Similar position. I went for it.

Leaves a bit exposed for 34 and/or 37 but I think both can be navigated. Plus as you say, there are 6-8 players that are season holds anyway.

No. Ake is alright for now and Porro will play Palace in 27 plus Fulham in 29.

Jota and Turner out this week, Nunez can leave next week.

I'd actually do Jota and Darwin and consider not taking a hit for a goalkeeper or defender. Gomez would be my priority out over GK
      You'd have 9 starting outfield players this week for a -4. -8 for 10.
Who you bring in depends on FH29 or not

A huge red arrow with Haaland TC, I am currently worse off after doing Richarlison Bowen TAA to KDB Jota Doughty -4 and I benched Solanke and everyone in my 11 played, pretty incredible really how bad ones luck can be.

Unlucky. This GW has been more about who you kept than brought in. I TC'd Haaland and other than Walker my DGW players flopped but thanks to single GW players 102 point has resulted in a green arrow and more than 50% rank change. I did make the mistake of selling Solanke for Darwin though.

Wolves not known to receive many penalties. They have got 3 till date which accounts for 1 in 8 games. Only 3 last season and 1 before that. So I wouldnt put too much emphasis on this.

Fwiw, Sarabia has a 100% record of scoring penalties. Hwang has 78% with 2 penalties missed.

Was Haaland TC really a fail given he outscored most of the other popular picks ( Darwin, Jota, KDB, Foden)?

    1. Nate(U)dog(ie)
      • 5 Years
      1 year, 9 months ago

It's a fail in relation to the fixtures, what was expected of him and the chances he missed. Him beating a player that was injured and subbed at HT, another player that was injured and subbed before HT, a player that only featured once (and should have hauled given the chances he made) and another that blanked twice isn't really that great is it?

      1. el polako
        • 8 Years

        Mane was a fail.
        Sane was a fail.

I shall never call a player who returned a fail.

But I guess it’s all relative.

    2. Holmes
      • 12 Years

depends if other popular picks were just normal captain or TC.

As a Haaland TCer I am disappointed, although I'd personally only consider it to be a true fail if he didn't return at all. Having said that I have TCed Sane for his 1 pointer and the infamous Lewis Dunk for his triple fixture in the past.

Either way Im happy that Haaland at home twice, ahead of CL fixtures was a sensible decision so not going to dwell on it.

Nah given the majority of engaged managers TC’d him, became a non-event. All of the top 8 in one of the leagues I’m in TC’d him so didn’t make a difference

    6. Kingy109
      • 4 Years

You'd feel Solanke has a great chance to do better in GW28. If so in hindsight that may have been the right call. Of course he may blank twice and miss a pen!
For those chasing it's a missed opportunity to catch up.
And always in FPL you can only control the decision not the outcome and many confuse the two

I mean, compared to the 3 points I got from Kane’s plum fixtures a few seasons ago, it’s a big w.

It’s a story of what could have been, however, given that Haaland racked up 1.7xG *on his own* in the Chelsea fixture.

Overall I think it went okay-ish, and the chip has been played now. Onwards and upwards!

10 points is below average for sure, but even if you consider 15 points as average you are talking about a 5 point loss in a season where you score well over 2000 points overall. It's a drop in the ocean and TC gets disproportionately talked about and focused on (appreciating the irony here!)

Anyone else struggling with justifying transferring in GW29 players?

Was originally set on navigating the blank with FTs and a couple of hits, but with the likes of Hee Chan, Gross and Garnacho it seems probable that I’ll miss out on more net points in the immediate future by making long-term (i.e., GW29-oriented) transfers.

Not feeling it with the likes of Bowen, D. Luiz etc…

    2. aapoman

Depends on the rest of your team. I'm planning on bringing in D. Luiz for Palmer. I have Garnacho who I can rotate D. Luiz with so it is an easy move for me

    3. Nate(U)dog(ie)
      • 5 Years
      1 year, 9 months ago

Yep, that's why I'm rolling FT this week to see the full makeup of GW29 before I make my next transfer, an extra fixture would make navigating it with transfers easier but I may just FH if it stays as is. That being said I have Bowen and am sick of it even though I've been able to bench him a lot in recent weeks.

Yup, this. It just feels wrong now to sell players who have been top performers AND has gained value, in favour of the pretty meh bunch of players we have to choose from in gw29 thus far.

