With new Fantasy Premier League (FPL) rules and new arrivals to consider, the Scout Squad are back ahead of Gameweek 1.

This week and every week, our in-house team of Sam, Marc, Tom and Neale will discuss who they think the best FPL players are for the upcoming Gameweek in isolation.

Only five players have been given universal backing for the opening weekend…

MORE ABOUT THE SCOUT SQUAD

The focus is only on the upcoming Gameweek with the Scout Squad, so there’s no medium-term planning involved.

The players who get the most votes are much more likely to make the Scout Picks, although the final XI can’t exceed £83.0m – so occasionally, cheaper alternatives have to be found.

Each of our writers must meet the following requirements for this feature:

At least one sub-£5.0m goalkeeper
At least one sub-£5.0m defender
At least one sub-£6.0m midfielder
At least one sub-£7.0m forward
No more than three players from the same club

Has anyone else considered ways to get arsenal coverage for GW2?

I've been pondering
1. FH2
2. Salah to Saka (would give also money to get Bruno C for GW3)
3. Wirtz to Saka (1.5 itb)
4. Bowen/Pedro to Gyökeres

Wont have Haaland and not going to C Palmer in London derby, so it'd be Salah away to Castle or high ceiling Arsenal pick

  Strange to give yourself that headache. Toss up between Sarr and Reijnders. Sarr will play and this is one of the main games you have him for surely.
  Reijnders will play but whether he starts or not is highly debatable although I note that Scout Lines ups have him and Cherki starting. Last game ofc both looked good but one subbed in for the other.

If City sign Donnarumma and Rodrygo they probabky have the best transfer window and are back to having a world class squad that competes for the Prem and UCL.

  think we are seeing a new style of city though. donnarumma isn't great with his feet compared to ederson and with pacy players like cherki doku and potentially rodrygo I bet we see a more hoof ball approach potentially with haaland dropping a little deeper to be the man to win flick ons.

  I am set on BB1 too just to get it out of the way…the team with 4.0 def and 4.5 mid/striker doesn’t look right and much better. Not worried about Dubravka start? I went 5.0/4.5 or maybe will do 2x 4.5 keepers as not sure if he’ll start

  Think the last poll had 55% BB in GW1. I certainly am.
  
  Could well work I just don't any risks in a BB side - RAN and Cherki although I say both likely to start so risk reward is probably sense.
  
  I prefer Diouf to AWB though. I currently share 7 of your front 8 (don't have Cherki). For the no Salah or Haaland drafts I guess the big question is who to captain which I keep changing my mind on!

    Can't have everyone mate.....I am not that hot on Salah....LIV will share goals and fixtures not that good at the start....if Salah starts firing and Haaland fails, then will reconsider but for now I am sticking with Haaland

I really hope Dubravka doesn't start. So many people have him on a GW1 BB. I've done my bit, told enough people that he's not nailed. Now I want to reap the rewards of paying the 0.5 extra and being a nice lad.

    I'd happily go Hermansen and triple-up on West Ham defence (Areola was my original pick), but what makes you sure he's going to start?

  Could be. Fixtures aren't great and it's no clear if his DC potential in tougher fixtures will be diminished this season. Zubi could allow him attack more, but new tactics could see him holding back to allow Zubi or the LB to join the attack. I went for Zubi in my team

  Had him in several drafts and don't think he's a bad pick by any means just maybe there are better picks. Him and Zubi look very good together though so far.
  
  For now I've gone Kudus but if he fails GW1 and the filesale starts I have certainly considered Rice GW2 as a possible off ramp for him or any of my mids (who are all 6.5m+).

  The fixtures aren't there to start. Let's see how he plays. If he's on corners/FKs, mopping up some DCs and the fixtures turn in 7 I can easily see myself picking him up.
