As we approach Gameweek 18 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL), 36 players are on the cusp of a ban as a result of yellow card accumulation.
We’ve got all you need to know in the article below.
WHEN ARE THE CUT-OFF POINTS FOR SUSPENSIONS?
The table above is taken from the Football Association website and details the cut-off points for the various yellow card thresholds.
The one we’re concerned about right now is the five-caution mark, an unwanted target that Premier League players will have to avoid for their team’s first 19 league matches of the season.
That’ll be Gameweek 19 in most cases. Manchester City and Brentford, who contest their 19th fixture in Gameweek 20, are two exceptions. Unless Bournemouth v Luton Town is replayed in midweek, we can add the Cherries and the Hatters to that short list.
Of course, any postponements, whether they be weather-related or otherwise, would change that situation.
Punishments for yellow card accumulation are competition-specific, whereas suspensions for dismissals cover all competitive matches.
ON FOUR/THREE YELLOW CARDS
Darwin Nunez (£7.6m), Kaoru Mitoma (£6.5m) and Joachim Andersen (£5.0m) joined the ranks of the Premier League players on the suspension precipice in the Gameweek just gone.
Cole Palmer (£5.6m), Jamaal Lascelles (£4.2m), Matty Cash (£4.7m), Raheem Sterling (£7.1m) and Hwang Hee-chan (£5.8m) were already on four bookings.
Other notable names sat precariously on four cautions include Issa Kabore (£4.0m) and Abdoulaye Doucoure (£5.6m).
There are 45 other players one caution further back.
Trent Alexander-Arnold (£8.2m), Ollie Watkins (£8.6m), Pedro Porro (£5.5m), Ben White (£5.6m), Emi Martinez (£5.1m) and Andre Onana (£4.8m) are among the most significant names on three yellow cards, all of them with FPL ownerships of 10%+.
WHO IS CURRENTLY SUSPENDED – AND WHO WILL RETURN FROM A BAN IN GAMEWEEK 17?
Only two players reached five bookings at the weekend: Destiny Udogie (£4.8m) and Frank Onyeka (£4.9m).
There was a flurry of red cards in Gameweek 17, however.
Ben Mee (£4.8m), Raul Jimenez (£5.3m) and Boubacar Kamara (£5.0m) will now serve three match-bans as a result of their dismissals, while Yves Bissouma (£5.0m) has been handed a four-game suspension as his sending off was his second of 2023/24.
In Jimenez’s case, one of those matches will be in this week’s EFL Cup quarter-finals.
Diogo Dalot (£5.1m) will only have to sit out Gameweek 18, as his dismissal was for two bookable offences.
Kieran Trippier (£6.9m), Bruno Fernandes (£8.2m), Lucas Digne (£4.7m), Douglas Luiz (£5.5m), Jarrad Branthwaite (£4.1m), Charlie Taylor (£4.0m), Idrissa Gueye (£4.8m), Jack Robinson (£4.4m) and Jordan Ayew (£5.4m) all return from bans in Gameweek 18.
Marvelous Nakamba (£4.4m) will still be suspended, however, after the abandonment of Bournemouth v Luton Town.
Ivan Toney (£7.9m) and Sandro Tonali (£5.2m) are out until January and August respectively.
