Back for a new season, with “sailing fan” Granville now woken from his Olympic dream, we return for another podcast after a three-month hiatus.

While some of the regulars are shelved this week, we talk over the Sky Sports Game, welcome new Fantasy Football double act “Fenners & Merse” and start the clear up after Robin Van Persie kicked over the applecart.

The episode is underpinned by a new concept – the idea that Granville and I can join forces and actually be effective. The premise is we pick a ScoutCast XI and cross our beams to co-manage it over the season, arguing the toss in every ScoutCast episode on transfers and substitutions. The aim is harmony and a united success. It seems unlikely to end that way.

Oh, and there are actually two of my “jokes” that Granville misses in this episode – see if you can make out the second. I swear he was dreaming of gold medals in the sailing.

Listen in on the squad selection via this link.

Alternatively, stream it down your pipe using the player below…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    A) DDG – Federici
    Lescott – Hangeland – Saylor – Demel – Barnett
    Nasri – Hazard – Michu – Maloney – Guthrie
    Aguero – Torres – Graham

3.5m spare for Nasri -> Silva and Torres -> Rooney

    B) DDG – Cerny
    Zabaleta – Hangeland – Saylor – Demel – Barnett
    Nasri – Hazard – Michu – Maloney – Guthrie
    Aguero – Torres Graham

4.5m spare for Torres -> RVP and Nasri -> Silva

I know I’ve weakened my defence to fund torres -> rvp in team 2 but I’m hesitant to stick with torres -> rooney out of fear that rooney will be playing in a cam role and rvp will play up top getting the majority of the points.

the only significant upgrade i see is zabaleta. i know mcclean is highly touted here but sunderland have no attack right now, and only 2 fixtures that i actually like over the beginning. id much rather have DDG and you get aguero whos a better armband option.

Imo it is about player value regardless of position. If you have a couple of cheap mids that defence is fine if you're happy to play 4 at the back sometimes. Otherwise you will end up benching expensive players.

Anyone else looking at Nasri as a short term punt?

Been toying with the idea for a couple of days and a couple of guys mentioned it a couple of pages ago in response to a question I posed (cheers MCTOWN and MR BLUE).

He fares pretty well in comparison with Silva (based on last 6 gameweeks of last season), who is a doubt to start the season, and looks a better pick than Toure and should start the first couple of gameweeks at least.

Am I crazy? I've already decided on starting with Tevez and Torres so it would mean doubling up on one of Chelsea and City. I don't mind doubling up on City but is it just a punt too far?

Does that even mean anything though?

What I mean is, are you seriously considering starting with him or do you think Lampard might be a better pick? (or if you have the luxury of the extra 0.5m, Mata?)

Valencia for 9 if you could be sure he'll play on the wing and not right-full.

Yeah, big 'if' there pal 😉

Also planning to wait til GW2/3 to make a decision on United attackers and whether I will do Nasri/Lamps/whoever else > Valencia or Torres > Rooney

The problem is that if City start with the 3-5-2 than Nasri comes out for silva at some point.

Yeah, could happen, although I still see him getting game-time alongside Silva in a more conventional formation.

Mata, proven PL pedigree, Hazard unproven. Lampard isn't nailed on and if he plays will prob play deep.
