    City discussion.

    Akanji + 0.5M or Stones?

Stones is more advanced and slightly more nailed but nobody is safe from rotation at City so I prefer Akanji with no Gvardiol news.

Also, is Foden a good option? I'm second guessing it. Alvarez will play a lot more and City's fixtures are:

    Aug 6 - Community Shield
    Aug 11 - Burnley (A)
Aug 16 - UEFA Super Cup
    Aug 19 - Newcastle

Newcastle only conceded 33 goals last year so Foden HAS to play Burnley to be worth it. With Man City having the best attack we need more cover than Haaland BUT Pep roulette is likely with that heavy fixture list to start.

There's a detailed breakdown of Foden's position, likely minutes and potential attacking roles in the team in here.

Cheers, definitely, high risk, high reward! Although Mahrez left, B. Silva and De Bruyne are looming.

If B. Silva leaves, that would certainly help.

He's been in my draft but that heavy fixture list to start scares me. Think if he does not start the community shield we're in luck.

Honestly I see the fixtures as a an opportunity to get the 1st team up to speed - too much is made of it! Foden will get even more minutes than last year and likely make a mockery of the price tag!

The ceiling is so high on Foden, Darwin, Pedro, Jackson & Bowen. Foden and Haaland play so well together too.

I think Foden's a big risk, and I'd prefer to be sure of where he's playing before committing.

MCI's wingers tend to be very wide as they dominate possession, letting their CMs run into space in the box. Assist potential is good, but I don't see their wide players consistently being a goal threat.

If Foden looks like he's starting in Gundogan's old position then I think he's probably worth it.

Foden completely outplayed Dan Burn at the Etihad last season and was one of the few right wingers to do so. Man City beat Newcastle easily that day without really getting out of first gear. It was nothing like the 3-3 contest at SJP.

City defenders don't tend to score many points even if they play.

Foden is big risk, big reward but I thought Mahrez left?

I don't feel all that confident predicting Pep, but I expect they will get Gvardiol & that makes Akanji & Ake too much of a risk. I wouldn't go for anyone bar Stones in defence. Don't really trust Foden or Alvarez for improved, consistent mins

My only concern with Stones is that, like with a lot of other players and experiments that Pep tries that go well, he can change his mind very, very quickly and players can go from looking nailed to being nearly frozen out once something else new works out. Not saying I expect it early on, but wouldn't surprise me if he tries something else in a game and suddenly Stones is back competing for RB/CB

Stones was a good defender, not a great one, he is an average midfielder that's for sure and doesn't tend to score many FPL points

Slightly differential rotational draft. Very likely won’t go with it but I kinda like it.

    Leno, Rodak
    Gabriel, Estupinan, James, Schar, Mee
Salah, Eze, Mbeumo, Gibbs-White, Douglas Luiz
    Haaland, Jesus, Jackson

It's ok...I'm not sure though... midfield too light...defense too heavy...you can bring down achar and mee to botman and Henry if necessary....gives you 1milnto upgrade midfield

Who should fill the vacant midfield slot?

    Onana
    Gabriel | Stones | Estupinan
    Saka | Rashford | Bruno | Maddison | xxxx
    Haaland | Jackson
    ------------------------------------------------------
    Areola | Henry | 4.0 def | 4.5 forward

    a) Foden
    b) Martinelli
    c) another suggestion (up to 8.0M)

    1. Fatboy_Slim
      • 8 Years

Maybe go for Jesus as 3rd forward? Else my vote is Foden...saves you 0.5, and lot of outgoing players at city....on the other hand, martinelli is a good option, but just a nagging feeling about trossard....

Liverpool have conceded 7 goals in 2 preseason games so far. Obviously a lot of caveats there but even during their good spell at the end of last season they conceded some big chances and had a bit of luck, now with wholesale changes in midfield it'll take time to adapt

How did you leave yourself those dilemmas!?

I would always favour the home players - so Jackson to start. More likely rotation with Liverpool anyway.

Your defenders - I think both will likely concede. But Schar has that goal threat. So start Schar.

Fair point but I just feel that Schar was unlucky just to get one. I don't think there is much in it.

