445 have entered the Hall of Shame! Outstanding, mine confidence is high we will get the requisite 500 lollygagging jousters we need! Those without there own steed may avail themselves of the half coconut shells in the Great Hall reception area and cloakroom (deep at the back of the cloakroom hangs the bearskin robe, to be presented to the highest ranked damsel in the tourney.

In DRAFT, I currently have Paqueta and Andreas.

Would you keep these or swap one or both, other options are:

    A. Rodri/Kovacic
    B. Buendia
    C. Tielemans
    D. Olise
    E. Garnacho/Madueke/Chukwuemeka ?

Probably keep them both, maybe Chukwuemaka or Garnacho if you like them but andreas better long term. And Paqueta could be a big asset at city

I think I'm leaning this way, I had my eyes on those potential 'cheap' options but the former seem like relative safe picks.

Definitely keep Andreas but I might consider swapping Paqueta for one of the City mids

These were my thoughts too, Andreas seems the better option. Having seen the news today, Paqueta may be a City mid himself!

Its usually between him and Bailey and since Emery came in (and preseason) its clear Emery favours Buendia, so I'm confident he starts. Its the CDM positions which are less certain, with Luiz, Kamara and Tielemans all in the mix.

Looks fine. Nor sure about Udogie, Cash or Wissa. Spurs defence is always a trap. There's a chance Villa could play one of their quality CBs at fullback, which might jeopardise Cash. And I'm not sure Wissa has the ability to capitalise on the Toney opportunity.

Another content creator going with the template.

It is so incredibly boring - why spend so long explaining all the reasons, we know them, we've been told them a thousand times already. It doesn't even feel like it can be called content at this point.

If it succeeds, great, the template and 5 million other managers are within about three points of each another.

      Agreed,
When you read articles on here it feels like there are only about 20 players for people to pick their 15-man squads from.

Where are Steele, Pope, TAA, Trippier, Shaw, Reece James, White, De Bruyne, Son, Kane or Wilson in any of these drafts?

Yep that's my front 7 as well. That's the reason I picked them (they're also great players in their own right). Penalties are bound to happen with VAR and all the extra time we have. Our teams have over 1/3 of the penalty taker of the premier league.

With perma captain Haaland, it’s tough to justify the trade offs to bring in Salah. Plus, preseason shows he may be get more assists than goals and his price you want the opposite.

    4. F4L
      • 10 Years

i guess it depends on some of the 5.5-6.5 mids/strikers being reliable; if you're confident in that price bracket then I'd get Salah, he'll heavily outscore the 8.5 mids imo

Torn. Basically comes down to Mo + 4.5 / 5.0 Def or Rash + Bruno.

Rash + Bruno probably scores more points, but Mo provides a better captaincy option.

Regarding the extended additional time, here's another overthinking angle:

Adding lots of time to the first half would mean protected players might come off before the 60th minute more often

If the idea remains "injury risk increases after 60 minutes of competitive football", then that 60th minute *of playing* can come in the game's 50th minute

I have no idea if the Sports Medicine departments of teams like Man City will actually take this part seriously, and no data to back it up either. Just putting it out there

Maybe, although that would also mean your impact players are on for 50-60mins, which might not be the idea if they're impact players.

    Pickford
    TAA / Estupinan / Botman
    Bruno F / Salah / Saka / H.barnes
    Pedro / Haaland / Wissa

    Areola(or turner) Anderson / Baldock / Beyer

I know Barnes should probably be Mitoma or Eze if going with the masses, but i just have a good feeling about him and is my one punt.
Still undecided on Pedro and Wissa, just like that it allows salah/saka/bruno and TAA.

Subjectively, I play FPL to win. Nothing more, nothing less. We all do.

However, I’m not shackled by rank history because I lost it and I have no intentions of becoming a content creator. But, I admit, it reduces my legitimacy as capable of giving sound advice. Ohwell.

To my detriment, I am an impatient player and often try and go against the grain to maximise the pay-off.

With that being said, I’m fundamentally aware of the flaws with my team below. Betting against popular picks never ends well.

