GKs have been irrelevant so far. No one is keeping CSs.
Likewise with defences. Only attacking returns make a difference and only Trippier has been a regular threat.
There's a pool of 10 or so mids to choose from.
    Striker options are limited.

It feels like the FPL decisions are mainly based on mids so far this season

should hopefully all change now - rotation/suspension through xmas and then Son/Salah/Mbeumo off in Jan

could do with some new assets emerging - Chelsea for fixture swing?

Was just looking through my scores & I've only got 42pts total from my GKs (started with Johnstone, then moved to Flekken/Leno rotation on WC, now Raya). Pitifully, I would have done better just permastarting Areola!

But I reckon my total score from defenders is probably higher than most as I have spent a bit extra there. I've scored exactly 200pts altogether, playing 3 at the back every week.

4.75 PPG average per defender seems pretty decent.

Anyone else care to add up their GK / DEF scores/averages?

Getting Trippier in right when he started hauling (GW5) is perhaps my only truly successful move of the season! Maybe Son too, but can't think of much else...

Up to the end of last game week - total of 34 for Keeper and 162 for defenders - averages 2.3 for the keeper and 3.6 per defender - truly horrendous!! Played 3 at the back all but one week

It's always the way. The points system overvalues goal scoring OOP mids, who are almost always the top points scorers each season. This game is just about getting the right midfield captain when they haul.

Palmer says there will be split loyalties in the Palmer household if he does realise a childhood visualisation of scoring at the Stretford End.

‘I’m relishing the game,’ he explained. ‘I’ve never played at Old Trafford, so hopefully I play and score a few goals!

‘I’ve got a few friends who will be there who are United fans. They will be in the United end. Then my other mates will be in the Chelsea end. A few of my family are City fans, a few are United. It’ll be interesting

Rehashing a comment I posted yesterday...

Only had Saka & Trippier together in my team one gameweek (GW7).

      Since then (GW8-GW15):
      39 Points - Trippier (2.96 xGI)
      39 Points - Saka (3.00 xGI)

Trippier still has this GW to play & Saka missed out 1 GW (GW8).

With the state of other defenders & the amount of viable midfielders, it's just an interesting one.

... Mbuemo is the only one from your midfield I'd consider dropping otherwise, but he plays SHU next.

Darwin to Solanke is another option.

Counterpoint- Saka is way underperforming his xGI

Trippier has been outperforming his xGI, playing for a team decimated by injuries which are due to catch up with them soon.

You are reading those numbers incorrectly.

Saka has been outperforming his xGI. His numbers suggest he should have involvement in 3 goals across those GWs. He in fact has 5 assists and 1 goal.

Trippier's xGI suggest he should have been involved in 2.96 goals across that period. He has in fact been involved in 3 goals (3 assists, 0 goals).

So if anything Saka is over performing his numbers & Trippier is bang-on what he's putting up.

Trippier just gets more points too becuae of clean sheets and bonus.

I down graded Watkins to Dolanke this week to free up the additional funds and allow me to bring Trippier in. Its risky not having Watkins but I think over the festive period Trippier and Solanke outscored Watkins and (a 4.5m def/Cash - in my instance)

If you are considering a Newcastle Tripple up, bear in mind that if you went for Dubravka (like a lot have), and have Gordon too already, your options to shift to another striker to free up Watkins funds will be limited further (Isak/Wilson blocked out)

The yellow card suspension target increases from 5 to 10 after teams have played 19 matches, so probably not worth it unless they were about to be rested in the next match anyway.

José Mourinho: “I remember a game in Siena, with Maicon. They said he always got a fifth yellow to be suspended at Christmas, so he could go on vacation to Brazil. I went to him and said that if he got a yellow he wouldn't be going on vacation, I'm not an idiot. He asked if he scored, could he go? I said 'No, only if you score two.' In the game, he scored two goals, received a yellow card for taking his shirt off and he went on vacation. I also gave him an extra week off.”

This gives me some confidence in getting him. Thanks for posting that.

Got 2 FT so may do Turner to Dubravka and Mitoma to Hee Chan.

Definitely increases the confidence in him, but unfortunately Howe is a liar and obstructs the truth all the time.

At worst you get 5 games out of him and the cheapest route into the Newcastle defence.

Even if he loses his place, Areola's first two fixtures in January are Sheff U and Bournemouth, so it's not like an urgent transfer would be required.

I was actually surprised Dubravka was still at Newcastle playing back up. Certainly a fine Prem level keeper. Certainly in the top 12 or so keepers in the Prem.

Currently have the exact money for Cash & Guehi to James & Porro.
Plan is to do them over the next 2 weeks for free.

Good moves? Or should I hold some change back incase I want to change Nunez?

    Areola
    Branthwaite Lascelles Gabriel
    Salah Son Saka Mbuemo Gibbs-White
    Haaland Nunez

    Dubravka Cash Guehi Mubama

James would very much be a wait and see. He won't start each GW over the December fixtures. And his injury history is pretty serious.

Seems less and less likely so Boomo could be an option too. I would’ve thought they would need to confirm before the weekend if it was going forward

Weighing up one of these moves with 1ft:

    Saliba to Porro
    or
    Gabriel to Colwill/Badiashile

Other defenders are Taylor, Tsimi and Lascelles. Double Ars def has left me high and dry I’m afraid.

I think the Porro move is a gw too early. Spurs will concede vs Newcastle.
Do you have other areas that need addressing?
If not, I'd save ft and reassess next gw.

I like the rest of the squad but will see who’s left standing after today and tomorrow. I think you’re right but I do like Porro’s upside in that game as it is at home. Appreciate the input!

Is James really essential or can I cover Chelsea defense with Colwill? I have the money to go from Guehi to James but not sure if he is worth the extra money when I can get Colwill for far less

James no where near being "essensial" atm imo.
Remember, he hasnt scored more than 4 points in a single game this season, and is just as likely to become injured again during warm up against United.

Evening all.Best way to get Haaland? Will not sell Son/Trippier/Salah.

    Areola
    AitNouri/Trippier/Tsimikas
    Mbeumo/Salah/Bowen/Son/Saka
    Nunez/Alvarez

    Raya/Watkins/Gabriel/Taylor

Without selling those 3, the easiest route I can see is:

      Nunez to Semenyo
      Saka to Gordon
      Watkins to Haaland

    2) Why don't you ever learn ?

Most of my team is locked in for a lot of GWs, so should he get a ban og an injury he will simply be swapped out again?

These players won't be sold in the next many GWs:
Areola, Dubravka, TAA, Trippier, Salah, Son, Saka, Mbeumo, Palmer, Haaland,

These can't be sold unless I re-structure and spread funds:
      Baldock, Taylor, Semenyo, Archer

So I can either do Tsimikas -> James or upgrade Baldock to 4.8
Either way I think he is a decent punt.
