We bring you the key Fantasy Premier League (FPL) notes from two of Friday’s friendlies involving Chelsea and Brentford, including an exciting first outing for Estevao (£6.5m).

CHELSEA 2-0 BAYER LEVERKUSEN

  • Goals: Estevao, J Pedro
  • Assists: Palmer, Antwi

Debutant Estevao was the star of the show as Chelsea opened their pre-season with a 2-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen on Friday.

The Brazilian tapped home after Cole Palmer’s (£10.5m) shot hit the woodwork and fell into his path.

He could easily have returned again, too, having racked up seven shots and three chances created.

“He is very young. He needs to play and for sure, he is going to help. He is a fantastic player.” – Enzo Maresca on Estevao

Above: Estevao’s shot map v Leverkusen on Friday, via Sofascore

Palmer, who regularly drifted into dangerous positions, went off at half-time, with Estevao taking over the No 10 role.

Substitute Joao Pedro (£7.5m) rounded it off late on, firing home in injury time.

Elsewhere, Jamie Gittens (£6.5m) was thrown on in the second half, but Christopher Nkunku (£6.0m) and Nicolas Jackson (£6.5m) were both left out of the matchday squad amid transfer speculation.

Meanwhile, Levi Colwill (£5.0m) is likely to miss the entirety of the 2025/26 season after sustaining a long-term injury.

Trevoh Chalobah (£5.0m) took his place at Stamford Bridge on Friday, but it sounds like the club are already in the market for a new centre-back.

“It is a priority for me, yes. Levi is a fantastic player; what we achieved last season was because of him. He played all games and I love him. We are going to miss him. We are trying to find different solutions. We will see [signing a defender].” – Enzo Maresca

Chelsea return to action on Sunday, as they host AC Milan, before turning their attention to Sunday’s Premier League opener against Crystal Palace.

On Friday’s evidence, they look more than ready.

Chelsea XI: Jorgensen; Gusto (James 64), Acheampong (Anselmino 76), Chalobah (Tosin 45), Cucurella (Hato 45); Caicedo (Essugo 45), Santos (Rak-Sakyi 76); Estevao (Antwi 67), Palmer (Neto 45), George (64); Delap (J Pedro 64)

BRENTFORD 2-2 BORUSSIA MONCHENGLADBACH

  • Goals: Carvalho, Damsgaard
  • Assists: Collins

Caoimhin Kelleher (£4.5m) was a surprise absentee for Brentford on Friday, having picked up a knock in training.

Kevin Schade (£7.0m) also missed out for the second pre-season friendly in a row.

Both players will be monitored over the coming days.

As for the on-pitch action, Fabio Carvalho (£5.0m) and Mikkel Damsgaard (£6.0m) both got on the scoresheet for Keith Andrews’ side.

Carvalho, who has impressed in pre-season and attempted four shots here, volleyed home after a set-piece was headed across goal by Nathan Collins (£5.0m).

A couple of minutes later, a loose pass was intercepted by Damsgaard, who made no mistake.

Notably, Damsgaard’s set-piece deliveries were a real threat throughout at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Elsewhere, Keane Lewis-Potter (£5.0m) lined up out-of-position as a left winger. He put in some decent crosses and came close to scoring, only for his effort to deflect wide.

Igor Thiago (£6.0m), however, looked isolated for large periods and registered just one shot which was blocked by the opposition.

Brentford play again tomorrow against Gladbach at the training ground, with some of those who didn’t play on Friday expected to feature.

Brentford XI: Valdimarrson; Kayode (Hickey 82), van den Berg (Ajer 62), Collins, Henry (Roerslev 82); Jensen (Milambo 75), Yarmoliuk; Carvalho, Damsgaard, Lewis-Potter; Thiago (Henderson 75)

Any ideas what to change with this or GTG?

    Kelleher
    Mykolenko, Nico, Konsa, AWB,
    Salah, Palmer, Malen, Anderson
    Watkins, Haaland
Subs - Dubravka, guiu, de cuyper, ramsey

      Risky going Malen.

The defence really is what I'd call a "meat and two veg" defence, too. Translation: no thrills.

That's what happens when you cram in Salah, Haaland and Palmer. Just isn't worth it imo.

I'm actually torn on this for my own team. I've narrowed it down to Gabriel Cucurella or RAN.

Gabriel is safest and will no doubt bury a few headers.

Cucurella has the fixtures and form, but no Colwill now?

RAN has very high haul potential, but can I trust Pep?

I can see why so many are playing safe with VVD, but I'm a maverick at heart and find that far too boring.

Yeah Gabriel could be the best way to go out of all of them thinking about the pros and cons

I could also have a 5.5m and upgrade a 4.5m to a 5m. Get a forest defender and someone else

I've seen lots doing Tarkowski and Neco Williams in those price ranges. Be careful your defenders don't all have tough fixtures in the same GW, though.

Wirtz is the business. Looks to be taking central positions and already linking up well with Salah. I wouldn't get rid of him in the name if funds.

