Mbeumo & Sepp van den Blatter (4.0m)

    Next question?

VdB unlikely to start over Collins/Pinnock against easier opposition in 4ATB setup

Sitting 3rd on bench, that'll do...also reckon he'll get more games than just 3ATB, based on zero knowledge and 95% guess work 😉

Intrigued where the other 5% went?! Personally, I’d have a Faes / Greaves as 3rd bench over a player that may not play as might (unlikely but might) block out a desired triple up

    Who’s the injured Arsenal player?

Odegaard? Or is there someone else?

Maybe Saka, the subbing on Sunday was actually to do with an injury as much as the RC?

      Take your pick...

David Raya, Riccardo Calafiori, Jurrien Timber and Gabriel Martinelli all received treatment on the pitch at the Etihad Stadium.

Bukayo Saka was replaced at half-time, although the substitution was likely tactical with Arsenal down to 10-men.

The Saka subbing was strange as there were others that would normally go before him? Maybe they used the RC as an opportunity to get him off the pitch?

Maybe Arteta preferred Martinelli over Saka under 10-men for ball progression and pace for long balls

    Current WC defence options

    A:
    Flekken 4.0m
    TAA Gabriel Saliba Lewis Greaves

    B:
    Raya 4.0m
    TAA Gabriel Lewis Dunk Greaves/4.5m

    Flekken + Saliba + Greaves (14.5m) vs Raya + Dunk + 4.5m (14.5m)

Davis probably depends on if I go with Greaves. Dunk is in as a set and forget long term pick and start when Brighton's fixtures turn in 12. Ideally don't want to be using transfers in defence

John Stones will be 70% ownership by Xmas - playing OOP in the Rodri role with goals in his locker and def points (when that happens, which it will occasionally) - 5.4m is a bargin

Staying fit is an issue for Stones - started only 13 games in all competitions for Man City in 2024

Goals in his locker is a bit of a stretch isn't it? According to transfrmarket he's managed 1 goal from that role in 26 games, not sure how accurate transfrmarket are on positions. Regardless his entire FPL history shows 8 goals. He's injury prone, not very attacking and City concede silly goals.

Here's something different. Thoughts on this as WC6/7?

    Raya 4.0
    TAA Gabriel Porro Greaves VdB
    Maddison Mbeumo Savinho Semenyo Rogers
    Haaland Watkins Havertz

I'm thinking I might invest in Watkins since I think he's underrated. Spurs' fixtures are decent and I also like Maddison as a differential and Porro as well continues to look good attacking.

Triple Arsenal but no Saka. All it will take is one benching and people might go off 70 min Diaz. It has a strong front 8 as well with Rogers in case of Savinho missing out and the three best fwds in the game imo.

Maddison + Savinho are definitely left field but I don't see why they're clearly worse than Diaz + ESR who are more popular because of their stronger starts. I think both of them could become outstanding options in a few weeks time.

I stand by what I said... it's a weak midfield.
39.2m spent on a midfield of Salah, Saka, Eze, Adama, Franca isn't good. And is what I'd prioritize fixing.

This team has less money spent which enables the premium fwd line while retaining solid assets that should all start and it has Rogers who would be the 8th attacker to step in if Savinho doesn't play.

Just seems like a completely unnecessary attempt to discredit me by providing out of context snipes. Why can't you just comment on the draft and what you do and don't like...

Think you have read some animosity into my posts that was certainly not intended.

I always look for your posts and think you are a value add to the forum.

Was just trying to engage in some friendly discussion, which is something I find you are usually quite open to, even when in vehement disagreement with the other party.

I disagree that I took anything “out of context,” and I think it’s easier for that other bloke to upgrade his one weak mid that won’t be permanently nailed to his bench than to address issues that could arise in your draft midfield. I will be surprised if you actually go forward with that team but wish you the best either way.

Fair enough. I'm just providing something different to the usual.

There is a way to improve the midfield in that draft if you take some money out of defense and in the 8th attacker slot.

Porro, Semenyo, Savio > Diaz, Lewis/4.5 mid, Carvalho

Would leave a midfield of Maddison, Diaz, Mbeumo, Rogers, Carvalho which I think is pretty good to support the premium attack.

It's the downgrade of Saka > Havertz that allows Watkins to find his way into the draft. Watkins might have high EO overall but among engaged managers on WC, I'm willing to bet his EO is way lower.

The front line and defense are obviously quality. I'd like to find a way to get Watkins into my own team at some point sooner than later.

Midfield is definitely different, and you support the picks with sound reasoning, as is your practice. It could even work, at least for a time, and regardless could be good enough, given the team's other strengths. I would not have the courage to bet on that many enablers and would probably be tempted by something like the move for another 7.5 mid you suggest above. But who's to say?

