Eliteserien Fantasy 2024 guide: Odds, fixtures, chips + more

Welcome to Eliteserien Fantasy 2024! It’s brilliant to see so many newcomers to the game, so I thought I’d try to put together a beginner’s guide of sorts to help get you oriented. Just bear in mind that I am very much included in the ‘beginner’ bracket myself…

I won’t spend much time covering the game format here as it should be immediately familiar to FPL players, with just a few twists on the chips:

  • ‘Attack! Attack!’ – double points for all your forwards
  • ‘Rich Uncle’ – a free hit chip with unlimited budget for that Gameweek
  • The self-explanatory ‘Two Captains’

The main aim of this article is to provide a basic orientation with Eliteserien’s top (and bottom) clubs and an overview of the initial schedule, which features early blanks and doubles.

BOOKIES’ ODDS TO WIN TITLE

So, first up, let’s have a look at the odds of winning the title this season, to give a rough idea of the expected hierarchy:

  1. Bodø/Glimt 2.15
  2. Molde 4.00
  3. Brann 4.50
  4. Viking 15
  5. Rosenborg 21
  6. Lillestrøm 25
  7. Sarpsborg 30
  8. Tromsø 100
  9. Odd 150
  10. Strømsgodset 150
  11. Haugesund 300
  12. HamKam 300
  13. Fredrikstad 300
  14. Sandefjord 300
  15. Kristiansund 500
  16. KFUM Oslo 750

Bodø/Glimt and Molde, fresh off their European adventures during the offseason for Norway, occupy the top two spots. A Bodø/Glimt victory would secure their fourth title in the last five seasons, while Molde won in 2022 & 2019.

Brann have had a much more turbulent recent history: third in 2018, relegated to the First Division in 2021, promoted in 2022 and second on their return to the Eliteserien last year.

Of the three promoted sides, minnows KFUM Oslo are making their first-ever appearance in the Eliteserien and this is clearly reflected by the bookies’ odds. Kristiansund return after just one season in the First Division, while Fredrikstad are fancied to be a slight cut above at joint 11th.

FIXTURE DIFFICULTY

Next, let’s have a look at a fixture ticker for the first eight Gameweeks (source: https://www.viewfantasystats.com/eliteserien/fdr-planner/)

Eliteserien Fantasy 2024

The predicted top three – Bodø, Molde and Brann – also sit atop the fixture ticker for the opening eight Gameweeks.

A Double Gameweek 3 for Brann and Molde, aligned with appealing fixtures before and after, makes these two clubs an excellent place to begin your draft. If your initial strategy is to attack the Double Gameweek, you might also want to consider supplementing Brann & Molde double/triple-ups with the mid-priced options from Odd and HamKam.

EARLY CHIP?

The early Double Gameweek also presents an opportunity to deploy one of your chips. Since Molde and Brann players are quite expensive, Rich Uncle could be an option to enable a frontline that includes last season’s top scorer Bård Finne (BRA, 11.5m) and Molde talisman Fredrik Gulbrandsen (11m).

Alternatively, ‘Rich Uncle’ could be held for Double Gameweek 10, which includes Bodø, Brann, Rosenborg and Tromsø.

‘Attack! Attack!’ is another option for Double Gameweek 3, as the current template frontline appears to be Finne, Gulbrandsen and Kirkevold (HAM, 6m). Odd forward Børven (7.5m) looks a promising alternative to Kirkevold if you want to triple up on doublers. Viking’s Salvesen (8.5m) has been banging in preseason, although tough fixtures Bodø and Brann in GWs 2 & 3 may be slightly off-putting.

ATTACK V DEFENCE

As always, when using a fixture ticker with just one colour per game, it’s worth considering where defensive difficulty and attacking difficulty are flattened.

To help identify the teams which might be, for example, a good fixture for your attackers but a bad fixture for your defenders, I’ve also put together a colour-coded chart of goals and goals conceded last season:

Eliteserien Fantasy 2024

The left-hand column presents the team in order of goals conceded to highlight fixture difficulty for attackers, while the right-hand column orders teams by goals scored as a metric for defensive fixture difficulty.

It’s worth noting that Viking and Sarpsborg 08 look like quite appealing fixtures for your attackers but much less so for your defenders. At the opposite extreme, Haugesund and Strømsgodset appear to be pretty solid defences but struggle in attack.

