FFS Mini-Leagues & Community Competitions – Gameweek 12

Welcome to the Fantasy Football Scout mini-leagues and community competitions roundup after a high-scoring Gameweek 12. Especially for those who took the risk of starting Kostas Tsimikas instead of benching him as many did.

As well as mini-leagues, we report on the latest news about FFS Cups, community Head-to-Head Leagues and Last Man Standing. Strikers Keepers Losers Weepers is covered in a separate series of articles.

FFS OPEN CUP

Gameweek 12 was the qualifying round for the open-to-all FFS Open Cup.

Six former winners – donnellyc, Wild Rover, Gribude, A Manager Has No Name, TH14 and 2EyedTurk – have entered and been seeded into round one, while a further 1,018 managers have beaten the qualifying score.

FFS MEMBERS CUP

Similarly, Gameweek 13 will have the FFS Members Cup qualifiers. This is only for Premium Members who registered their FPL teams before the Gameweek 1 deadline and they have until 23:59 GMT on Monday 27 November to enter. Previous winners will be seeded into the first round if they enter.

These are both old-school cup competitions run by Fantasy Football Scout and should not be confused with those listed on FPL’s Leagues & Cups page.

The finalists and the third-place play-off winners from both competitions will receive Amazon vouchers as prizes. See this article for full details.

FFSCOUT OPEN-TO-ALL LEAGUE

Meanwhile, Joe Stait is the new leader of our Fantasy Football Scout mini-league (league code 5k0l6n) and has risen to 17th overall.

Prizes will be awarded to the top ten FFS-registered teams at the end of the season. See this article for full details.

FFSCOUT COMMUNITY MEMBERS LEAGUE

There’s also a new name on top of our Fantasy Football Scout Members mini-league, with Alex Fearn up to 136th globally.

This mini-league is open to anyone who has an FFS account, the league code being visible in the SCOUT LEAGUES widget on the signed-in FFS Home Page.

HEAD-TO-HEAD COMMUNITY MINI-LEAGUES

Qian Hao Ong leads for a sixth successive week and seventh time this season in League 1 of MIR’s FFS Head-to-Head Leagues and has 30 points out of a possible 36.

Moschino Munez in League 7 Division 26 is now the top scorer in the Head-to-Head Leagues with 34 points.

LAST MAN STANDING

The safety score for Gameweek 12 in TorresMagic’s Last Man Standing competition (LMS, league code x9free) was 61 after hits, with 70 teams to be removed.

It means that 879 are going through to Gameweek 13. The LMS leaderboard shows the current live safety score, leaders and teams in danger of being eliminated. New entrants must have passed all the previous safety scores after hits.

Chris Spencer (Annie), who came 741st in 2012/13 and 6,621st in 2015/16, was the top scorer of the Gameweek, with double-digit hauls from Tsimikas, Erling Haaland and captain Mohamed Salah.

MODS & CONS

Kiran Parmar (FPL Brains) has regained top spot from Luke Williams (SuperPuzzleFighter) in the FFScout Mods & Cons mini-league. Previously in front after Gameweeks 7 and 9, Kiran has risen to 6,255th overall.

J Martin (Pilot Flame) leads for a fourth successive week and sixth time this season in the FFScout Family mini-league.

    **NEW LEAGUE**

    2,500 POINTS ANY SEASON

    Code zzpxga

Did some research during the last IB and found that whilst there are leagues for finishing in the top 10k, 1k and 100, there does not appear to be a league for those of us who have scored say 2500 points in a season without it necessarily resulting in a high finish.

Conversely there are numerous managers who have registered a top 10k finish or better but have not surprisingly managed 2500 points in any season.

I will be launching a ‘pilot’ of this league starting in Week 13 (Saturday 25 November). If it proves popular it will have a full season launch in season 2024/25. If you do not currently qualify then you will of course be able to join next season should you achieve 2,500 points in 23/24 season.

Thanks for joining if you should qualify.

Correct. Just testing the water so to speak with a part season league to gauge if worth doing next season.

Yes I know. I could have named this league The Have You Done Well In The Last Three Seasons League? Went for a snappier more marketable title instead. Ha ha.

Let’s see how many join before deciding its future.

      Interesting.
      I've only beaten 2,500 points once myself - 2,573 in 2021/22, when I came 32k.
I didn't score that many in two earlier seasons when I finished in the top 4k.
2021/22 was an unusually high-scoring season, with no less than 13 DGWs, mostly because of COVID postponements.
2,500 points is a much more difficult total to reach in a normal season.
And scores also used to be lower before the introduction of the second wildcard and other chips.

Think I’ll be waiting for another season to enter this one , 45 pts short that’s my best.
Just wondering how many on have got over that figure.
      Cheers

An agonising 9 points short in 21/22 for me. Can't see it happening this year either unless I have a storming rest of the season and no more GW11 calamities...

Simon Marsh only scored 2,470 when he won in 2014/15. He has only beaten 2,500 once - in 2021/22 when he came 48k.

Matt Martyniak only scored 2,472 when he won in 2012/13 and has never scored 2,500+.

