With the Champions League’s return, difficult decisions of who starts and who is rested begin once again. Many managers have given up on second-guessing the team sheet from reigning champions Manchester City, with Julian Alvarez being the most transferred-in player ahead of Gameweek 6.

The Smarkets betting markets are offering traders the chance to back him, with Alvarez to score over 6.5 points. However, managers will have to be careful because each week’s most-bought player has so far failed to deliver a big return.

In the Saturday night slot, Manchester United will be trying to get their stuttering campaign back on track. Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford will once again be looking to lead the charge and you can pit them against each other in a head-to-head bet. Rashford is the favourite at 1.54 (8/15).

NORTH LONDON THOUGHTS

Meanwhile, Arsenal and Spurs meet for the season’s first north London derby, with Ange Postecoglu bringing a revival similar to that of his red counterpart Mikel Arteta. After two losses in last year’s clashes, Spurs will be hoping for better with a new talisman running the show.

James Maddison has delivered over 5.5 points in three of his first five matches and is 2.30 (13/10) to keep that good start going. Or will Martin Odegaard lead his team to victory and keep the winning streak alive? At 3.30 (23/10) to go over 6.5 points, Arsenal and Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers will be watching him closely.

Smarkets

As always, there are markets on fixture-proof heavy hitters Mohamed Salah and Erling Haaland to grab over 7.5 points – just watch out for the dreaded threat of ‘Pep Roulette’…

Rushed my transfers without keeping in mind the fact that I can't play all 8 attackers... what are the chances (A) outscores (B) this GW?

    A) Alvarez (NFO) + Neto (LUT)
    B) Diaby (CHE) + Mbuemo (EVE) + 4 points

    Cheers!

Alvarez on his own could outscore all of the other three mids 🙂

If you are on WC getting Salah is a good idea. If he rises in price you may start having issue with those pesky 0.1's.

I kinda prefer the Wilson gamble and I'm not sure who I'd drop over saka foden right now so I'm kinda inclined to side with my initial plan but I 100% get what your saying with price rises. Would have to monitor for sure.

Ok, get it now! Yes, supporting something which ruins livelyhoods is criminal.

It's the young ones who get the most excited. And that's the issue. Akin to catching them young with samples of free drugs.

    Gusto or Chilwell

    Leno or Areola

    A. Play chilwell over gusto.
    B. Play gusto over chilwell
    C. Chilwell to botman and play over cash (means dont have 2ft next week for Salah move

    Is my logic correct here:

If your not going to captain Salah, then he needs to return 50% more points than a c.£8m mid to be decent value (assuming you can usefully spend the cash elsewhere).

I'm not convinced that Salah is going to hit this marker.

You are too focused on Salah's price.

Can you name the mid which will have more points than him come the end of the seadon?

I think there's plenty who could realistically get to within 75% of his points, and therefore be better value (assuming you don't Captain Salah)

Saka, Bruno, Odegaard, Madison?, Rashford?, Son?, Foden? Sterling?

I think for me it comes down to what you'd use the extra money for (upgrade another mid to 8/9mill? Better defence?)

The higher the value, the greater the need to captain.
There is an argument a slay +6 mil is similar to 2 x 9 mil players.

Yes, might rest on how well the £6m mid crop do Vs the £8/9m crop.

So far £6mills looking good! (Mbueno/ jwp, Diaby). Can't they sustain it?

It's an extremely valid point but with the pricing this year it's possible to get him without effecting the rest of your team. So essentially if all you have is spare money in the bank then it's better invested in the starting xi

This is where I've got to.

IMO I'd rather upgrade wider team / have some cash for flexibility

Salah is not worth the price, regardless of captaincy.

It's a bit like Kane last season. You know he's going to consistently return, but it's whether you can find other cheaper assets who can match him. With Kane it was possible by jumping on the likes of Watkins and Isak at the right times.

The challenge with going without Salah is choosing the right alternatives, and them actually returning. Salah will score points, he hasn't suddenly become a bad pick. The additional consideration is that Salah is capable of hauling and his fixtures get better in a few weeks.

        This is a good comparison.

Going for the Salah option reduces the need to guess the right 8/9mill MIDs at the right time.

I know buy into the case for Salah a bit more. (Having previously been wholly unconvinced)

WC played. If I don’t turn things around this gw I find it difficult to see it turning all season.
Time to finally have some luck on my side. 🙂