WHERE TO FIND STATS

As for the players, I’m far from the level of familiarity required to write a comprehensive watchlist. However, the official Fantasy site does allow you to sort by goals, assists, clean sheets, bonus points etc, which can be supplemented by further data from sites like Transfermarkt and Whoscored.

I’ve also come across a massively helpful pre-season minutes tracker here (it also notes goals and assists).

COMMUNITY MINI-LEAGUES

That’s pretty much it from me.

I’ll just conclude with a couple of mini-leagues to join (thanks to Mullered in Maenam and Mince N Tatties for running these):

See you below the line!

Would you do Tripic and Salvesson to Stengel and Gulb for a hit this week ? The Viking boys are just not performing.

Main issue for me is whether Gulbrandsen will start or just get 30mins or so off the bench. Came on at 79' in their cup game last night and I suspect they will be pretty careful with him. On the other hand, Eriksen playing could point to a Gulbrandsen & Eikrem front 2, and I can see the temptation of a differential Molde (K) this week.

Myself, I think I'm going to give Tripic & Salvesen 2 more, mainly because I want to target that Tromsø (H) fixture, but might move on after that

Thanks helpful comments might just do Jorgensen to Stengel and forget the hit. Wildcard still to play so can probably wait on Gulbrandsen and give Viking boys one more week.

Today's piece on NRK feels a bit like a rehash of the earlier team news but he does explicitly say "ready to start":

Molde's star duo ready to play after injury

Both Fredrik Gulbrandsen and Magnus Wolf Eikrem are available to start when Molde host Haugesund in the Eliteserien on Sunday.

Coach Erling Moe confirms this to TV 2.

        - They are ready to start. They are included in the consideration, and then we will see which team we end up on in the end, says Moe.

The Molde coach also says that Markus Kaasa and Martin Linnes are not that far away from a return.

        - It is starting to look better, and that is of course good for us, he says.

Gulbrandsen had to leave with an injury in the series opener at home against Strømsgodset, but got his first start after the injury when the blue shirts beat Strindheim in the cup's second round on Wednesday.

So did Eikrem, who had to face the big showdown away to Bodø/Glimt last weekend. (NTB)

Odd coach Kenneth Dokken was very tight-lipped about the injury situation of goalkeeper André Hansen when TV 2 met him at the Skagerak arena on Friday. Hansen had to give up completely in the match against Brann last Sunday. Odd had to pull right-back Casper Glenna Andersen into goal in the final minutes. In the cup match against Pors on Wednesday, it was Peder Nygaard Klausen who guarded the cage. - The status of André Hansen is that we look at it from day to day. We have to use the time to see, says Dokken to TV 2. - How likely is it that he will finish on Sunday? - It is difficult to speculate about anything in particular. To be honest, I don't know, says Dokken. - Is it appropriate to bring in a backup solution? - No, we haven't discussed it before this match. There will be speculation against André, so I don't think it's right to go into that, says Dokken.

Rosenborg's centre-back Tomas Nemcik will not be seen against Bodø/Gilmt.

    - He is not with. He has some hamstring problems and we will not see him (in the team) for the next few weeks, says coach Alfred Johansson.

    - It's about three or four weeks, isn't it?

    - It is difficult to say how long, but it will be a few weeks.

    - What does it mean to lose such a defense chief?

    - It is primarily unfortunate for Tomas himself, but my focus is always on those who are fit for the fight. I mean we have a good squad to handle it. We field a very strong team tomorrow.

    Brann team news:

Soltvedt ready - From BT Ballspark.

Two days before Brann visits KFUM Oslo, Ulrik Mathisen stood up for parts of Friday's session. While the rest of the team played passes and finishes in the sunshine at Nymark, Mathisen ran lengths for himself.

Eirik Horneland thought it was only testing. Whether Mathisen will be ready to play on Sunday is still uncertain.

    - I haven't been able to talk to him, so I don't know, says Horneland.

There has also been tension linked to when Felix Horn Myhre is ready to play from the start.

The midfield jewel has made three appearances since returning from injury.

When asked if Myhre is relevant from the start, Horneland replies:

    - We will have to look after training tomorrow.

Otherwise, the Brann manager reports that the same players who were available against Askøy are ready for Sunday's game.

