Feel like going Trent-less opens a lot of attacking options - have come up with this:

    Pickford,
    Botman, Estu, Gabriel
    Salah, Mitoma, Rashford, Saka
    Haaland, Jesus, DCL

    (Areola, Bell, Beyer, 4.5)

Not too worried about the crappy bench... thoughts?

Rashford to Bruno and DCL to Mbuemo in 3-5-2 is better.

I'm considering 3-4-3 and going all in with Haaland, Kane and Isak.

You could sacrifice Salah, Trent and Rashford etc and should afford Saka and a budget midfielder. But midfield is where the points tend to be at and Salah can fire big in gw1. He often does.

I freed up some cash with Enciso.

Do you prefer Porro, Shaw or Stones for the first 6 games or so?

It's only really gw3-5 with decent fixtures for Spurs. But does Porro start for attacking returns, or not?

Shaw is probably best for clean sheets but does Stones offer the most of both?

    1. The Mentaculus
      • 4 Years
      2 years, 5 months ago

I wouldn't go anywhere near Spurs defence myself. Transitioning to a back 4 will be problematic, and Ange is saying things like "Me winning 4-3 is more exciting than winning 1-0". Stones is fine but for 5.5 I kind of want a bit more threat. Those first 2 home games for Shaw look as close to nailed-on CS as they come; trickier 2/4/5 obv but that's where I'd start of these 3

True and there's not that many clean sheets, especially away from home.

But Stones has Burnley, Sheffield United and Fulham as well as Newcastle in the first 4.

On a different note, are you heading to the Manchester United v Leeds United game? Is it tomorrow?

Yeah City's fixtures look decent, but I'm slightly wary of being away at promoted clubs in the early stages, Fulham caused them problems last year, and I feel like they don't tend to string together consistent CS until a bit later into the season generally. But its more like a hunch that they might underperform what we expect considering the fixtures on paper...

            That's true too.

They'll win but might let a few in.

Stones has a bigger goal threat but Shaw has been pretty consistent for assists across a decade now. Only 3 league goals in that time tho.

But Stones probably won't play all 4 and they've got a world club championship to go too early on.

Got my final pre-pre-season draft locked in. I'm going 4-5-1 with 0.5 ITB. (I always start with 0.5 to avoid price rise band wagon -4s)

    Pickford
    Gabriel - Shaw - Estu - Botman
    Salah - Saka - Maddison - Rashford - Enciso
    Haaland (c)

    Bench
    Areola - Porro - McAtee - Archer.

Will go Porro over Botman GW2 onwards.

    Thoughts?

That's a nice idea although I personally want my first sub to be a reliable performer to rotate with my back 4.

It’s off the back of the BT-Discovery merger from a few years ago - their sports package has been called TNT Sports in the rest of the world for a bit now, and they’re just synchronising branding ahead of the new season.

Yep, they've merged to get more into sports streaming and the UK market. So a takeover really.

EE used to offer a big screen deal you could stream BT Sport to an app on a TV. But the discounted price went from around £7.50 to £17.50 or so on your mobile bill.

Settled on draft team, am going to enjoy remnants of summer with side eye on preseason, injuries transfers etc. Aug-May a long enough time to fret over my team. Preseason is the most fun wildcard but good company food & drink will do it for me until we get into the business side at start of August. Relax & enjoy yourselves peeps. Good luck to all with the new season. My one wish would be that there might be less ill feeling & trolling on this site this season. Naive? probably, but I can still hope. Cheers! MTW

I like it, I've got pretty similar. Same starting defence but no Rashford or Maddison in midfield with Eze etc to afford either Isak or Jesus up front.

      Looks good.

I’ll let you guys sort my defence

    A
    Ramsdale
    Stones Shaw James

    B
    Sanchez
    Gabriel TAA Shaw

    Cheers

B with whichever Brighton/Brentford 4.5 looks like the starter, which probably won’t be Sanchez.

