Completely forgetting about FPL, probably getting overly optimistic about Man United's chances next season and then pulling a team together 3 hours before the GW1 deadline

It's what I always try and do over the summer. I get a bit obsessive about it during the season at times so 2 months off is good

Ended up at 350k. My second worst OR (after 550k a few moons ago), but given I was 6.7m till GW19, I'll take it. Glad this god forsaken season is over. Enjoy the break, gents. Cheers.

Every 50/50 going against me, injuries...you name it. Everything that can go wrong went wrong for me till 19. Probably the craziest season of FPL I've ever played.

Until week 30, yeah. Rewarded me with a decent triple captain haul today too. Stuck with my system of only making transfers in blocks of 4-5 gameweeks, bar one slip up towards the end. Pretty liberating to not stress about transfers week to week tbh.

Saka the villain of the season. Had to hold him for 5 weeks through his injury. Then captain in the big DGW for 2 1-point cameos. Capped it all off today transfering him in for yet another 1-pointer.

One thing I will take away from this season is that hits are not bad. I took loads of hits this season and the majority paid off, some handsomely.

-8 is the cut of though, anything more than that seems doomed to failure, you'd basically need to get 3, or essentially 6 calls right if you took a -12 (choosing 3 new players and correctly predicting that all 3 beat the 3 you are taking out).

It depends on the fixture a lot, but if you took Cucu as an example, I used a hit to get him in for 27 and 28 and he got back to back 15 pointers. I know that's just one example where I probably got lucky, but I had several high paying hits like that, Barnes was another.

I'm presuming you were taking hits for players with a good run of fixtures coming up rather than just one gw?

        6 months, 13 days ago

I only mention it because the FPL community for a long time has always said hits a bad. But I think the game changed and its an outdated view. There's so many players now, and active ones are making pro-active moves. Patience in this game still pays, don't get me wrong, but sometimes its just obvious that you should take a hit.

        1. Sun God Nika
          • 5 Years
          6 months, 13 days ago

          Definitely
          I stopped last couple seasons
          Only did 1 or 2

But this season i took more risks

Had its pros and cons like getting in Bowen
But also took out Gibbs-White before his back to back double hauls

I also believe in more of captaining your own punts and don’t fall into the FOMO al the time because of scout picks or content creators

I just hope it isn’t going to be too easy next season to draft a solid team, can’t see there being too many sacrifices with inevitable price drops for Haaland, Palmer, Foden, (Bruno if he stays), no KDB , no Trent etc.

None of that rubbish next season for sure, still buzzing for the new one!

In a good place in terms of attachment to the game right now, vested but too vested.
Important for anyone reading this who feels it affects them too much mentally, stay strong and try to play casually, we all get a bit too gripped sometimes which is why we always come back for more!

Take care and see you soon hopefully for some drafting!

I’ve made too many wrong 50:50 calls based on stats/opinions/content creators/forums etc so backing my gut next season.

Smooth: saved my best GW of the season for the last week to halve my rank to 47K. The feature of the week was my smoothest move of the season (if you'll pardon the expression) following my gut and bringing in and captaining Semenyo.

Rough: unpleasant start to the season left me at 3mil after 8 weeks. Also, the AM chip blows (even though it got me 38 points)

Gameweek went ok, but nothing special. I played BB and got 77 (-4). I had Rogers cap, so that was a bit disappointing.

I had fun this season. But I didn't finish where I wanted, which would have been top 10k ideally. I ended on 164k.

Although I say I had fun, its been a bit of a boring season week-by-week. Since about gameweek 5, I have just floated between 26k and 500k, normally hovering around 100-150k. My consistency this season has been somewhat scary, but ultimately boring.

I was doing well about 5 weeks ago, and it looked like I was on track for a strong finish, but recent weeks have not been kind to me. Haaland in for example did not pay off.

I played different this season, so I think that's why I had fun. I have also learn a lot this season, possibly more than I have in all seasons combined previously. I actually have a list with about 30 bullet pointers of things I learned xD

It will be weird not to think about FPL for a while. But a break is nice. I'm looking forward to next season, and hopefully I will be able to put some things I learnt into practice.

Hope everyone else had a good season, or at least found it fun at times.

      Very much just smooth things

      - first time top 10k overall (6k)
      - chips turned out unbelievably well (Salah TC24 87pts, AM Glasner 26&27, 2x 20pts, FH34 103pts)
      - some big captaincy decisions turned my way (Bruno's 17pointer in BGW29 instead of Wood blank)

Overall very happy, any complaints would really be just nitpicking

Finished at 85k which is the highest I've been this season. Took far too long getting Salah in early on and had to drag my OR back from that and pretty happy to get into the top 100k.