Plum fixture this week against struggling Sarpsborg & seems a quality player on paper from previous research, but I'm still quite skeptical about Tromsø this season, and even though they have that DGW10 Fredrikstad have looked really good so I'm more likely to sway FFK's way with doublers at the moment. Could work but personally I'll wait until Tromsø show some form before investing there

My Odd and HamKam players on the chopping block but rolled this week as only 0.4 to upgrade. Definitely would've been looking at Mai Traore if not for the injury and noticed Aga went off early in the last game too.

Whether Høgh can nail down the starting spot for Glimt will probably determine which chip I play in the DGW. Who would've thought JPH would play 5x90 minutes, including 4 wins and a draw and he'd get no attacking returns?

Were you playing that season before Hauge left for Milan? Looks like he was untouchable. That, plus the Molde preseason friendly which seemed to indicate he's on pens, persuaded me to start with him.

Think Høgh is / will be 1st choice CF but they are being extremely careful with his fitness

Yeah, I was sure Hauge would make it at Milan. Surprised it hasn't gone better for him since that move. The fact that so many other players have excelled in Glimt's attack shows what a strong system they have.

Looking at various forums, he seems to be the first choice replacement for Finne. His ownership on site is still only 9% so probably wouldn't hurt much if he hauls.

    Have ducked Gulbrandsen because
    1.he's old
    2.he's just been crocked
    3.Molde rotate
    4.midweek matches ahead

Still have Soltvedt of course 🙂

Prefer their mids and defence toying with doubling up at the back if Soltvedt doesn’t start to play more regularly.

Like that choice - I feel like this is the week I could get punished for having offloaded my Vikings, with Tromsø looking a shambles & having played 120mins in the cup midweek.

Haven't quite decided actually - it'll probably be Høgh / Grønbæk. Strømsgodset are a good side (better than Sandefjord) but I think I trust Glimt at home slightly more than Molde away at the moment and Eriksen will probably be back in midfield (not that it hindered him last week). Lehne Olsen still an option but a few recency-bias factors stacking up against him - blank last week & Sarpsborg CS, plus no involvement in LSK's 4 cup goals. Also the HamKam game looked a safer bet for 1/2-0 with TLO bonus, whereas this Sarpsborg game looks a bit more unpredictable to call where the bonus points will go (wouldn't be too surprised at a 2-2 or something like that).

      Looks like a good choice.

Have gone TLO. Was super busy so made my transfers in a hurry last week to ensure I caught prices and saw Vikings flunking again at the 90 minute mark and brought in TLO rather than reverting to Tripic 🙂

Guess I could have spared another 6 minutes.

Finne gtfo outta my team you Norwegian Darwin Nuñez.

    1) Lehne Olsen
    2) Heggebø
    3) Sæter
    4) Meister

Who comes in for the Norwegian Darlose?

29 shots & 1 goal... step aside Darwin!

Heggebø for the next 2, then Sæter, looks pretty neat if you can spare 2 FTs since Finne's suspension coincides with 2 tough fixtures for Rosenborg

Yes. Only issue is the high ownership of Lehne Olsen. Considering Heggebø this gw.

Good choice. Tough picking a replacement for me - has to be 5.5 under given future moves. Have a different Fredrikstad triple up plannned (already have Fischer & Sørløkk; want Bjartalid/Traoré for the DGW). Decided to stick with Brann defence & gone for Sery Larsen

    Sold Soldveldt for Bjorkan..

Think the best approach short term is to keep and have a good 1st sub though, if he starts he can haul big time

Issue for me is a lot of money tied up on player seating on the bench most weeks now.
So I’ve already got Bjorkan and Haugen so that’s why I’ve jumped ship.
Can see your point about he can haul if playing .
      Good luck

Cheers, fair point re money...need to free up budget by going lighter up top, maybe just two premiums and fodder/budget....might be scrambling to get him back before dgw10

I have a route back to him for the DGW if things change - don't mind losing Haugen v Brann (A).

3-0 Brann. Castro with the 3rd. They've been absolutely superb today

Yeah well worth keeping a route open

If its a case of playing him vs easier teams, and benching vs more attacking teams, could still return very well...wait and see atm

Yeah I did see that, he's just about 50% owned, I guess there are already a load of ghost teams, does seem strange though as he'll miss GW 7 as well, only 15K transferred him out, I thought a lot more would have used the money. Plenty of bench points coming.