      • 1 Year

I think you've got to not only think of until GW29, but after it as well. Some other gameweeks that you might want to go for later on with the free hit and hopefully get more points overall. It's a tough one, but I've gone Bowen/Douglas Luiz

    5. bitm2007

Yes that's part of the reason I'm committed to FH GW29 strategy unless there are major upsets in the Cup before then.

      FH GW29, WC GW35/36, BB GW37

      Allows you to

Use FTs to strengthen your current squad (including BGW26 and more DGW28'ers) without worrying about who blanks and doesn't in GW29.

Keep the in form highly owned players you currently have TV tied up in for another 9 to 10 GW's whilst still fielding a full 11 in GW29.

WC later to set up BB than if you dead ended into GW29.

I don't currently see no FH in GW34 being a major issue.

There will be 5FTs between GW29 and GW34 to bring in DGWers if necessary, but GW34 could just be a single GW if the weekend postponed fixtures are moved to midweek, and if City and Pool make the FA Cup semi finals they will only have a maximum of one PL fixture that GW, Spurs also won't double if City make the semi, and Arsenal chances depend on Wolves not making the semi final, and their GW29 fixture v Chelsea if it's postponed being moved to GW34, not GW37.

This is all very sensible. We have been in similar situations before however and the FA Cup usually finds a way of getting everyone not persuing this sort of strategy "off the hook" (I remember one year in particular when Spurs were upset in the 5th round when literally everyone had Kane, Alli and a defender from them)

This! A very good and very detailed comment. Thanks for all the nitty gritty info. I think it has solidified my thinking around navigating gw29/34/37, especially as I’m currently on just four gw29ers in my team. Removing good players from my squad and missing out on potentially great performers such as Gross/Hwang/Garnacho feels wrong for my team at least.

Thanks for taking the time to flesh this out

He created 7 chances on Saturday, more than any other player on the day and only eclipsed by Groß hitting a record of 8 on Sunday against one of the worst sides we've ever seen in the division who were also down to 10. If Haaland or any of the others he created chances for finished them off then you wouldn't say that.

Estu is now not guaranteed a start, so Palmer > Saka/Hwang/Gross could field you a stronger XI if you don't lose much value on Palmer.

Await any Estu news, but you'd expect Saka to outscore him by 4 pts if you are thinking short-term.

    Hi, morning all.
I have taken a -8 and arrived at this team.

    Areola (Allison)
    Gabriel Saliba Trippier (Branthwaite Doughty)
    KDB Foden Saka Luiz (Palmer)
    Watkins Solanke Haaland

Initially I was dead set on trying to save my WC and FH for post week 30.
I'm assuming just Luton-Forest will be added to gw29, which leaves me with 4 players

    Areola
    Doughty
    Luiz
    Watkins

With 3FT between now and then, that'll only get me up to 7 players, so surely a FH is needed for me in 29?

And if that is the case, why would I not WC earlier to take advantage of the upside from United, Wolves and make the most of dgw28?

Seriously tempted to WC now, cancel the -8 and attack the fixtures.

Thanks for bearing with - any thoughts greatly appreciated

I'm in the exact same boat. Biting the bullet as I promised myself I WILL NOT wildcard before we have the Cup information.
Hence WC GW 27 for me.

That is true, I think if Chelsea lose then the arsenal Chelsea game goes ahead? Yeah, prob best to wait

          Not just that,
Man United could go ahead, instead of the Luton - Forest game too
Wolves - Bournemouth might also go ahead.

The options you'll then tackle in a WC (If you even still need one) will be vastly different.

Can anyone offer some advice on a couple of appealing defenders over the next few weeks?

How many weeks? Bournemouth's run of bur/SHU/LUT/EVE/CRY looks pretty appealing. I might even double on Senesi/Neto on WC

Thanks Menta, Tbf it could be a long term pick. I was looking at Bmouth and Villa mostly.
        Defence is a shambles:

Estu (no longer nailed) / Regu (meh) / Bell (blanks) / Saliba / Baldock*

Mine is a mess too: Estupinan, Moreno, Bradley, Trippier & Al-Dakhil.

Looking to WC into (next week):
Gabriel, Senesi, TAA (or VVD/Robbo, or Doughty as placeholder), Branthwaite & a fodder 3.8 for last bench

            * we might be on different chip plans though. I'm ignoring 29 (FH)

            Mine wins
Estup - Daughty (Blanks) - Pinnock (injured) - Bradley (Blanks) - Senesi (MCI away)

I basically might only have 1 defender, away to city this week.
            Id rather have 0 honestly...

