Very good article Simon and whilst I do try to be differential it sometimes really stings when it backfires. Going with richarlson at the start of the season vs Mbeumo and then Darwin vs Watkins has had me well back in rank. Unfortunately content creators are copied and followed and their moves can be very similar if not identical to what I see in my mini leagues.

Yes totally agree, good article and makes you think. Going for differentials/risky moves is now even more dangerous. Content creators have changed things considerably as there are now so many players that just copy their fav content creator and can now achieve much better ranks than they would ever have been able to previously.

Eze over Mbuemo at the first 6 GW's. I just didn't realize he would get so many pens. I did realize Eze and Olise are needed together for any creativity and made that mistake.

I actually wanted to go against and have some differential picks to start with. Like Salah. But then sold for GW3, when he missed the penalty against Bournemouth, another mistake going more template.

It certainly has made the ML more difficult.

I like FPL shows like above average FPL (very spurs though), Blackbox and FPL wire, and some FPL planet/scout.

FPL last show is OK, as he answers Twitter questions. Burning Questions used to be good with Pras, but he isnt so much of a content creator, as he provides many more shows. FPL Harry has ruined it, as he just talks about decisions regarding his team, and even as chats for opinions. Being a guest, sure, but not presenting it.

Just shows content creator channels shouldn't be allowed to present shows on FPL Scout, as it ruins them. I like David, Sonaldo etc, as it isnt about them, its about analysis, whether it is through, data, or eye test

I think it is a case of him needing a rest more than anything. Arsenal already qualified in first before the game so they rested all the key attacking players I think he should be fine for the weekend (as a hopeful Martinelli owner)

I think this is most prevalent in content creators whose sole income derives from FPL content creation (and associated activities). They essentially become brands and have to work hard to maintain (let alone grow) the brand (and, by extension, their income). That, in turn, almost forces them toward providing middle-of-the-road advice in order to maintain a decent rank history, which (or so I've been told) is important to people who consume their content.

How long will it be, I wonder, before a new breed of content creators comes to the fore with their USP being "alternative" FPL advice?

Injuries and players out of favour racking up. Was planning on either Darwin or Haaland to Watkins for a -4 (depeneding on if Haaland is fit or not) however with the Maguire injury, dubravka & Gordon doubt and Cash being out of favour do you have any other suggestions? Already done my FT which was Lampety > Porro.

    Dubravka
    Cash / Zinchenko / Porro
    Salah / Saka / Gordon / Son / Palmer
    Haaland / Darwin

    Areola / Archer / Tsimikas / Maguire

What would you change on this wildcard?
    Plan is to do Solanke+TAA -> Haaland+Saliba/Gabriel before GW19

    (4.7 itb)
    Dubravka (Turner)
    TAA/Porro/Pau (Mykolenko, Taylor*)
    Salah/Son/Saka/Gordon/Palmer
    Watkins/Solanke (Osula)

      Taylor.

      Dubravka possibly too.

Don't know much about Osula but why not Alvarez or Cunha in that slot?

I'd probably hold Gordon and Palmer thinking about it and switch Salah and Son towards Brighton midfielders when getting Haaland back in around gw20/21 etc.

I only have 2 playing defenders this week, and one of those is Gabriel who played the full 90 minutes yesterday, so I'm doubtful he'll start on the weekend now.

Like many others, my team totally in the mud this week!

    1. Miguel Sanchez
      • 9 Years

I think Gabriel starts this week but Brighton are on some ludicrous consecutive scoring run in the league under De Zerbi so I wouldn't expect an Arsenal clean sheet this week regardless.

I have problems too with Trippier suspended and Maguire (liv) and Guehi (mci) with about the hardest fixtures.

Bayern and two teams they should beat easily.

Look it's just unfortunate they also had to play the Turkish and Danish league superpowers.

Indeed. I think we need to call a doctor as we appear to have a severe case of delusionitis amongst us.

I feel for the supporters a little but what type of support do United garner? It cannot be a personal tie and certainly not kids chasing winners. I have always supported English, Scottish, Welsh and Irish sides, but I sort of draw the line on United.

Mostly glory hunters who picked the team that was top of the league when they first started following football.

        They could've come 2nd? Or even 3rd?

Not like they played Bayern 6 times.

If you said 10 years ago Gala and Copen would be better than United, people would laugh.

Need serious surgery on my fantasy team at the moment and not sure where to start first. At the moment going into GW17 with potentially only 8 players. Currently top but the chasing pack are catching up.

    Team (0.0m ITB) -

    Areola
    ----------------------------------
Tsimikas - Zinchenko - Livramento - Trippier (RED)
    ----------------------------------
    Salah - Son - Sterling
    -----------------------------------
    Watkins - D. Nunez - Haaland (ORANGE)
    -----------------------------------
SUBS: Turner - C. Taylor (RED) - Anderson (RED) - Chukwuemeka (RED)

Paying the price for going all out on my starting 11 and a cheap bench.

Yep, you're flubbed. This week is probably a write off anyway so might be a good time for a hit-fest.

Will growing a beard and dying my hair brown improve my FPL skills?

If you're making content, you probably have to gravitate toward the safe, because it's easier to defend if it goes wrong. If you stick your neck out, and people are following also putting their necks on the block via copying your content, they will be backlash if it goes wrong. Which can't be fun on the Internet.

I do think people really get overly dramatic about the template strength though.

    1. I find it hard to believe there's been a point in FPL history where there wasn't a small number of standard picks (the template) from engaged players.
    2. The pool of players on the template is greater these days. But sometimes complaints about this feel like people who got an edge 10 years ago from FFS getting mad that others have got an edge through you tube videos 5 years ago whoa are getting mad that others have got an edge through solvers 2 years ago. Like gatekeeper stuff.
    3. Even with the strongest template, there are still differences inside the template. It's 30-50 players not a strict 15. You just need to be good and/or lucky with them. Ask the 50% with Son vs the 50% without Son last week.

I could probably go on, but there's a Simon March article in exploring this fully.

      1. Yep. There must have been a template, we just didn't all know what it was.
      2. Yep.
      3. Yep.
      Yep.

      Have an uptick.