Assume Sels/Def, Anderson and Wood? Only issue would be if another Forest player becomes the key asset, but I think they are not like other teams where this is a risk.

Whisper it.. but I'm very optimistic regards Minteh this season. In the second half of the season he basically nailed his starting position and Started all but one game from February(13 out of 14) .Brighton transfers usually take a season to fully develop and get comfortable and I can see this season being his moment to shine. His fixtures could have been better though.. eve, MCY, che in the first 6 means I won't be going for him. But he is another great escape option for those of us with sub 7 mids later in the season(perfect jumping off option from kudus for eg around gw 7)

True. Hence why he could be good from GW7. That being said I'm considering starting with Mitoma.. he is basically fixture proof when fit and usually does well in the tougher fixtures on the counter. I think everyone has forgotten how good he is due to his injury and fatigue hit season 2 seasons ago which affected the start of last season too. Even last year he had his heel injury from Feb or so and barely started. Now he is fully fit and ready I'm expecting big things. One of those instances where the past 2 seasons of bad luck has kept his price down. A player like him should easily be priced like eze etc but got a stay of execution due to two injury and fatigue hit seasons(and he still performed well last season all things considered)

Try and find the .5 if you can. Some upside in the 5.0 options from defcon mainly. I was set on Baleba from them the most but Dewsbury-Hall is tempting me now. Christie and Wharton are ok too and even Le Fee and Stach from promoted teams arent terrible options. Cant see any 4.5s

More of an issue for RAN and Gvardiol I'd say. They havent addressed that defensive issue at all and assumed Rodri would fix it. Always a risk after a bad injury and his advancing years. Every chance he will never be that player again anyway.

Darlow and Dubravka have quite favorable first 6 matches if you switch between them. However Darlow is probably getting replaced by Perri so it is probably not worth it. Kelleher got just a knock, he will be fine for first gameweek.

Surely Darlow is deadwood now with the fantastic Perri signed up.
I think it was just a niggle that kept him out of the last warm up.

I was intending to use Darlow only for gameweek 1 and then use 0.5m for new goalkeeper by gameweek 4 but I realized it is really not worth using a transfer for a keeper.

Thoughts on this draft (assuming Rogers is fit, if not I’ll likely go Mitoma). VDV and Richards rotate very well to begin with and came play both in GW4 when forest play Arsenal.
    Sanchez (Dubravka)
    Virgil Vdv Williams (Richards Esteve)
    Palmer Salah Gakpo Rogers Kudus
    JP Watkins (Guiu)

      Is Richards nailed?

I like the team, lots of cover on the popular players and some differential types, Gakpo had the potential to be a strong contender if he starts regularly.

Kudus, not convinced myself but everything else looks solid.

Looks like my draft comes down to Fernandes or Watkins.

Bruno has more routes to points but Watkins has the fixtures and looked really sharp.

      Unfortunate you can't fit both...

Both could be gold but Watkins seems safer to start until we see how Man United look with so many new players. Bruno is a good pick though with a variety of routes to points and is a fun pick.

Currently leaning towards Bruno mainly because of gw3 captaincy.

Would you bank on Reijnders, Eze, or Gakpo?

    1. Fodderx4
      • 8 Years
      3 months, 28 days ago

Reijnders at 5.5m is worth the risk imo, especially as can cover with a cheap defender. I think he can score goals and get defensive points and appeals to me more than someone like Anderson.

Gakpo I like short term but if Isak signs then not so much. If your wild carding early then he's worth starting with.

Eze i wouldn't get until the transfer window closes as would be a poor pick at Arsenal or another big club but a solid choice if confirmed staying with Palace.

    2. Tonyawesome69
      • 6 Years

Not sure why you have listed Reijnders as he's 2m cheaper than Eze/Gakpo.

Ideally Eze but transfer rumours makes it tough to go there. Gakpo probably first choice LW

      Reijnders: Pep.

Gakpo & Eze: easy wait for GW4, when their fixtures turn and transfer window closes

Reconsider the Beto pick, uncertainy with new CF signing Barry.

Beto is the only player I'm not sure about.

I think Gabriel will start after another poor performance by Kiwior against Villareal. Rogers' injury also appears not to be serious.

    Goalkeepers getting niggles

Seems to be a bit of a theme tbh

Dubravka & Kelleher missing segments of PS

I'm looking at Hermansen and even he's had groin niggles

    Even Sa has back tweaks

May be a case for going Kelleher & Vald now

I've gone Bowen to Wood (could be any other 7.5 by GW1), to enable Kelleher to Sels

Not considering Sanchez with Colwill injured, but I still like Cucurella's advanced positioning

Thoughts on this 4-4-2 setup? Feel like there are attacking and defensive contributions achievable in this defence.

          Sels
          VVD, Porro, Neco, AWB
          Salah, Palmer, Wirtz, Rogers
          Watkins, Wood

It’s really good, like you I prefer Porro to Kudus from Spurs. I don’t double up on defences so I’d go Sanchez over Sels and I’d start with Pedro over Wood the way he’s banging them in!