Probably. Could be 2pts each? Estu, Moreno, Senesi all 1? Trippier 0 (hopefully!)

Yeh I think that's a good plan for you, I was looking into Branthwaite as well. Doughty got some more doubles

    Dubravka
    Gabriel, Van Hecke
    Hee Chan, Foden, Kdb, Saka,
    Archer, Haaland, Watkins

    Turner, Palmer, Porro, Doughty, Guehi

    0FT 5.4 ITB

Porro > Maguire -4 worth it to field 11?

    Thanks

    Thoughts on this GW27 WC?
    Any objections/red flags I might have included/missed?
And who from the x/y below do you prefer?

    Flekken - Neto

Gabriel - Senesi - Daughty - Romero / Pau - Gusto / Branthwaite / Van Hecke / Maguire (or two of these instead of Romero / Pau)

Saka - Salah - Richarlison - Hee Chan - Palmer

    Watkins - Solanke - Haaland

Ofcourse all subject to Cup results and draws, but this is my baseline.

No. With 2 transfers I can field 8 players.
Good enough for that 29.... I'll only be missing Son/Maddison

Not many players with an expected fixture in blank GW29 in there but if you are planning to FH that GW it looks fine. Udogie over Romero if fit.

You have 5 and that’s if you include Pau and Romero?

I have enough transfer to be able to change 1 player per week to get a full 11 out in 29.

Would you bring in Pau Torres this week and just be done with it? Or bring in Saliba until GW29? If I bring in Saliba, this would mean a -4 to take him out later on to get a full 11 out for GW29 (subject to Chelsea progressing)

    Thanks

Don't think you'll "need" 11 in GW29 if it stays as is, 10 without hits will be a lot better than most will achieve with those fixtures so I'd go Saliba now

brighton, arsenal (could afford trossard), wolves, villa, west ham (poor form) and palace (ayew?) all have great fixtures over the next 3 gws, so many cheapish options who seem great, very exciting times! No doubt I'll pick the wrong player though:)

Gross seems possibly like the best option but can he carry on the run he's in? I am tempted doubling villa attack as I already own watkins. who are you going for?

I actually went Saka as the fixtures before blank are great from an attacking prospective and also because I took him out for Jota 2 GW’s ago to possible have done the worst transfer of all time.

That being said, Kudus, Bowen, Bailey, Dougy Lu all look good options to prepare for blank 29.

If you got the dollar to Saka or Odegaard I would probably do that and worry about the blank in 28.

My wrecked defense currently, already rid of Jota.

    Martinez GK

Gabriel, Estupinan (rotation risk), Doughty (blanks), Porro (injured), Baldock (injured)

I guess I have to take the hit to remove at least 1 to try fill 11. Any suggestions?

I might not even have 10 though if Estup doesn't play. I only have 1 defender atm lol

wolves defence probably best option this gw. or you could anticipate the dgw for bournemouth and pick senesi, at least the -4 could play off later on. unlikely cs this gw though...

General dilemma atm for me is whether Arsenal double def or have Villa Defender like Pau. Risk approach could be Liverpool def for short term.

Yeah just realised that, brain's fried this morning ignore that lol. I guess either double arsenal def or villa def. I have maguire who has 3/4 good fixtures but unsure if i'd take him in over above.

Need some help as i've completely bugg'rd up my last few weeks going against my normally sensible appproach i.e. taking Saka out before points, playing estu this week Maguire with Solanke and Van Hecke on bench. (lol).

I have potentially 10 playing this week, Turner isn't playing and god knows if Estu will play, might come on for another 5 mins again.

Is it worth taking a -4 for a keeper or to take Estu out?...I have enough for any keeper or another Arsenal or Villa def.

I said the the same last week and he came on for 5 mins lol. At half time Lamptey either came on or off and someone else was played instead of Estu which makes me a bit anxious.

i have 2 fts and can field 11 by removing palmer and darwin so I am going to take the gamble and keep a player who has a fixture, as frustrating as he can be...gl 🙂

Jota to Saka? (Assuming no injuries from tonight's Arsenal game).

Also.... Wudnt mind getting Hwang in also ... But that would mean transferring out Garnacho or Richarlison. Yay or nay?

      yes to Saka
