Liverpool v Bournemouth team news: Ekitike, Wirtz, Frimpong + Kerkez start

Gameweek 1 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) gets underway shortly, with champions Liverpool at home to Bournemouth.

Kick-off at Anfield is at 20:00 BST.

Most FPL interest will be in Liverpool.

Their starting XI is the same one that lined up against Crystal Palace in the Community Shield, with one exception – Alexis Mac Allister is deemed fit enough to start in central midfield, so Curtis Jones makes way.

Mohamed Salah, Florian Wirtz, Cody Gakpo and Hugo Ekitike make up the front four.

Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez are part of the backline, with no sign of Conor Bradley, who missed the end of pre-season with a muscle injury.

Ryan Gravenberch is suspended as a result of his red card on the final day of 2024/25.

Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola includes new signings Djordje Petrovic, Bafode Diakite and Adrien Truffert in his starting line-up.

£4.0m FPL defender James Hill is benched.

Justin Kluivert remains out, so David Brooks joins Antoine Semenyo on the flanks behind Evanilson.

          Which turned out to be a good punt. But a hell of a lot of people punted on Wurtz presumably knowing his style of play last season.

        I think it’s too early to proclaim anything…That being your argument as well.

        But if the template was Salah+Wirtz it was bound to happen that Gakpo and Ekitike would score.

          Exactly. I’m not discounting Wirtz, simply saying it seemed like an expensive punt at this stage. Once he’s had a few games we’re be better placed to know whether he’s a top pick or not.