Good to see Watkins and i like Moreno a lot for goal threat but he's recovering from injury so might be placed around gw3 or so?

Cheers Moreno will probably have to wait a bit then - didn’t realise he was out that long.

Anyone else considering a 3-way rotation of 4.0m defenders?

Appreciate they'll not gain many points individually, but they do enable a much nicer attack with two 5.0m defenders.

Nope - tinkered with two 4.0 defenders but definately not three

I have been looking into this but don't feel we have enough data currently to make a viable system.
The extra £1.5m you free up from doing it is great.

If there are three nailed 4.0 defenders who rotate well, it sounds like an avenue that could be explored.

I think there will be at least three £4.0m starting defenders this season. Beyer + Baldock most likely at this stage. Lamptey + Braithwaite could become 1st choice. I'd expect Djed Spence and Sergio Gomez to get loans as well as others like Brandon Williams.

Are Beyer, Baldock and Bell not all nailed?

      If so, they rotate nicely.

Nice opening run of home fixtures for that rotation: CRY, BUR, AVL, EVE

Nope. I've spent days trying out 3-way 4.5 combos, but I think I've settled on a one-pair rotation as a (risky) strategy. My 4.0 is poised to start GW1 before being nailed to my bench for evermore.

Baldock? Surely you play him GW4 at home against Everton.

Which of these two teams do you lot prefer?

    A:
    Pickford
    Gabriel - Shaw - Estupinan
    Martinelli - Salah - Mbeumo - Mitoma - Foden
    Haaland - Jesus

    Bench: Botman/Cash - Bell - Archer

    B:
    Ramsdale
    Shaw - Estupinan - Aké
Saka - Martinelli - Rashford - Foden - Luis Diaz
    Haaland - Watkins

    Same bench as above

Always fearful of going without Salah - and possibly Trent, but his price point is difficult.
But the players I can get when cutting Salah from my team are certainly able to get the points!
Obviously I will monitor pre-season friendlies regarding Diaz, Foden and Aké

Timber's signing is expected to be announced tommorow. Gabriel owners should go for Saliba or Zinchenko instead.

Why? Timber more of a threat to Ben White in my opinion.

Why on earth would Timber be a threat to Gabriels minutes?

If anything he's more of a threat to Zinchenko (he's not though)

Gabriel is their only left-footed CB though

I think White will move back to CB and Timber on RB. Being left footed is nice advantage on LCB but there are many right footed defenders playing LCB

I cant see how TAA wont score less than 200 points this season

In the second half of the season (last 19 games he scored 101 points (1st amongst defenders).
Liverpool team will only get better, cant get any worse than last season and the quality they added in midfield will make him explode.

From what I see, Liverpool have only strengthened their midfield from an attacking point of view.
Last season, that defence was porous and midfield was all over the place when defending. Klopp needs to address that or the goals against them will continue.

Trent looks quality in his new role and he will surely score big - but with a price tag of 8.0 he NEEDS to score big. Even if he just gets a clean sheet, that almost won't feel as enough due to his price. He is a wait and see for me, but I obviously can see the appeal. Just need Liverpool to show more balance

      I can.
Liverpool are still dodgy at the back.
They've bought 2 creative midfielders to play ahead of Trent, meaning his silky passes will assist the assisters more often than not.

That dodgy defence kept the most clean sheets in the second half of the season with 10? 1 more than United, 4 more than Arsenal/City and 6 more than Newcastle

Still have not moved from this.

    Ramsdale
    TAA Estupinan Botman
    Saka Odegaard Diaz Mbeumo
    Haaland Gakpo Wissa

    Areola P.Porro Fofana/Colwill Ebiowei

    Ramsdale
    TAA Etsu Tripp
    Ode Saka Rash Mbuemo Mitoma
    Haalnd DCL

    Areola Beter Bell Surridge

Obviously question marks around DCL but other than that?