If Jackson starts his pace & direct running could be very effective against Liverpool in particular. I think if you take the punt, you start him. Benching until we get clarity on his nailedness doesn't really seem the right move to me - if you don't trust his mins enough to start him, get a placeholder

I don't mind taking one, max 2, risks like this in my starting team though as long as they have the ceiling for it to potentially pay off. Obviously it can backfire (I had Darwin from the off last season...), but on the other hand it looks like a different kind of risk to ignore both Nkunku & Jackson for LUT/NFO & that's not one I'm particularly keen on

      2. Wrong Captain Choice - Ag i…
        • 16 Years

I agree can't understand benching Jackson, if it was Chilwell I would understand.Because Chelsea could concede.

But if Chelsea do click in attack v Liverpool there is likelihood that Jackson could be involved.
A home game as well at the Bridge - it should be a great atmosphere and drive Chelsea on to play well - wanting to impress Pochettino etc.

Also, if Jackson plays well v Liverpool it means he could do even better when that easy run of fixtures starts gw3.
Alternatively if it takes Jackson 1-3 gameweeks to settle - there still is that nice run of fixtures to come.

The thing about Foden is you just leave him there - accept that he might not start 10/15 games during the season.
Will at least get a few 30 minute run outs chance for FPL points against tired legs
But when Foden does start he could score really big.

He was adamant that every time he was on the pitch last season he was in pain, the operation was the best thing he'd done.

In those cases i think you can trust the guy saying it. It's rather a personal thing, pain and performance etc.

Darwin isn’t even a starter and picking 2 CBs from a team who scored about 90 goals last season seems short-sighted.

Lot of rotation risk with this team but I kinda like it:
    Flekken | Bentley
TAA Gabriel Estupinian | Beyer Baldock
    Rashford Saka Martinelli Foden Mitoma
    Haaland Darwin | Mubama

    What are your thoughts???

The last I heard was that it probably would but was likely to be much smaller, one of the main problems being that TM was not certain how much Ragabolly would still be able to help with the LMS leader-board on his site.
I have asked TM if he has any further news about this.

I'll be running a smaller version this season as I'm pretty busy in the next 2 months along with safety score information for Livefpl being up in the air. Entry will be open sometime in the week leading up to GW1.

He managed fewer than 20 appearances for Galatasaray last season but some midtable Prem club is going to pay a 35-year-old Juan Mata big wages to play #10 at glacial pace.

Draft based off top 5 attacks/defences last season. Chilwell the exception. Monitoring pre-season & community shield before I commit to this though!

    Onana
    Estupiñán | Akanji | Gabriel
    Salah (v) | Martinelli | Foden | Mitoma
    Haaland (C) | Jesus | João Pedro

Bench: Areola | Chilwell | Baldock | Nakamba

I don't feel a Saka shaped hole in my team but a Bruno/Rashford one based off this: https://twitter.com/FPLfrasier/status/1685116919827886080/photo/1

Safe for GW1. No Newbies or punts.

    How about this?

    Onana (Areola)
    Trent, Estupinan, Botman (Bell, Beyer)
    Saka, Rashford, Bruno, Mitoma, Diaby
    Haaland, Jesus (Archer)

Quite fancy a punt on Trossard but I think this should be reasonably solid.

    No subs really though

    Thoughts?

  27. Eddie Nketamine

Joao Pedro is a bit of a risk especially with that weak of a bench but he’s been on fire during preseason and but surely Brighton wouldn’t spend £30m on him and give him the number 9 if he isn’t gonna play, could be on penalties as well but will probably be Groß.

Really like this draft though Trent, Salah, Haaland and a midfield of penalty takers. Is Henry the best 4.5 or should I go for someone else?

    Onana
    Trent Gabriel Estu Henry
    Salah Saka Bruno Mbuemo
    Haaland(C) J.Pedro

    Areola Baldock Ahamada Mubama

Getting tempted by him over Mitoma too. I was always likely to be looking at whatever Brighton attacker I go with as short-term (pretty much up to GW4 then reassess given the IB followed by European fixtures beginning) but with Adingra looking like he's staking a claim for rotating with Mitoma maybe it's just best to accept rotation with someone cheaper

I've been asking the same question since one week..he could be explosive against luton...however, all I can say is there are so many unknowns with the starting lineup in attack that even though I have had Pedro since the beginning, I might just switch for the sake of 'dont fall behind early in the season!'

We all know there is a lot of value in the mids but I think there is as well in the 7.5-8.0 forwards They could all score a lot this year!

Like someone else said above with someone else's draft, in my opinion I don't think you should have Jackson at 7m if you're planning on benching him. Later on in the season it's not a big deal but GW1 benching someone like that just doesn’t make much sense to me personally, especially given Liverpool will have to adjust to all the changes and as he seems to like to run behind
