best replacement? I’ll run through a few of the options I’m considering below.

MARCH REPLACEMENTS

A sideways move to Brighton team-mate Kaoru Mitoma (£5.6m) is one option, but it perhaps feels a bit uninspiring at this stage of the season.

His output has been disappointing of late, with one assist in six, a period that has seen him miss four big chances. He’s still getting the ball in dangerous areas, but versatile midfielder Pascal Gross (£5.4m) might be a better play.

He’s owned by just 0.17% of managers inside the top 100k, compared to Mitoma’s 86.48%, and since the World Cup, ranks fourth among all FPL midfielders for created chances and expected assists (xA).

Above: Midfielders sorted by chances created from Gameweek 17 onwards

At 500k w/ little to lose - Thoughts on Alvarez + Solanke > Isak + Wilson for a -4? Would be very tempted to (c) Cilson too but just worried about minutes.

    Steele

    Trippier - TAA - Shaw

    Mitoma - MacAllister - Salah - Mahrez - Rashford

    Haaland - Alvarez

Subs: Raya - Solanke - Kilman - White

Prefer Ode if looking at SGWers. I don't think it's a better replacement than Mac Allister though. Rather roll the dice with the extra fixture on a good doubler

It did cross my mind, yeah. But I think I might just use all my remaining FTs on rotating that spot: March - Willock/Joelinton - Grealish - Martinelli

Looking for something different, and here is what I have to play with:

Watkins out, and also Gakpo and/or a 5.0 defender.
Watkins to Wilson is too dull, and I have Isak.

So, a budget striker and an exciting mid? Or any other strikers that are not highly owned?
    A defender that can score?

What I have looked at so far is to get Bruno in, but United are not in form. Also got 3 city already.
Odegaard/Martinelli and a punt on a Chelsea striker? Felix/Havertz? Mitrovic?

Need to use my 2 FT this week as I'm doing FH the week after...

    What would be your priorities?

    DDG
    TAA, Trippier, Dunk,
    Grealish, Rashford, Salah, Mitoma
    Haaland, Isak, Jota

    Bench: Steele, Stones, Kilman, Andreas

    1) Get in Pope instead of DDG?
    2) Someone else in Defence?
    3) Replace Grealish with someone?
    4) Jota to Wilson?

It’s almost as if we wouldn’t want to sell our most important player and as a result we are asking for a very high price to make up for the inconvenience losing him would cause to our season next year

      1. Arteta
        • 10 Years
        2 years, 7 months ago

Yeah, I totally get the story behind it. But his contract inspires in a year and I'm not sure if it's worth paying so much. Unless we're talking about £20-30m in add-ons or something like that. The deal structure is really important in this case.

        1. Ask Yourself
          • 9 Years
          2 years, 7 months ago

We have the option to extend for another year so he essentially has 2 years left on his contract. It’s what he’s worth to us not what he’d be worth to the team he joins

They should realistically take £70-80m or lose for nothing.

      1. Arteta
        • 10 Years
        2 years, 7 months ago

From what I've read, he won't sign a new contract. I reckon they can easily hold out for at least £100m as a whole package, because there aren't many better midfielders in the league right now. He's only 24 years old, a starter for national team and a player with key characteristics and abilities.

Toney > Wilson and save FT? Anything else is just going to give you a benching headache.

    Start one:

    A) Estupiñán (ars, new)
    B) Shaw (WOL)

Currently on A but not so sure now after yesterday’s performance…

The information below should have an impact on a few Newcastle options folks are considering.

Sean Longstaff will meet with a second specialist today, amid fears that he may not play again this season. 'We thought it was quite a standard injury - a bruise, now there may be a chance it’s something a bit more serious than that but we are in the dark at the moment.'

Also some anecdotal reports of Joelinton seen limping after he came off against Arsenal.

Interesting. How important is he to Newcastle? Seems like they play better when he’s fit and doing the dirty work in midfield, but I might be wrong.

He links up really well with Trippier and Murphy/Miggy as a unit on the right. Also due to lack of centre mids, him being out means that Joelinton has to fill in. This disrupts the balance on the left where Joelinton and Willock interchange really well, taking it in turns to make runs.

    Choose one:

    A. March to Enciso/MacAllister (-4) and bench Mahrez and Shaw
    or
    B. Start any of Mahrez/Shaw

What's your best guess for the minutes of Wilson/Isak this GW?

For me, 150 for Isak, 110 for Wilson

Seems about right to me - Wilson with 60/60 or 90/30 and Isak with 90/70

    Watkins > Wilson with FT

Any reason not to? Does give me a benching headache and thing Grealish will be the fall guy.

Has to be done I reckon, can't be sure of Grealish's minutes with the game sandwiched in-between the two RM ties

Probably, but that's not a reason to keep

An in form Newcastle forward is the 'correct' option on paper
