Following our look at £4.5m options, £5.0m-£5.5m picks and mid-priced contenders, let’s complete the analysis of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) forwards with those costing at least £7.5m.

In our position-by-position guides, we’ll analyse the main players fighting to make managers’ opening squads.

OVERVIEW

Which Newcastle assets to buy before Double Gameweek 32?

As you’d expect from premium assets, four of last season’s best seven forwards came from this price bracket. Alexander Isak (£10.5m) led the way on 211 points, a number beaten by three midfielders.

A couple of the others were hampered by injury, whereas Cody Gakpo (£7.5m) could’ve built upon 10 goals and five assists had he not been restricted by Liverpool rotation.

So the main disappointments were Nicolas Jackson (£6.5m) and Darwin Nunez (£6.5m). Chelsea’s frustrating forward had some good moments but ended up missing 21 big chances, while the Uruguayan only started eight times.

At the time of writing, there are 12 players now within this price range.

None look likely to leave the Premier League, despite the media’s determination to unsettle Isak. And while there are rumours constantly linking Yoane Wissa (£7.5m) with an exit, we’re talking domestic switches.

Erling Haaland (£14.0m)

Wednesday team news 4

Despite having his worst of three FPL seasons, it’ll still cost £14.0m to buy Haaland. That’s to deter managers from having both him and Mohamed Salah (£14.5m).

Then again, even a ‘bad’ campaign brought 22 goals, the joint-most shots on target (59, see below) and second biggest expected goals (xG, 22.01) tally.

Best £7.5m+ forwards for FPL 2025/26 1

Not that it tells the whole story. Back-to-back early hat-tricks helped the Norwegian reach a phenomenal 10 goals by the end of Gameweek 5. But, out of nowhere, a huge barren spell for both himself (three strikes in 13) and Manchester City removed the invincibility.

At least that storm looks to be over. The team picked up some late form to secure Champions League qualification, since adding Rayan Cherki (£6.5m), Rayan Ait-Nouri (£6.0m) and Tijani Reijnders (£5.5m) to their squad. Rodri (£6.5m) is back, too.

A good start versus Wolverhampton Wanderers and Tottenham Hotspur precedes the Gameweek 6 clash with Burnley. If Haaland can start like last time, suggesting he can return to the average of 40 attacking returns in each of his first two seasons, Haaland could become hard to resist – especially at a cheaper price than Salah.

Ollie Watkins (£9.0m)

AWB has the assist potential but the fixtures aren't straightforward.

You never know what you get with West Ham.

For AM last season I had Potter against Brentford for bonus point punt. They lost 0-1. So I switched to Arteta for the safe points where they won 1 nil at Arsenal!

Looking at 4.5m defender rotations, I like Dorgu and De Cuyper. For first 7 games rotate well and can bench Spurs defender GW2 and play both. Konsa and VDV(bar GW2) should be solid picks for GW1-7 giving the option of going cheap at the back

    1. Club-De-Belon
      • 4 Years
      4 months, 4 days ago

Fixture is better than alternatives (first 5).
DC chance is at least the same as alternatives.
You possibly pay only 5 not 5.5 for good defender in their squad.

What more do you want to compare?
These are not picks for 38GWs.

      1. Saka White Rice
        • 11 Years
        4 months, 4 days ago

By downgrading to a 4.5 defender you can upgrade a 5.5 midfielder to a 6.5 midfielder. Don't we think combo A is better than B?

        A) 6.5 midfielder+4.5 defender
        B) 5.5 midfielder +NFO defender

I know you can do both but for many people that's the choice

        1. Club-De-Belon
          • 4 Years
          4 months, 4 days ago

that depends on overall team, your team selection is covariable
who would be your 4.5 MID? Are you doubling up on some team that might not be worth taking multiple risks?
Is 6.5 mid better than 5.5 MID just because some guy in FPL towers forecasted their output / user selection somehow?
are you covering good fixture rotation?
          etc.

anyway, NFO defenders or GK are a solid choice for beginning of the season, mostly those for 5.0

Settled in this team for now -

      Areola
      Williams - Udogie - VdV
      Salah - Palmer - Rogers - Kudus
      Bowen - Wood - Welbeck

Gauci - Ndiaye - Mykolenko - De Cuyper

      Have 1m in the bank.

      GW 1 - BB
      GW 2 - Bowen ➡ Gyokeres
      GW 3 - Gyokeres ➡ United striker
      GW 4 - WC
      GW 5 - Save FT
      GW 6 - FH

      This plans covers everything imo.

1.Gives me Haaland and city (BUR) firepower in GW 6 along with Forest and Spurs attack + defense for their good fixture in 6.
      2. Helps me get onboard Arsenal, Villa, Bournemouth, Palace players in GW 4 WC for their great run starting then.
      3. Gives me Arsenal attack for LEE in GW 2.
      4. BB optimised in GW 1 with nailed players for a fast start.
      5. Helps play the first 4 GWs as FHs basically getting to pick players with all the juicy fixtures without having to worry long term.
      6. GW 4 WC helps to see who’s moved where after the transfer window is shut.

P.S. - GW 6 FH is the biggest enabler of this plan.

      Thoughts?

Lots to digest here. I can appreciate the thoughtfulness of this approach to be fair. I play differently so I wouldn’t use all my chips in the first six game weeks but I don’t see anything wrong with your approach. I don’t get the GW1 BB but it’s such a nothing chip without doubles I can’t fault you for getting it out the way. My only recommendation is not to double up on spurs defense since it’s not clear how they will perform.

Tbf, any BB gw1 will do well to get 15 players out.

Managers try things in pre-season and not everyone is fully fit so it's a punt.

I see the attraction in using it early but it needs a certain amount of fortune.

It probably does put you a bit ahead in mini leagues etc.

How is it easier than mid-season when we have loads of previous lineups/patterns to inform the decision? I feel like I usually have one or two surprise non-starters (especially since I do tend to get sucked into new signings), and I see two pretty big risks in the team above (De Cuyper & Reijnders)

Unexpected injuries is one issue later, and changes of formation depending on form and opponent. We usually know who is injured at the start of the season. The trick is to pick a team based on pre season minutes, managers comments etc and not taking fanciful punts. If a manager plays a player in the later pre season games, it’s usually an indication that he is planning to start them in GW1.

Fair enough, but just to say, I have played BB1 a few times before - when it was probably not the best idea - as we only had one in the season. I’ve had mixed results, but never failed to get 15 starters.

I've never played BB1 but did have Barco last year (and I think only dropped Quansah last min).

For me the bigger issue is that later in the season there's usually a starting 4m GK & more info on which are the good cheap enablers, and better TV (I find it hard to make a GW1 team of 15 secure starters that I'm as happy with as a team of 11 with 1 decent sub). Plus I don't really want to be forced into WC2/3. So I'm probably going to play it during AFCON & maybe BB twice before WC2

Is there anywhere to view top FPL players returns in favourable v non favourable fixtures versus runs?

Just the constant switching of players in and out based on green fixture ticker, makes you wonder if the reality could be that you are better keeping strong assets longer term regardless.

Like that defence, couldn’t bring myself to play Anderson every week, I’d punt on O’Riley.

Xhaka the only one I know much about, him for me, good fixtures too.

If Isak eventually goes to the Pool, having him and wirtz or still need Salah?

Don't know about "need" but I would have all 3, although it seems like I'm in the minority here on that. Isak (C) would probably be fine, except my only doubt would be that they rest/rotate him more than Newcastle could given his injury prevalence & UCL schedule etc
