TopMarx Fan of Fantasy Football and Monty Python. "Archimedes out to Socrates, Socrates back to Archimedes, Archimedes out to Heraclitus, he beats Hegel. Heraclitus a little flick, here he comes on the far post, Socrates is there, Socrates heads it in! Socrates has scored! The Greeks are going mad, the Greeks are going mad! Socrates scores, got a beautiful cross from Archimedes. The Germans are disputing it. Hegel is arguing that the reality is merely an a priori adjunct of non-naturalistic ethics, Kant via the categorical imperative is holding that ontologically it exists only in the imagination, and Marx is claiming it was offside. Any of these three need knee-jerked out asap, and if so, to whom?

    Pickford
    Castagne - Barco

Castagne isn't expected to be a regular starter

Barco can be parked at 3rd sub for a bit

Pickford has many factors going against him, but they're mostly temporary

      Castagne for me

See how well Palace defend today. Andersen might be the answer

I'm not so confident in Man U yet, while it's hard to read Newcastle's defence based on a game where they had to sit back with 10 men

Your choice, tbh. Not a lot of data yet

Pickford was looking like a sound pick but after seeing Everton like that yesterday I would want to go to Pope or downgrade to 4.5.

Agree with Ze though, Castagne out first as he isn’t playing.

Livramento or Mazraoui based on games so far.

Thought he was nailed, but by all accounts, writing was on the wall pre-season, which I didn't follow...

Don't think I'd be buying Mazraoui with Brighton & Liverpool up next. Better attacks will punish United.

Livramento perhaps. Still tiny bit iffy with Trippier and the fixtures aren't amazing defensively.

I have him too. Davis and himself on the bench. Will keep another few GWs but Tete was good on Friday night, not expecting much gametime if any for Castagne. Wanna try keeping transfers down for a few weeks even if prices drop.

Barco - yes - heard they have a new signing plus Estupinan
back in trying possible price would drop from 4.0m as high ownership,
I had him until Thursday then decided to switch

Castagne - monitor possible better 4.5m option

How come a Dyche Everton got turned over so bad at home to BHA?

Was also a disallowed goal, can't just be Braithwaite?

    1. Ze_Austin
      • 7 Years

It can be Branthwaite + Coleman. They didn't look great without the trusted back 4 last season

They might currently be the most flagged defence, btw

True Ze, but this O'Brien fella is 5.0m, is he not any good....worried that Pickford is on for repeating last season start...

O'Brien didn't play. Dyche doesn't like tossing new players right in, I think

Everton's issues don't look related to last season, to me. I expect Dyche to sort it out. The FPL question is how long that'll take

My bad. Young was a regular full-back last season, not Coleman. So I guess the GW2 tweak will be O'Brien replacing Keane, and maybe Holgate at RB

Against an Ange team, that's scary

Quite happy with how things have gone so far. No Saka but Havertz was brilliant.

Thoughts on Zinchenko? Do you think he will stay first choice for now or he could be replaced at any moment?

Minteh looked quality, he will stay in my team for sure.

Do you like Garnacho and ESR for now?

    ——————————————————————————————————

    Henderson

56 points, nothing major compared to the big scores I have seen so far. Haaland captain and Henderson today with Porro tomorrow.

Too early to put any stock in OR figures. 3 more points would have you up at 883k with me. Remember there's quite a few one week wonder teams out there with 3x Man Utd, and plenty of BB1s this season

Not sure about the Garnacho situation tbh but looks a solid roll & see how ESR does v LEI ips. I'd expect Zinchenko will become a problem in a couple more weeks

      1. Count of Monte Hristo
        • 12 Years

Agreed about Garnacho, seems a waste because he is United’s most effective player in the final 3rd but Ten Hag insists on being difficult and prefers Rashford or even Amad over him.

I bought Zinchenko an hour before the deadline trying to lock in a clean sheet but I do know that will be a transfer waiting to happen. Maybe 2-4 weeks and I will have a better idea who to replace him with.

Yeah ESR in favourable fixtures will be the true test and I can assess. Cheers

I think he's just easing him in. He played a lot of football last year and he was with Argentina until the final.

He'll probably start the next game. He could have had a 12 point haul on Friday even playing for >30mins

            • 12 Years

That’s what I like about him, even with reduced minutes he is dangerous. Such a direct player and always goes for it. The miss at the end was painful but he looks a threat and I prefer him to MGW, Kudus, Bailey. We will see how Kulu/Nkunku get on.