Took too long & stubborn to get Haaland in, and bought him when the smart were selling. Managed around 500k after hitting a low of around 4.5m after gw5. TC, FH & 2nd WC went well, need to manage AM better next season

Smooth: Finished on a green arrow, and in the end that's all that really matters going into off-season.

Rough: Dislike AM chip - way too powerful. Not telling us what all the rules are before the start of the season.

Took too long to get haaland in early when he was firing so missed out on all his hauls. Then once I switched to him from salah I was too stubborn to switch back to salah and kept waiting for haaland to hit form again. Lost a ridiculous amount of points from this and never really recovered!

Finished strongly in the last three months though and ended up around 300k overall having been around 1m for a while.

Terrible season. My previous worst finish was 409k last year, but this time I finished 1.6m.
Started without Haaland, and even left him out in my first Wildcard, which I played too early.
Brought him in for Salah in GW6 just as their fortunes were about to go in opposite directions and dropped to over 6 million.
Reversed this move in GW10 and my fortunes started to improve, but still had to take a number of hits and play an early Second Wildcard in GW20 in order to get the squad back into shape.
Climbed back to 1.47m by GW27, but the lack of another Wildcard or enough saved transfers made it difficult to make further progress.

But at least I had a couple of better Gameweeks to end the season with.
Captained Bowen and scored 66 points in GW38 (but left Pickford and Mykolenko on the bench).

          Thanks, AC/DC.
Despite everything, I still enjoy playing the game and trying to make the best decisions for the next few GWs.
I used to dream of finishing in the top thousand, but now I'm having to settle for easier targets such as trying to win the family mini-league, getting back in the top 100k, or just going back to basic principles and avoiding silly mistakes.

Smooth: Gvardiol, Bowen, Mbeumo and Sarr helped me to a green arrow, with the latter coming off the bench for Welbeck. Ended up at 685k, my best rank all season.

Rough: Isak (C) over Salah continued an unfortunate trend. Since GW16 I've gone against Salah (C) 10 times: Salah only got four returns in those games, but my alternatives did even worse with just one return. Ended the season with four consecutive captain blanks. Overall it was my worst finish since 2018-19.

Decided on a no Haaland policy at the start - 14m too much for a striker, plenty of other options, hadn’t done amazing previous seasons.
First few weeks I got laughed at then i screamed past most, nailed my gw12 wc, hovered around 30-50k for most of the season, then fell quicker then i thought possible to about 250k and rose a bit at the end.
Had a gw38 bb just because that last double never happened and it kinda got away from me.
I think it’s worse - doing well and being top of mini leagues then falling to 181k , over clawing up to 181k at the end. Maybe.

Funnily enough I had a no Salah policy at the start - he was the only outfield player I couldn't get with one transfer. My reasoning was I just couldn't see Salah having a career best year at 32 under a new manager and I didn't think Håland would regress much. Felt vindicated for the first 5-10 weeks until it became clear City were much worse without Rodri and Liverpool were serious.

My other main tactic was to try a set and forget goalkeeper. Meant to do it with Pickford but abandoned it after the first wildcard due to Everton's awful start. In the end I got 131pts from goalkeepers this season, so any of Pickford, Flekken, Henderson would've been better.

      Smooth:
      - KDB to Bowen at literally 14:29.
      - Salah (C) 85th minute goal.
      - Rival's Evanilson (C) blanked!
      - Above won me my mini-league.
      - Secured the Top 100k finish.

      Rough:
      - Sarr trolling me on bench again 😆

Rough: was genuinely engaged and consuming lots of FPL content all season but lots of 50/50 calls on transfers, injuries bans etc went against me which left at +2 million rank by GW 22.

Smooth: finished the season with 13 green arrows in a row to finish just outside the top 200k (not happy with the OR but proud of the recovery I made). The highlights were GW 26 with the Glasner 20 pointer plus BGW34 (Sa pen save, Sessegnon last min goal etc).

      78 pts for GW38
      total pts: 2575

Was having a meh season for majority as red arrow after a wc in gw30 left me 200k. Smooth: Had best 8 week run I can remember to finish 6.5k - nailed the chips (am on Howe and Arteta for 50pts, FH 34 for 93, brought in Bowen and had eze for their nice run of form, brought in semenyo for Murphy in 38 on my bb for total 91)

Saved the best week until last with a gw rank of 15k. That’s my 6th finish inside top 10k and 9th season in top 13k

Rough: First 30 GW where I couldn’t seem to escape the 200-300k rank.