Adam Levy has beaten 2,500 twice - in 2018/19 when he won and again in 2021/22 when he came 90th.

Jon Reeson has scored 2,500+ three times - in 2009/10 (another season with multiple DGWs, this time because of postponements caused be bad weather) when he won, and again in 2021/22 when he came 51k and in 2022/23 when he came 63k.

Ali Jahangarov has scored 2,700+ twice - in 2021/22 when he came 215th and in 2022/23 when he won.

Thanks for your detailed stats RL.

I could have set the bar at 2000 points but that would have been like admitting the top 16 teams in the Premier League to the Champions League. Would have been too easy!

I suppose an alternative might be to set it at 2,400 for 2019/20 and earlier, but at 2,500 for 2020/21 onwards.
Perhaps it could be set even higher for 2021/22!

Has its merits but from my point of view as the administrator it would be a nightmare to monitor and check all the entrants met the qualification criteria. Just trying to keep it as simple as possible.

I got 2667 pts in 21/22, and haven't hit 2500 any other time.
So basically, this is a flawed concept - it's too narrow and caters too much for people who did well in that particular year.

      1. Charlie Price
        • 3 Years

I hear you my friend. The bar has been set high which admittedly means that those doing well in more recent years will find it easier to qualify.

Flawed concept? It is no more flawed than say the criteria for entry into the Top 10k, 1k and 100 leagues being more difficult nowadays than say 10 years ago when far fewer played our game.

        Hi CP

I could have chosen to set the bar lower than 2500 points but decided against it. Admittedly, admission to this league is rather heavily weighted in favour of those who have scored well in the last three seasons, but I just wanted to create a league that recognises previous high points scoring and not just high end of season ranking. There seemed to be a gap in the market so to speak.

Hopefully there will be enough interest and qualifying entries to justify creating this league.

Great idea this League. My highest finish ever was 18,253 in season 2014/15 with 2165 points. In season 2021/22 I got 2564 points but finished 39,233. I look forward to competing in this League and hopefully it will continue in the future. Thanks again for setting this League up and good luck with your FPL season.

Thanks for joining my friend and your words of encouragement. My idea has not been universally welcomed by all but given that points scoring has been generally higher in the last three seasons, I felt it was time to test the water with this one. No league appeared to exist of this kind. I may have set the bar on the high side but didn’t want to make qualification too easy.

I am hoping that this season will be high scoring which will result in lots of qualifiers for next season.

Not in my opinion. Either stick with those three or downgrade one of them and play 3-5-2.

The FFS Live Hall of Fame (which, unlike the FFS Career Hall of Fame, can only be viewed by Premium Members) was updated again this morning (Wednesday 15th November) and is now based on results up to and including Gameweek 12.
50,823 managers participating in the Fantasy Football Scout and Fantasy Football Scout Members mini-leagues are now ranked in it.

The new top ten, with FFS Career Hall of Fame positions in brackets, is:
    1(5) Mark Hurst.
    2(1) Finn Sollie.
    3(2) Fábio Borges.
    4(3) Jon Ballantyne.
    5(26) John Walsh.
    6(15) Jan Kępski.
    7(14) Tom Dollimore.
    8(8) Rob Mayes.
    9(16) Frank Pedersen.
    10(4) John Canning.

Since the previous update (after Gameweek 10), Fábio Borges has moved up one place and Jan Kępski two places. Rob Mayes, Frank Pedersen and John Canning have all returned to the top ten, but Markku Ojala, Harry West and Conor’s Team have dropped out.

The top nine are all now inside the overall top 700k, but Mark Hurst (5,144th) and John Walsh (4,703rd) are the only ones currently in the top 10k.

The following leaders of community competitions and mini-leagues featured in the article are also ranked in the top thousand of the updated FFS Live Hall of Fame: Qian Hao Ong 80th, Clive Curran 739th and Cameron Wong 635th.

Only managers currently competing in the Fantasy Football Scout or Fantasy Football Scout Members mini-league are ranked in the FFS Hall of Fame. So if you want to be ranked in it then you have to join one of these mini-leagues.
The FFS Hall of Fame also has a bias towards the most recent seasons - it has even been suggested that it really ought to be called the Hall of Form!
And yes I do remember the great Ville Ronka. He used to be one of the stars of The Great and The Good, and Greyhead named his feeder league (The Next Ville Ronka) after him, but I think he stopped playing a couple of years ago.

511 managers, including six former winners (donnellyc, Wild Rover, Gribude, A Manager Has No Name, TH14 and 2EyedTurk) qualified for round one of the open-to-all FFS Open Cup by scoring 65 points or more after hits in Gameweek 12 (the qualifying round), and so did the highest ranked manager of those who scored 64 (tab.hashimi).

Hamzilla and ulafhai were the joint highest scorers in the qualifying round with 102 points each.

ulafhai (Olavi Oja), who has had four top 7k finishes and leads the Multiple Top 10k Finishes mini-league, was also the highest ranked qualifier (596th), while Hamzilla (Jia Xiang Woo) has had three top 5k finishes.