The pick I am enjoying the most after yesterday. Never dropped him for Solanke at all last week and knew he could deliver.

Same (Kai). Also really happy with my Salah/Jota double up, but no City for today 😕

59pts 883k (actually +1 when Davis subs on for Barco) Muñoz, Son, Porro to play

              Nice call 😎

Thought you might have one City but not surprised you went no Haaland this time 😉

Son is a great pick, could go big against Leicester. Salah and Haaland means I miss out on Son/Saka/Palmer sadly.

It was a very late call after the Bobb injury. Gambling on a slow start for City with so many still to return. Wouldn't have had Salah if I'd stuck with Haaland so I'm happy so far...

Zinchenko was assured of starting the first match. The issue is from gameweek 2,Timber most probably starts because he offers more defensively remember it's Villa

Very good point, Villa away is a different proposition and we know how much Arteta changed personnel last season at LB. At least I have Mosquera to come in if he is dropped.

      Morning Count of Monte Hristo,

Congrats on good start - I would possible look
at alternative as J Timber fit again on plus
new signing Calafiori on bench will be a starter soon,
i feel time will be reduced

    I'm a little disappointed with my 45.

Lost 5 points on Quansah being hauled off

Captained Isak who was, I hope not copium, severely limited by the Schar sending off.

I have Porro, Haaland, and Solanke to come though.

Is it possible to have a team with Salah and Haaland and have scored well?

Nice, I'm on 62 with Haaland (c) to come and Nkunku to play. Don't have Isak or TAA though.

        If anyone cares:
        Raya 4.0
        Saliba | Hall | Quansah | Robinson | 4.0
        Salah | Garnacho | Nkunku | Rogers | Gordon
        Haaland (c) | Wood | Havertz

Yes without going far off template. I was close going with the on Friday which would be on 84 with Haaland, Munoz and Flekken to play.

      Flekken
      Gabreail, Hall, Munoz (Robinson, Barco)
Salah (c), Saka, ESR, Minteh (Sangare)
      Haaland, Isak, Wood

I have to risk and start one of Quansah/Barco in gw2, do you think they are both gonna be benched?

We need more info on Barco and why he didn't start.

Quansah is a difficult one as Slot was clear on why he was subbed off (tactical)

    2. Count of Monte Hristo
      • 12 Years

They could bo easily be benched tbh. Nice fixture for Quansah but with Slot referring to not winning enough physical duals I would bet on Konate starting v Toney.

Took the punt on Quansah and hate my life. Do I sell him for Robinson at home to Leicester or just roll the transfer with this defence?

    Trent vs Brentford (H)
    Gvardiol vs Ipswich (H)
    Hall vs Bournemouth (A)
    Quansah vs Brentford (H)
    Greaves vs City (A)

Not quite sure why so many people are convinced that Fulham's defence is the answer

If you're playing a back 3 here, this is an easy roll to get one more GW of data, imo

I don't disagree, I just don't wanna lose value on Quansah with lots of people probably selling. Saving the transfer may be more important though

He got one point and there hasn't been a screaming standout 4.5/4.0 bandwagon yet. Sales have been slow-ish so far on https://www.fplstatistics.com/

Could pick up the pace closer to the deadline or if a 4.5 scores today, of course

Was I the only one not overly impressed with Newcastle yesterday? Red card obviously not ideal but they were up against it a bit before then in fairness to Southampton. I'd expect Arsenal/City/Liverpool to have coped much better at home with 10 men against a promoted side. Early days obviously, Southampton could actually be quite decent for all we know.

Promotion adrenaline is a known occurrence

See Ipswich's first half vs Liverpool

Things usually die down a bit as they get tired, but the RC didn't allow that to play out

I know it obviously early days for fitness etc. but I do think the ex-Arsenal connection is blinding a few punters...he hardly got a look in last two seasons.

Premium defence not worth it with BPS changes and clean sheets now a thing of the past, and all that...

Not sure how much more Isak has to do after his last two seasons and rescuing an assist out of a ten-man game, but okay

This team probably scores 80+ points in GW2, so I wouldn't tweak it just yet

I had Quansah, Barco and Sean Longstaff/Rogers rotating. I also had a bloody good team.

But as usual, I kneejerked for Salah over Jota, welcome, my shiny new team:

Henderson. (Slicker. Hell yeah, he HAD to say with a name like that)
    Trent. Mazz. HB. (Fae. Greaves.)
    Salah. Saka. Amad. Souchek.(Irogctcdsfycfwhgv)

You're starting a promoted 4.0 defender every GW

Then a DM and Garnacho's backup in midfield every GW

Mazraoui vs Brighton and Liverpool before we find out if he's nailed over Shaw/Dalot

Thanks, a couple of things disappointed me but they were off set by others.

