Going all in on the first three games with a dirt cheap bench and planning an early wc. So for just the first three games, which is to prefer?

    A - Rashford, Foden, Wissa
    B - Rashford, Mitoma, Nkunku
C - De Bruyne, Mitoma, Wissa

C means replacing Stones with a 5.5 defender. Thinking Chilwell in that case. Someone else?

    Raya
    Gabriel, Shaw, Stones
    Saka, Ødegaard, Fernandes, XX, YY
    Haaland, ZZ

I wouldn't really consider KDB GW1 since he's not been fit enough to even sub on for a few mins in any of their friendlies so far. Raya is also problematic - likely on his way out & Flekken is taking over.

Unless you're trying to squeeze in Raya as a 4th Arsenal player? Which is not a bad idea tbh

Cheers. Good point on KDB, Man City is a bit of a blind spot for me so far this preseason. If Raya moves it’s to Arsenal and I think he actually starts there. But ofc something to think about. Which option do you prefer of the first two?

          B. Big Mitoma fan & think BHA will start strong. I had Wissa but am a little unsure now. Chelsea attack has looked surprisingly good & even LIV whu seem quite favourable fixtures to me (for attack at least)

Stones is a 5.5m defender. I keep switching between him and Chilwell, think I will go Stones GW1 GW2 and then swap to Chilwell.

      B seems the safer bet

Yeah, I meant ‘another’ 5.5. Not because of cash but because of City players. But realized now that’s not even an issue. Been staring at the screen for too long I think!

Am I crazy for going Darwin over Jesus? I think even with fewer minutes I think Darwin might get more points

If we know he gets 15 mins less per game than Jesus, I'd go for it. Problem is, it could be 70 mins less than Jesus.

No, I'm tempted too. Only Klopp's pressing comments are making me hesitant (and the competition with Jota/Gakpo obviously). Could just try it out for the first 2 GWs & bail to Nkunku/Jackson if he's not starting..?

      Welcome back.

      Hope August is fun.

Looks fine, v strong. Henry is probably a safer option than Pinnock.

      Why Pickford out of interest?

Thanks! How is your team looking?

        Will replace Pinnock with Henry.

Picked Pickford as he seems to be the only viable 4.5 option with decent fixtures.

          Still tinkering at the edges.

Just going to mull it over with the next few friendlies. Deciding on Villa defence and the goalkeeper.

i had a few differentials but as ever there's a fair amount of convergence once they start scoring pre-season.

On Pickford after gw10 you could switch to Johnstone.

Villa are under the radar but have great fixtures from gw2 especially.

Liking this draft for a risk-free start to the season:

    Pickford (Areola)
    Stones Gabriel Estupiñan (Beyer, Baldock)
    Salah Saka Foden Mitoma Eze
    Haaland Jesus (Ellis)

Foden should be nailed in the absence of KDB, the Community Shield should offer some answers with regard to Pep’s thinking. Considering Mbeumo and Diaby instead of Eze, but currently have Eze due to form and due to the better GW1 fixture so I can evaluate from there.

Eventually see myself making a Stones>Chilwell, Jesus>Nkunku, and Foden>Richarlison/Maddison move. Right now this feels the safest way to get off to a good start without gambling too much!

Don't care that much about total team goals. Rashford and Bruno should have high goal involvement. Yeah Arsenal will score a lot more but they'll also spread the returns around a lot more. It doesn't need to be a long term play anyway. Can easily move one of the United boys on for whoever gets off to a hot start.

      I think it's done!

There's going to be question marks over a couple of players and I'm on similar but with just Salah and Saka in midfield compared to your selections.

Son or Rashford is an obvious choice there.

Pedro and Cash look good value picks and you've got a viable bench too.

    4. Piggs Boson

Pedro is a concern for two reasons. The minutes risk, and also he makes you a little inflexible. If a Jackson or Hojlund starts firing it'll require a couple of transfers to rework the structure.

But if you're not worried about that, then go for it. I don't want to turn your team into mine.

7.5 to Joao Pedro was indeed the key to the one I tried earlier. Still prefer my current no Salah squad, but only just.

Who's the best 4.5 defender? I'm thinking between Cash and Udogie

Cash I don’t think is nailed after emery’s experiments in pre season where he’s playing CBs at full back. Konsa and Diego Carlos have both played RB at times so when Moreno is back I imagine that could be the norm with Cash rotating in and out.

