This evening we roll out the final part of our series of Projections articles for the season ahead. Having already assessed the Keepers, Defenders and the Midfielders, itโ€™s finally time to start searching for value up front.

With the aid of our freshly Projections, weโ€™ve analysed the average points expected per player over the course of the upcoming campaign and, applying this to the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) player price list, have listed the top ten in terms of expected value per Fantasy pound for the season aheadโ€ฆ

Using the comparison tool with Aguero and Tevez over the last 4 or 6 matches it looks to me like Aguero is a significantly better FPL option. Tevez gets far more involved in the play but this is not something that necessarily leads to FPL points. Analysing the really important stats for a striker (the goal threat section) its seems to me that Aguero shits all over Tevez.

I'm guessing I'm hardly the only person to compare these two using the tool, anyone else care to give their perspective?

I'm really tempted by both. Aguero is just about essential so want him but I can see Tevez easily being the top scoring 9.0 option too. Plus if he starts and scores double figures in either Southampton or QPR his price will rocket.

Can someone convince me why Aguero is more nailed on though?

I think I'm going to go with him just because it feels a bit safer to captain him. Though I think the tip of the attack (Aguero) is more easily replaced for easier games with Balotelli and Dzeko, than Tevez is as the second striker dropping deeper. I think only Yaya could play there really and he'll usually start as one of the mid 2 or further up in the 3-5-2.

Such a nightmare. I think I'm going to have to start with Aguero as it then gives me the possibility of switching to Tevez when we've seen a few games.

No one's concerned as to which is better according to stats, we just want to know which is safer for starts and captaincy.

Yeah exactly, the games you want Aguero as your captain. If Mancini does see him as being creative enough to play behind one of them, then it's not a problem. I'm just not sure he does and maybe Yaya or Silva would get that position.

I think - using the percentages rather than raw numbers, as obviously Tevez was golfing for much of the season - that Carlos wipes the floor with Aguero.

Which only confirms the most important info - what I see when they play. Tevez for me, thanks.

I'm looking at the stats of the last 4-6 matches only, Tevez started all of them.

We've obviously got different perspectives here. When I look at the stats they confirm what I thought when watching their games late last season, that Aguero carried a far greater goal threat.

I posted this on the last page but nobody picked me up on my ridiculous logic... Can someone tell me why I am wrong?

My current thinking on Vermaelen is that if Arsenal get, conservatively, 10 clean sheets, and he scores 6 goals (again, not too much to ask based on previous seasons) then you’ve essentially got a 19 goals a season striker for 7m. And he takes up one of those pesky defender spots.

    [Working: 6 goals @ 6 points = 36 points, which is equal to 9 striker goals, plus 10 CS @ 4 points = 10 more striker goals]

He's such a class FPL player to havein your side too. Pity about hisinjury record. When he takes to the field ina home game against a bottom alf team he could literally bag 20 points if he's got his shooting oots on. I have a strick o expensive defenders policy thisyear though unfortunately!

The logic is sound. (And Vermaelen is in my side right now) But the hesitancy is that a defender can't/won't keep scoring 6 goals a season. I think. Having said that he does have an insatiable appetite for bombing on beyond his midfield and having a go. Add to that headers from corners.

...that's why he's still in my team.

19 goals would likely get you more bonus points than 10 CSs plus 6 goals. Also, you're much less likely to captain a defender.

Doesn't make him a bad choice, though.

      Verm:
      36 pts for goals
      40 pts for clean sheets
      say 6 pts for assists
      say 2*35 = 70 appearance points
      say 20 BPs
say -12 pts for 2+ conceded
say -8 pts for yellow cards
      = 152 pts

      Striker
      19 goals = 76 pts
      say 8 assists = 24 pts
      say 30 BPs
      say -4 for yellow cards
      70 appearance points
      = 196 pts

Still those 6 goals are probably worth 50 pts including boni, which ain't to be sniffed at over an ordinary defender

Verms points per game last year would make him score around 185 if keeping the same points per game and playing the full 38 matches, which indicates just how well he can score with plenty of options to change to if he gets injured.

Touche B&B. The problem with that argument though is that this mytical 19-goals-and-8-assists-for-7m-striker doesn't exist, whereas The Verminator is very, very real.

Wish I had not seen this post as I really like higher value defenders with big attacking threat (I currently have Baines) and its making me want more that I cant afford.

Very good points though and this is why over the last 3 seasons I view Baines like an extra midfielder but just with the bonus of clean sheets.

Nasri: 76 chances created 5 goals 9 assists in 2250 mins

I just can't do it. If he was in my fantasy team, I'd have to stop wanting him to get on the end of a Dan Smith / Martin Taylor / Ryan Shawcross tackle.

I can always choose Valencia instead. Although, with Southampton first up, City assets are looking tasty. Everton is a far more challenging proposition. Maybe I should go with Yaya.

Ayone else going for the combination of 5x "big hitters" backed up by 3x rotating budget attackers (sub-6.0m) to complete the front 8? The budget list is pretty good - maloney, pogreb, noble are my own budget attckers of choice... Allowing budget for rooney/aguero/silva/lamps/bale plus an ok-ish defence.

At present yes with the same cheap ones, but slightly downgraded with Arteta (potentially Carzola) over Silva.