Wanted Havertz and had him in drafts but went for Wood and Trent (who both returned) had Quansah nailed in to many drafts & swerved him right at the last day.

Barco is annoying but I never planned to use him, think this is the most satisfying GW1 re selection for a long time.

Remember Liverpool's first half vs Ipswich?

I wasn't so surprised by Soton's energy levels. Expected them to burn out in the second half

But the red card threw that away

Let's see Newcastle's attack of the last two seasons play with 11 men vs Bournemouth, Spurs, Wolves and Fulham defences

I have Nkunku instead of ESR in an otherwise identical front seven which I plan not to change before the IB. Couple of my cheap defenders who failed to get 60 minutes aren't worth the transfers so can sit on the end of my bench until then.

I’m anticipating Zirkzee starts, so would mean Bruno back to 10, but we actually saw him swap roles a lot with Zirkzee coming deep. The goal in fact was Zirkzee in a 10, passing it and running into box from deep.

Roundabout way of saying I think Bruno will be involved and a good pick but probably won’t have quite as many chances as vs Fulham.

    Raya
    Trent Porro Gabriel
    Jota Diaz Gordon Son (c)
    Havertz Solanke Isak

    Onana De Ligt Hall Amad

leave it for next week? I have the irrational idea that Man Utd will low block counter Brighton in the early kick off next week and subsequently have a better chance of clean sheet than Arsenal away at Villa Park.

    So it's:

    1) Raya and Gabriel
    2) Onana and De Ligt.

    1. Bushwhacker
      • 6 Years

United low block everyone. Think Brighton far more likely to break it. Team is fine though.

After watching Villa be quite impressive yesterday I can see them scoring vs Arsenal, therefore I'd rather take a punt on Man Utd (as a supporter.) I guess I was just looking for overwhelming 'No's' to that decision ha.

Arteta going to roll out the human wall, Zinchenko benched, Timber to join Gabriel, Saliba & White.

Also if Merino gets done with enough time for him to train, don’t be surprised to see Merino, Rice & Odegaard in MF, this set up will hard to break down.

Merino is quality, I just hope Arsenal sign Toney on deadline day so they win the league outright no asterisk.

Toney doesn’t get into this team ahead of Havertz so I doubt that happens unless Arteta looks to move Havertz to the left (which is where the upgrade could be seen to be needed)

Hilarious all the talk of ripping apart team chasing this weeks scorers.

NewC down to 10 ruined it for Gordon & Isak C, Hall looked excellent.

Ars got two if anything will probably get a defender or Havertz

Jota was gold & glad i didn’t listen to the not regular starter, Quanash is probably a wait & see.

Robinson has some engine & looks to cross, holding verdict on ESR but looks good.

Rogers again looked good & Watkins was as rusty af.

Still got Hendo, Porro, Solanke & Haaland to go so weeks not done, if Robot gets a couple the chatter might change again

We all chose a path & there were 3 that most followed,

    Salah/Haaland,

    No Haaland

    No Salah, me

Now is not the time to rip up your team 🙂

Not really because you still have a captain in play, the point was always Salah v a 10m & change to upgrade elsewhere, that was proved right.

Just a few observations on Salah's performance yesterday. I know he got his point's but I'm not that confident of another 20+ goal season.

In the last third of last season it was apparant to me that he appeared to have lost his pace and the ability to take players on and get past them and his finishing wasn't clinical like it once was.

I wanted to put that down to his fasting/ramadan together with it being the end of a long season however I felt the same things were again apparent yesterday.

He should have scored again when he was put through centrally but produced another tame, weak shot hit straight at the keeper very reminiscent of the finishing he was producing at the end of last season.

It was the poor finishing of him and the other Liverpool forwards that lost Liverpool the league and the FA Cup last season and there was some poor finishing on display again from Diaz yesterday. Liverpool really need to find a world class clinical forward as Jota doesn't stay fit.

    1. Cok3y5murf
      • 9 Years

That tame, weak shot has happened multiple times even when he was in his prime. He has never been the most effective finisher, just someone who takes a large number of shots that they eventually go in, and we benefit.

Nothing to see here. Liverpool ran out of gas last year ; they didn’t have a squad able to compete on four fronts. Same this year tbh ; but it Jota stays fit at least they have options to rotate.