Udogie could be good if he attacks but postecoglu defences aren’t usually the most solid.

My favourites are Tarkowski, Henry and Pau Torres from villa

Feel like its Cash's position to lose, but on shaky ground in tough fixtures, esp once Moreno back

Pau likely to be eased in, especially given Mings form second half last year

      Colwill, Henry.
Cash not nailed (Konsa played there in preseason game and looked good) and too early to know about Udogie

With Fofana, Badiashile and Chalobah unlikely to be available for the start of the season I think Colwill will start alongside Silva. Great partner to learn from! If he starts well I think he'll be pretty much nailed whoever they may yet buy. Bargain.

Not great fixtures to start though. Why not wait on that and WC GW3 to get him and other value bandwagons in

He'll be in my squad from GW1, playing by GW3. Won't WC for some time unless injuries decimate the squad.

The 8.0 is only worth it if he was playing OOP as he did to end of last season. Doesn't sound like that's going to happen

not essential, depends how you see the £8m options

      e.g. TAA/4.5 fodder vs Watkins/4.0 def

Also need to think about timings, entirely new midfield and not a great defence last year - personally think I'll wait until WC for him

Go for it if that’s your view- personally playing fixtures and spreading cash to teams with better fixtures and want to see Trent’s positioning but will own him at some point in the season.

Tough one, but the price of £8.5m is only really justified if Liverpool keep a load of CS. There is rightful skepticism about that, so I can understand people opting for a different option.

I'm happy to wait until after the second IB.

I can only see perhaps 2 CS for Liverpool in those first 8 fixtures. Thereafter, things look much better all the way until mid-December, with the exception of the Man City game in GW13.

Btw, that "free" Bet365 game that is advertised here, requires a deposit of £5 to enter, "for the sole and specific purpose of using them (i) to place your sporting and gambling stakes (ii) setting any fees or charges that you might incur in connection with bet365's services".

I cancelled my registration at this point. I don't trust them.

FFS say categorically there's no relationship or affiliate status.

Somehow that standard affiliate text has been posted.

FFS say it's a format like Fan Team that some people like to play, but perhaps there's some advertorial type arrangement?

Actually I've found a workaround. If you back out at the point it asks for your money, your account is still created, so you can enter a team without a deposit.

Or you could put £2.50 each way on Authorised Art in the 6.40 at Galway tomorrow and hope for the best!

But that definitely would be gambling.

Agreed on Stones, may move him to TAA in WC once CL arrives

Other than having no bench I'm pretty happy with this one for a Salah draft. If I had to upgrade the bench though, where would you take money out of this team?

    Steele
    Shaw | Gabriel | Porro
    Salah | Saka | Rashford | Foden | Mbeumo
    Haaland | Joao Pedro

    Bench: 4.0 | 4.0 | 4.0 | 4.5

Porro and 4.0 to Tarkowski/Villa defender.

I've somehow got three Everton players in my latest draft (Pickford, Patterson & Danjuma).
Having said that, Everton's fixtures are very kind. They play the majority of the better sides at home when they first meet, except Villa, Liverpool & Tottenham. They don't even play Tottenham until around Christmas time, as well as Man City.
I'm starting to believe Pickford & an Everton defender is somewhat justifiable, especially if you can rotate the defender with somebody else.

Hehe I don't mind. I'm not so anti-RMT as some. But tbh you could probably get more detailed feedback on a final draft if you don't post too many (others) right before.

Yeah very true. Plus, posting multiple drafts probably results in overthinking the final 15.

Ignoring the fact that Onana costs 5.0, who is the best 5.5m Defender if you could have only one:

    A) Shaw
    B) Chilwell
    C) Stones

Does Onana being a good passer/involved in buildup really make him a better FPL asset? I haven't looked into the BPS breakdown but a lot of people seem to be speaking up about it.

    1. The Mentaculus
      • 4 Years

That's the assumption - that he's the key to playing out from the back as Shaw was in his bonus-magnet CB role. Though apparently there wasn't much general evidence of playing out v Dortmund. And no one dares look too deep into BPS breakdown - its scary & confusing down there!

    Pickford
    TAA, Stones, Gabriel, Chillwell, Botman
    Saks, Salah, MacAllister
    Haaland, Jesus.

Subs Virginia, Ahamada, Baptiste & Archer.

    Thanks guys!

Don't like the formation or the way you've gutted your midfield when that's (usually) where all the points are (certainly was last season)
