My own strategy is a bit different to the above as i wildcarded last week, aiming to have a bit of flexibility depending on the outcome of the cup games. My working assumption was I would free hit 29, but this is my alternative plan to navigate 29 WITHOUT using FH. Would give me 4 x doublers* and 9 x 29ers^ for a 4-point hit.

    Raya, Neto*
    Gabriel, Udogie^, Doughty*^, Ait-Nouri, Pau^
    Saka, Son^, Foden, Hwang, Garnacho
    Haaland, Toney^, Watkins^

    GW27: Hwang to Barkley*^
    GW28: Haaland to Solanke* (c)
    GW29: Garnacho & Foden to Bowen^ & Bailey^ (4 point hit)

Respective form/availability of Salah/Haaland will determine moves from 30 onwards, but loose plan involves another 4-pointer and having both in the squad by 31.

You look at the pros and cons and it's still pretty bewildering the lengths people will go to to save a FH.

I get that the FH in gw34 is v useful.

But by and large people building a team to avoid FH29 are banking on Villa, Spurs and West Ham players to perform.

Could work but could be dicey, Villa look fine ... Is Bowen really back in business and Spurs too?

    1. The Knights Template

Think I’m sure to free hit. I can double in Arsenal defence etc and build for games after 29 too to wildcard later.

    1. The Knights Template

Good luck! I already have double Arsenal defence, including the gw both scored, even though tis shameful to boast, and have six for gw29. I can get that to nine with a hit. Missing two players, defenders, and taking a -4, seems a small price to pay for a FH in 34 where I will load up on DGWers and come from behind like Superimpose in the 1992 W.S. Cox Plate! Here comes Super!

The article doesn't mention that Chelsea are likely to have a DGW 35 or 36 against Spurs or Brighton. That is a major potential pro for those planning to FH 29, WC 35, BB 37 as you could bring in 6 players that are going to double twice in 2 or 3 GWs.on WC.

      That seems a sound approach.

A WC33 might be better but it's worth holding too for an injury crises in your squad.

You are right about the extra double, but the landscape will be known with high certainty by GW31 anyway. So I don’t see how it gives material advantage to WC35 over WC30/31. Both will likely have Petrovic + Palmer.

    So much confusion!
Currently have 4 players from BGW29.

FH29 would solve all problems but is it really worth it with the teams on offer?

If I don't go the FH route then I would need to start buying only for 29 which means foregoing Solanke and Luton assets totally which seems ridiculous with the decent DGW28 they have.

With a -8 hit I can get 8 players playing in 29, along with Solanke in GW28.

If just Wolves had lost in the cup then it would have been an easy decision to delay the FH and keep it for later with Solanke also playing in 29.

I generally don't prefer to take hits but these next 3 GWs are a doozy.

    1. The Knights Template
      • 12 Years

Everyone will be hitting at some stage over the next two GWs. Luton play gw29, so Doughty and Ross the Boss and Morris are firmly in the picture.

I would not agree that it is a definite FH. You can still get 3 good players for 29 with free transfers. Say, Son, Bowen and Douglas Luis. How much more transfers will a FH score over your team given there are only 4 games in GW? If you are scared of Toney hattrick, Brentford CS, high scoring Luton game, then yeah FH is reasonable. If you just lose 4x or 5x appearance points, then a FH is a waste in my view.

What I definitely would not do is getting 29 players for hits and then selling them back for hits.

There are only 4 games. Some of them will be low scoring for sure. You really need Brentford to win 4-0 or Luton - Forest be like 3-3 to get an advantage. Because everyone will have Watkins, Son, etc.

I am strongly considering lining up 6-7 players in 29. Losing 5-8 points vs the crowd would be great. Losing more than 12-15 would be a mistake.

Do you prefer KDB or Foden for the Man Utd fixture? Whoever I go with is pretty much just a Salah placeholder, so likely just for one or two games (presumably Kev will be a safe starter for Liverpool also). I thought Man Utd looked quite open through the middle v Fulham. Amrabat at LB could be worth targeting, but then with Stones back I guess Foden would be tasked with holding width more (fewer Walker overlaps?) or he could also end up at LW

Difficult to look past big game Kev.

Don't think ETH will risk Amrabat LB, might shift Lindelof LB and Evans CB. Wait and see what the team predictions look like.

I am going with just Haaland in my WC. They haven't been scoring loads.

Yeah that was how I originally set up at the start of the week but its been a bumpy WC. Considered Ødegaard/Martinelli also but now if Richarlison is out I'll probably stick the 2nd Arsenal mid in his spot instead

I am planning to go with this midfield:

          Saka Son Maddison Bowen Barkley

Ignoring Salah for now? Might be the right play, hard to gauge where he's at

Yes ignoring him. Will now look at him in GW30. Saving an FT for that.

KDB is the key to unlocking Haaland as the Luton game showed

Yeah that has been the case all along. They just read each other’s game so well.

With a punt on King Kev for just a few games you've got to land lucky.

      Foden safer bet tbf.

Lucky with returns or fitness? He looked really sharp and quicker in his sprints v Luton than I expected. Think there's an element of risk/luck to Foden now too with the predicted lineup here putting him at LW?

What player´s would you take now if you are thinking about GW 27-29 and WC in GW 30 ???

No defenders. Son, Toney, Watkins, Rich

Martinelli is the one to captain this gw imo. I would bring him in but have to plan for gw29

Hm I noticed Sheff Utd have been conceding most chances down his flank & he wasn't far off a haul v Newcastle. I won't captain but might get him in for a couple weeks

Yeah, Sheffield will put two players on Saka, Martinelli will have a lot more space

Big day for pressers. Was really sure that I won't use FH in 29 and would WC 30/31 but if Richarlison, Porro, Pau and Solanke are all out until 28/29 then might just press the WC...

    A) Hwang > Maddison/L.Douglas
    B) Upgrade defense

    Areola
    Brantwaithe - Gabriel - Taylor
    Palmer - Saka - Foden - KDB
    Solanke* - Watkins - Haaland

    Turner - Doughty - Hwang* - Porro*

A if you must. I would play Doughty over Taylor, I think

Would you free hit this or go with the plan (below), that leaves me with 9 GW29 players including a -8:

    Areola
    Schär-Dalot-Pau-Estupinan-Bradley
    KdB-Foden-Richarlison-D.Luiz-Saka
    Haaland-Watkins-Archer

    Plan for saving FH:
    GW27: roll
    GW28: Bradley/KdB/Archer -> Doughty/Bowen/Solanke (-4)
    GW29: Foden/Solanke -> Son/Toney (-4)
    GW30: ?
    GW31: WC

Here we go, 15 press conferences today following on from the four we had yesterday.

Nuno is the odd man out but it turns out he did his straight after full-time on Wednesday, with the quotes embargoed till yesterday (will cover those in today's article, all you Ola Aina owners). Thank you, sir.

    9.30am - Howe
    12.30pm - Guardiola, Klopp, Pochettino
    1pm - Postecoglou, O'Neil, Glasner
1.30pm - Moyes, Silva, De Zerbi, Frank, Edwards, Kompany, Iraola
    2pm - Emery

    Times in GMT.

Do we know why the presser times were late today? Was Neale having a lie in like Arteta yesterday?

They weren't. The first press conf wasn't until 09:30 GMT

I'm talking about the schedule/the times not the press conferences themselves. Hub posted the press conference times an hour before scout.

Friday press conferences are probably the biggest event of the gameweek bar the deadline. People are desperate to know what time they can expect crucial team news.