Rough: most of the season to be fair. Finished around 500k which is my par for the past few now so probably a skill issue to large degree. Don't seem to be able to time the risky moves right and that was summed up by yesterday. Torn between Martinelli and Semenyo all week for transfer in and if it wasn't gw38 and we were looking at a longer stretch would have been Semenyo all day, took a slight punt on Martinelli's mins and he starts and misses probably the best chance Arsenal got while Semenyo does his usual 4 shots a game and for once 2 of them go in. That's the game but it was those kind of moves I just couldnt get right all season long. That and wrong choice of gw to free hit did for me probably (plus the skill bit).

After my worst ever season last year, 2.6m, I’ve bounced back with a personal best of 4.3k rank.

Worst season ever at 1.2m, off the back of last season being my worst ever at 600k! Never really recovered from selling Salah in GW6 and going Haaland(c) every week. Ended up 4m!

Gradually edged back up to the 1.5/2.0m mark. Got Palmer in for GW35 on wildcard as captain punt v Man Utd to try and get some rank back but that didn't work neither did sticking with Isak and bringing in Evanilson.

My OR increased by 80 whole spots in GW38. I pretty much flat lined over the last 14 weeks, never climbing or dropping by more than 0.1%. But my final standing inside 5K was my highest of the season and career, so I guess that overall it's a smooth for me.

Its gonna be difficult to know what to do about Salah next season. He's obviously gonna be more expensive in the region of 14-15m because of his points total this season. But he's been terrible over the last third of the season and surely wont produce another season like this aged 33?

And of course all this seasons good performing players like Wissa, Mbuemo, Bowen, Rogers, Semenyo, Wood, Cunha will get big price increases. Can we justify Salah at 14-15m next season?

On the contrary there will also be more enablers who will drop, Palmer, Foden, Bruno if still there, Son maybe?

I think drop off was mainly because of title being tied up, all the stuff with Trent too. He’s nailed in my team just as he was from GW1 this season through to until they secured title this season

Amad will be the golden boy next season. His injury, and Man U being woeful, will mean he largely escapes any significant price rise. 6.5 max for him I think. I won't say add him into your GW1 team, but if he has good fixtures and a nice pre-season, 100% in.

I think he and Haaland will both be 13mill for some reason. I think pricing will be tricky next season. I have had like 8 mil in my bank at times this season xD

Surprised to see Gvardiol top of the defenders. Only one to hit 150+ points and blew very hot and cold.

No way Mbeumo is 8.5 after netting 236 points. Would be ludicrous value

I'd be happy if he was more but I was thinking Mbeumo to Newcastle where there's more competition and he might cede pens to Isak.

Think Gvardiol as a roaming LB has as high a ceiling as any defender with Trent gone. In any case he looks the most nailed City defender now.

Now that the season is over, I would say there were quite a few important tipping points over the season where the decisions ultimately made or break someone's season:

    - jumping off from Haaland on time
    - GW24 Salah TC or AM
    - BGW29 Free Hit or not
    - BGW29 Wood or Bruno captain
    - WC30 picking the right Palace players

Feel free to add if you had some of your own tipping points

I think there's some serious recency bias in your choices here.

Very strange season in terms of dgw and bgw. So little notice at times. I did find it v hard to plan. Also I think no big dgw makes the WC a bit boring. Not keen at all on am chip and only manager 23 PTS. Nailed TC though with Salah gw24 and BB was an absolute disaster gw32. Definitely held on to haaland too long...sold gw10 ...

Finally season ended with OR 250k, my second worst OR since I started playing 10/12 years ago

At least the second half of the season took me to 250k from 3M OR, so it didn’t turn out to be so bad

That's alright for such a rough start. I 've been feast or famine this decade cause once you start badly, it can really snowball. Next season will be my 20th.

      24-25: 29,419
      23-24: 386,315 (worst OR)
      22-23: 558 (best OR)
      21-22: 356,887
      20-21: 230,507
      19-20: 1,453

214k. Worst rank since 2010/11. The game is so much less compelling these days so it's hard to really care. We go again.

Extremely difficult now to gain a decent rank, unless you’re FPL Harry who lucks it every GW hehe

Awful second half of the season
      Never owed Forest defender
      Never owned Wood
      Held Haaland too long
      Held Palmer too long

      Very meh

Finished at 544 overall, highest rank ever and huge redemption from 208K last season. Last 5 seasons now:

    22/23: 4.8K
    21/22: 22K
    20/21: 19K
    19/20: 6.4K

Excited to see how the historical rankings look after this season

Well done. It's weird your all-time rank is only 85k. Much better over shorter spans of course.