But, the thought of going against the grain and getting it right is why I play the game. And if it goes badly, so be it. I don’t need to keep my rank history squeaky clean.

It’s not often I see teams without Salah, and in recent years it’s unheard of to not have two premiums (as well as Trent). It seems the vast majority of the game are avoiding premiums, except Haaland.

With Kane seemingly staying and in a team managed by what the vast majority agree is a very attacking team, and which that due to poor form last season will not have the European burden I can’t look past him. Combine that with a Liverpool side that almost certainly will need to outscore teams to pick up 3 points and who are quite capable given Klopp’s offensive style and a plethora of exciting attackers, Salah looks supreme.

As such, I see an opportunity. A “threemium draft”.

These work when there are cheap options available in the game. Joao Pedro seems excellent now he is on penalties and Levi Colwill is an exciting prospect with a lot to prove and I’d argue the talent to back it up. Anderson and Chukwemueka on the bench look exciting given their form, potential, price, or circumstance or a combination of these factors.

And finally, Gabriel Jesus’ injury bodes well for Martinelli. Whilst Havertz replaced Jesus in the lineup at the weekend, I don’t anticipate both Partey and Rice to play together in many games, especially the plum home fixtures against NFO and Fulham.

Admittedly, I do have a 6.0m midfield slot available and I’ve currently gone punty on Brennan Johnson. Awoniyi news pending, I am intrigued to see a potentially OOP player with Sheffield United (H) Gameweek 2. If I’m safe, MGW will start in my team.

For that reason, I have created this team.

    Johnstone
    Chilwell Saliba Estupinan Colwill
    Salah Martinelli B.Johnson
    Haaland Kane J.Pedro

Whilst, Haaland, Salah, and Kane all seem invaluable in my mind, starting with each I can quickly assess if that has been a misjudgment. I also have a WC in hand if it all goes badly and Pedro, Colwill, Johnson/MGW become issues.

It will probably be unsuccessful but the thought of this team working is exciting and that’s why I play the game. Heck, trying to catch later on is more exciting than trying to finish in a respectable 5K.

I don’t need a good rank history because if I won it I’d be an “expert.”

Please keep the comments kind, I just wanted to share my thoughts. Nobody has to reply, but I hope I shared my thoughts coherently.

Hey, I think it looks interesting and totally get what you are coming from. Looks like one of the (several) experimental teams I've come up with. Sometimes it's fun to let it run. Good luck with it!

      Good post!
I think this team could do well, and if it does, you'll be in the top 100k by GW3. Also easy to go down to that cheaper "must have" player that always arise eventually.

I like it. I also have Harry in as well as Kulu and Maddison, might swap Kuly to Lo Celso if he's gonna be a starter so I can get Rashford in. But, I agree with you, I play this game for fun and to enjoy it.

Thanks all. Glad the team isn’t viewed as awful and I’m glad I communicated the sentiment across!

      Kane, Haaland, J.Pedro

I'd say the fundament flaw in your team is only having four mid/fwd players that look like achieving regular attack returns. Chances are 50% of your team only scores 2 points most weeks.

Johnstone (or any other 4.5GK), Salah, Haaland, Kane, Martinelli, Estupinan, Chilwell, Saliba - all popular picks in their own right, no?

Only Colwill, J.Pedro, and B.Johnson that I’d have to hope over perform.

I'm more referring to playing 4 at the back so you lose an attacking player.

Any ideas how to get an extra 0.5 so I can do Mitoma to Maddison?

    Onana
    Chilwell Estupinan Gabriel
    Saka Martinelli Rashford Bruno Mitoma
    Haaland Watkins

    Areola Kabore Baldock Mubama

    Watkins to Isak?

      Onana to a 4.5 or:
get rid of one of the mids other than Mitouma to get Maddison in.

Just out of interest, and this is not just aimed at the OP, but how difficult is this for you not to be able to work this out for yourself?

Mitoma is better and cheaper IMO

Not to depress you, but isn't it an extra £1m. Possibly a GK downgrade for half of it (or all of it, if I've got that wrong)
