Back for a new season, with “sailing fan” Granville now woken from his Olympic dream, we return for another podcast after a three-month hiatus.

While some of the regulars are shelved this week, we talk over the Sky Sports Game, welcome new Fantasy Football double act “Fenners & Merse” and start the clear up after Robin Van Persie kicked over the applecart.

The episode is underpinned by a new concept – the idea that Granville and I can join forces and actually be effective. The premise is we pick a ScoutCast XI and cross our beams to co-manage it over the season, arguing the toss in every ScoutCast episode on transfers and substitutions. The aim is harmony and a united success. It seems unlikely to end that way.

Oh, and there are actually two of my “jokes” that Granville misses in this episode – see if you can make out the second. I swear he was dreaming of gold medals in the sailing.

    GAH was about to go to sleep settled on the team but one last thing to sort out. Garrido arrives at Norwich so I think it's fair to assume Tierney is no longer nailed on. Who of Bennett, Barnett, and Ward is nailed on?

      If Garrido is 4.5m, and I think he will be, then the only 4.0m Norwich defender who will start is Ryan Bennet- but only until Whittaker returns from injury.

          Thanks. Feck, Whittaker could be back reasonably soon couldn't he? Certainly not long enough to make it worth me spending a transfer to get rid of Bennett.

          Might maybe have to get Ruddy in for Jaaskelainen and put Demel in for Tierney.

      Hi, I think it's too strong in defence. Kagawa is a bit of a risk with the uncertainty caused by RVP at Man Utd. You can get more bang for your buck by downgrading an expensive defender and adding Bale, VDV or even Michu to midfield. I'd go for Mata for the DGW.

        I mean I really don't wanna spend much on the defence as I think the points are gonna be scored up top again this year plus there are loads of midprice (7-10mil) mid options to try out this year. So I just want to pick a back seven and leave it untouched for as long as possible with decent returns.

      All looking very solid except for Taarabt who I'm not sure is nailed on with Cisse and Zamora there. Not sure how far 1m will go to making a big upgrade (it won't get Aguero or Rooney for starters), maybe you're best blowng it now

        I could easily do ACole/Torres -> 4.5/RVP or something like that, so I would prefer having it there just incase there is a player that I really want, because I like that team.

    does anyone think there's a possibility of rooney being pushed deeper into midfield whenever RVP and kagawa are both on the pitch? let's not forget he played that role for a few games last season to great effect after the man city drubbing, and fergie has seemed very open to the option as has rooney himself.

      As a non-fan I'm definitely getting the impression Kagawa was signed so Rooney didn't have to drop back. So that he could focus on being a goalscorer without all the discipline. Kagawa certainly has dropped very deep and motored very far forward in recent matches. His vertical movement is astounding, he looks like the link between midfield and attack that United desperately were looking for last season (I seem to recall this didn't just involve Rooney dropping deep, they also tried using Phil Jones...)

      Back line average as Jones not 100% to start, Pool have average fixtures to start.

      Hey Duffman, thinking I the wait and see approach is best. If Rooney keeps penalties and most direct free kicks I think he will still have a strong year. A few 'ifs' to be answered first.

        I'm tempted to just spend my 2 million I have in the bank on my midfield and wait a few weeks to get RVP/Rooney. However missing out on a big halul from one of them could leave you left behind early on and they're values would soar... alot of thinking stil to be done.
