Back for a new season, with “sailing fan” Granville now woken from his Olympic dream, we return for another podcast after a three-month hiatus.

While some of the regulars are shelved this week, we talk over the Sky Sports Game, welcome new Fantasy Football double act “Fenners & Merse” and start the clear up after Robin Van Persie kicked over the applecart.

The episode is underpinned by a new concept – the idea that Granville and I can join forces and actually be effective. The premise is we pick a ScoutCast XI and cross our beams to co-manage it over the season, arguing the toss in every ScoutCast episode on transfers and substitutions. The aim is harmony and a united success. It seems unlikely to end that way.

Oh, and there are actually two of my “jokes” that Granville misses in this episode – see if you can make out the second. I swear he was dreaming of gold medals in the sailing.

Listen in on the squad selection via this link.

Alternatively, stream it down your pipe using the player below…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

and on your team try hangeland and clyne >> hughes and cuellar. with 2 4.5 keepers i think its better not to have a soton defender. talk of valencia playing right back, dont know how much truth in that but i'd keep an eye on that. other than that looks good.

I thought of Mignolet and he is also a good option, but Tottenham have great fixtures to start the season, and Friedel is the cheapest way into their defensive players. As long as Tottenham don't bring in a new goalkeeper, there isn't any doubt over his position right?

Have stuck with the spare 2.0 structure/strategy. Wondering whether or not its better to splash the cash for the opening round - which, in turn, would mean a point hit to complete the Torres > Rooney transfer?

    Schwarzer Begovic
    ACole Zabaleta Santon Fabio Clyne
Carzola Bale Yaya N'Zogbia [Guthrie or Marveaux]
    Graham Torres Tevez

    2.0m spare

Splashing the cash means the difference between selecting Yaya over Nasri or Valencia, as well as strengthening on Clyne (4.0 DEF)

@China Mag - for the record, I agree with your thoughts regarding selecting 4.0 defenders from the off. Not in consideration till we see their potential/output

Glad to see someone agrees!! In my opinion, if you are set on getting rooney for GW2, keep the cash. If its a wait and see, then you might as well spend it. Maximum it will cost you will be a 4pt hit, and hopefully that 2m will have made you more than 4pts by then!

Yeah, likely to throw caution to the wind and risk the need the early point hit. Wait and see approach with ManU MF/FWD. Will spend the extra 2.0 and have the side going:

With 0.5 remaining. Will likely come in handy to complete Nasri > Siggy/VDV/Valencia

        Schwarzer | Begovic
        ACole | Zabaleta | Santon | Fabio | Cuellar
        Carzola | Bale | Nasri | Ramires | Marveaux
        Graham | Torres (C) | Tevez (VC)

Yeah, N'Zogbia is giving me Insomnia. Final day and thinking about it way too much because I've blown a bloody month of my free time getting ready for this 😀

I'm actually watching the Cologne v Arsenal friendly right now on the Arsenal player. Have to say Cazorla looks even better than I heard. Genuinely playing in the hole and was the furthest player forward a fair number of times. Basically, our David Silva, but far fonder of hitting long balls - assist potential - and shooting.

I think kagawa will be sitting too deep too often or rotated or subbed way too much. They have an over abundance of mids. YaYa dominates the midfield pretty much no matter who they play and is far more influential in far more games. Tevez is a personal choice. I picked him for a couple reasons, the first being he pretty much won the title for City at the end. We know how strongly he can affect the team. Secondly his form compared to Aguero right now is much higher. I've always admired Tevez's work ethic on the pitch as well, he is a work horse. (whenever he's not on vacation in argentina haha) We still don't know how the partnership with RVP and Rooney will go, it could be a complete disaster. However goals are still going to be scored. If you want United cover I would suggest Rooney or Valencia (or nani if you want, I don't like him). I think Valencia will continue to raid the sideline on his runs and get plenty of asists and goals. I think majority of these are going to go to rooney for one reason. RVP plays high and even though rooney occasionally plays high he tends to be just a tad lower, which means in my mind more crosses will go to him. This is my Analysis of those choices and is only MY expressed opinion, but I hope it helps!

china pardew, if you are still about.....

    DDG, Federici

    Lescott, Cole, Hangeland, Demel, Clyne

    Bale, Cazorla, Lamps, N'zogbia, Guthrie

    Torres, Tevez, Graham

anyone else, tell me again why i should get zabaleta over lescott. what are you picturing in the back if lescott isnt starting? i read an article about being called up for English squad but when i looked at the box score, it appeared he didnt feature. I also remember reading that Lescott was "rested" for the CS, implying he could have potentially featured there. Surely then he will be rested and fit for GW1 no? Even if he were out week 1, if wanting city coverage long term, surely i have to go lescott right?

I don't know where the doubt about Lescott starting is coming from, but I am going with Zabaleta strictly because he is cheaper, and I can always upgrade him when Richards is back. If you want someone who will play all season though, I would go with Lescott.

      I'm still here.

I see you've given in and gone for torres. Damn you!! I was hoping my Torres v your lampard would tip the balance!

Your team probably looks a bit better for GW1, but I have to think long term!

I think that most people are assuming that city will buy a centre back, so then lescott will become at least as much of a risk, if not more than zabeleta. And zabeleta is nailed on for the first month,

aye, they did make a pitch for agger didnt they? hmmm, i think id rather gamble on what they have to work with now, and i dont know why mancini wouldnt have confidence in him. Nice showing at the Euros even!

yaya for sure. He is dominant in the midfield and for more influential in far more games.

if you dont mind a short commitment then nasri. ive decided neither is essential and a city defender and forward is enough. if anything, maybe defender/aguero/tevez if you want 3.

So, DeadZoners, I already have Michu. I"m trying to decide between:

    A) Petric + Dyer
    B) Graham + Allen (or other 5.5)

My worry on Petric is gw2 is not at all good. Thoughts? Other possibilities?

i am backing him. he is a talent who just didnt buy into things last year, and i think given the fixtures, will have a good chance to show his class again. i think he assisted both of bents goals in their last friendly, i expect that to be the typical linkup when they score, and they WILL score against WHM

Michu? Good fixtures, and you can trade for Nzog if he does well....

I am beginning to feel like N'Zogbia is a better option than even Yaya at 8 mil