A team in my auto league from Eliteserien managed to hit Blomberg Castro Heggebo yesterday for a running GR of 2!!!

Not a ghost team but was running at 44k of 50k.

Seen a few posts on another forum about an interview with Horneland (Brann manager), saying its 'due to injury and physical form that he has been out of the league lineup, and that they would find out when the timing was right for him to start matches in the Eliteserien again' (note this is as reported by the poster; not a direct quote from Horneland)

On a wildcard and original three strikers Salveson (who I’m keeping) Hogh and TLO.

Really not sure what to do, is Groenbak better than Hogh ?

Is TLO still worth it ?

      Any thoughts appreciated

Wouldn’t go TLO at the moment underperforming last few games I’m looking at shipping him out got s as couple of tough fixtures too.
Salveson should and will score goals as it looks like the team has started to play well.
Finne back after next week is a possibility currently I’m liking Heggobe good value
Saeter for RBK after this Gameweek as fixtures turn good for them.
Nunez very cheap and scoring well
Last one allows you to spread the money around your mids and defence
Presume you’re going 2 high value defenders too.
        Hope this helps .

          Thanks very helpful. Current draft

          Fisher / Oy - Huagen/Gund/Valsvik/S Larsen/Hoseth - Tripic/Zug/Eriksen/Bjorlo/Kurtovic - TLO/Hogh/Salv

TLO and Hogh will be going just need to think where to spread funds. Gulb, Hegg, Nunez and Saeter all possibilities.

Have you played the Attack! chip already? One big consideration, if you still have it, would he whether to set up for it in DGW10.

Having picked Høgh on WC I am sticking with him as I don't necessarily think he was rotated this week; think they're just taking it very carefully his mins as he was out since May 23. Perhaps it is still slightly early for him though...

I will almost certainly pick up a Fredrikstad forward by then - Maï Traoré should be back and Bjartalid (who I think will be on pens) has just returned from a shorter injury to get 5mins off the bench v Odd. I expect these 2 to be nailed ahead of Aga.

Currently I have Nunez occupying this potential FFK spot - pretty impressed with him so far & could keep him if I bail on the Attack! chip in 10 (where he play Glimt away).

I really like Sæter and am just waiting for the right time to sell TLO for him.

Heggebø is likely very short-term, and I have my doubts about Finne - his movement looks good but he's been snatching at his half-chances and not really looking too composed in front of goal.

Gulbrandsen I'm also unsure on; great when he starts but I expect he'll be subject to a fair bit of rotation especially with the (league) schedule now intensifying.

Thanks lots of food for thought. Like the Nunez idea with potential switch to Fred fwd.

Not convinced there is enough certainty around forwards to deploy Attack chip yet which I still have.

Take your point on Heggebo, do you rate Blomberg, could get him as a Brann pick rather than Bjorlo in midfield.

So many options, i'll be glad when this weeks over and i can stop thinking !

Update on Bjørkan injury from TV2:

Bodø/Glimt's Fredrik André Bjørkan is not available for the game against Kristiansund this weekend. Neither the club nor the protagonist himself wants to say anything about how long the injury break may be.

Bjørkan had to be replaced with an injury already five minutes into the match against Strømsgodset on Sunday.

      - It's going perfectly fine. Incredibly boring that I should get punched on the back of the thigh. The damage is better than feared, says the GLimt profile to TV 2.

      - When are you back?

      - Hard to say. Take it day by day and then we hope that we will see a development.

      - I will not put limitations on myself. The match for the weekend comes too early. It probably takes longer than that too. Do my best to come back.

      – May 16 against Tromsø?

      - It will probably come too soon, but we'll just have to see.

Bjørkan was present at Aspmyra on Tuesday and trained alternatively.

      - How is the body? You jog a little today. - The body looks perfectly fine. I don't get up that fast. The games will be close in the coming weeks. As early as May 16, there is a Northern Norway derby against Tromsø, before HamKam and KFUM are opponents on May 20 and 24, respectively. Bjørkan thus risks missing many matches. Coach Kjetil Knutsen is nonetheless a relieved man. - It is a hamstring injury, but not a serious hamstring injury, so we are incredibly happy about that. The damage itself does not occur when he is at maximum speed, which is a positive. - The stupidest thing to do is to time it, because then he won't be back before then, so we take it day by day. The pictures are positive, says Knutsen to TV 2.