My WC team is reasonably similar. Same Arsenal, same front 3, TAA, Greaves, Mbeumo, Semenyo and Rogers. I'm going with Diaz and unsure at the minute on my other 7ish mid.

How do you go differential while staying reasonable?

Do you have to go DCL (4.6%) over Wood (8.4%)? Tho both much are less owned than likes of Watkins, Pedro, Isak or Havertz. Or someone here said Semenyo is temple attacker (7.3%) but still with lower ownership than Eze (22.9%) or ESR (29.6%), like do you have to go all the way down to Maddison (4.5%) or Savio (1.6%)?

Look at the team I just built above. I think that's highly differential while maintaining core selections.

I think the only non-negotiables for me on WC are triple Arsenal, Haaland, Mbeumo, Rogers and TAA. And honestly maybe Greaves haha. It's possible. You just have to think about who you want/value.

Spurs had that great start last year with CS, from then on the amount of 2’s Porro got, just not worth it.

Manager plays all out attack when down to nine men so CS are not his baseline.

I can agree with your core, maybe with some caveat for Rogers. Referring to your team above, Watkins and Havertz appear to be much more template options (in terms of simple ownership) than even Jackson, tho you go heavy differential in mid with Maddison and Savio - finally it looks like it's a matter of where you want to spread or take that risk.

*not totally in agreement with your line of thinking though. like take Haaland, who was on fire most of his first season and got 271 points in 35 starts. So from now to the end of the season expect his points per start to be (271-63/30) = 6.9. If you think past seasons are a fair reflection and freak seasons above the norm very rarely happen, you should be selling Haaland right now because 6.9 points per start is not value at all for 15.1 mil. Not trying to be harsh, just how I see it

Incredible start. If you keep nailing the captaincy selections, it’ll make for a great season.

A Salah haul this GW and the team looks great, a Salah blank and a brace from Haaland, well…

I’d like to see the other premiums at least within touching distance of Haaland, we won’t know until it’s a bit too late

Thx for the nice reply. I was on 150k after 3 GWs. The last 2 GWs when Salah(C) had only 1 assist and Haaland scored 3 goals i dropped only 110k places.

Thats what makes it hard for me to torn up a great team just for the sake of Haaland. I still dont think he is worth 15.3 mil, but I understand why people are chosing him. However with the upcoming good games for City he will be a perma captain each GW.

Maybe wrong but currently not overly convinced with Watkins.

Feels like game state will dictate whether he plays 90 mins or subbed early for in-form Duran.

Yeah even Wood has a higher points per match than Watkins

Cheaper forwards with pens and no midweek UCL could be more appealing

Check out his goal contributions for Villa in the league since Emery took over.

Sure but concern for me he currently unlikely to be nailed 90 mins so less mins for attacking returns

slight hope is the more they are on the pitch together, the better they can play as a pair. thats if emery does truly want to have the 2 up top as an option

We will see but seems like when chasing the game Emery will have both on. Subbed early when Emery thinks the games over and can rest Watkins. Not sure he will regularly start both in the future though

yeah i agree its a concern. would ignore the first matches of the season because of lack of preseason but the Young boys subbing could be a sign of things to come.

i guess as a Watkins owner could argue as well Duran was fit for most last season Watkins rarely saw limited minutes. obviously easy to counter that by saying duran has gone up a level and 5mins here or there won't cut it anymore

Currently on WC, as many others. Any input on which option is better?

    A: Konate, McNeil, Vardy
    B: Gvardiol, McNeil, 4,5 forward
    C: Gvardiol, Winks, Vardy

The selected defender will be a starter, the others are mainly for the bench. McNeil and Vardy would be in a rotation.

Already got TAA if that should impact.

Currently on A, but with Walker back we could see more of the Gvardiol from last season.

    Any input appreciated!

None. Find 0.2 for Vardy, who are the cheapest option worth having IMO, or go 4.5 and spend funds elsewhere.

Jota to Mbeumo already done. 2 FT’s left. Best option?:

    A) Salah + Wissa to Saka and Havertz
    B) Pedro + Wissa to Wood and DCL.

B would mean keeping Salah but only 1 Arsenal (Gabriel).

Rogers actually is tricky. Having him as your only AV pick, would you actually play him over e.g., Wood or Semenyo? Should he be just a luxury bench cover?

    1. F4L
      • 11 Years
      1 year, 3 months ago

tough because right now its basing his potential on 6 matches, where he has played CAM/SS, and on the fact Emery so far has looked reluctant to limit his minutes at all (so glass half full he's safe from any rotation CL might cause) but if you are happy to, there's not a world where he won't be in around 4.2-4.5 ppg at the very least from here on out. so he should be a starter every week imo. cant ignore as well how much better Villa are as a team over all the other cheapie options so fixtures always look/are easier
