With Gameweek 4 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) nearing, our pundits are starting to finalise their teams ahead of Saturday’s deadline.

FPL General, who has three top 500 finishes to his name, is fully committed to going without Mohamed Salah (£14.5m) and Erling Haaland (£14.1m) this season. Having played his Wildcard in Gameweek 3, he discusses his future plans here.

General no Salah Haaland

Gameweek 3 Review

General Gameweek 4

Death, taxes, and a red arrow when you Wildcard! It hasn’t exactly gone to plan so far this season, but, looking at the squad for Gameweek 4, I’m confident the run of green arrows is about to begin.

Overall rank is irrelevant at this stage but I want to note it here so I can look back on it in Gameweek 38 when the salvage mission has been completed. The new troops dropped from 7.7m to 7.9m in Gameweek 3. It can only get better, right?

General Gameweek 4

Captaincy has been the main issue during the first few weeks, having committed to no Salah/Haaland for the season. Cole Palmer (£10.4m) was carrying an injury in Gameweek 1 which we didn’t know about, Bukayo Saka (£9.9m) went off injured after 53 minutes in Gameweek 2, and to top it off, Matheus Cunha (£8.1m) who replaced Bruno Fernandes (£9.0m) in the Wildcard team, lasted just half an hour. Owners of Viktor Gyokeres (£9.0m), be warned: he’s getting the armband this weekend…

New recruits Daniel Munoz (£5.5m), Marc Cucurella (£6.1m) and Joao Pedro (£7.7m) did the business, but unfortunately, they were the only ones who did anything. Across three Gameweeks, I’ve had 13 midfielders play for one attacking return, which was Saka’s goal in Gameweek 2. How is that even possible?

The Emi Martinez (£5.0m) differential blew up in my face, too. Hopefully, he comes back in against Everton this weekend having failed to secure a transfer away from Villa Park. I really don’t want to have to make a goalkeeper transfer after Wildcarding.

It was a close call between Mohamed Kudus (£6.6m) and Ismaila Sarr (£6.5m) ahead of the deadline – another 50/50 that didn’t go well. Sarr does look to be injured, however, so it might work out in the long run.

Chris Wood (£7.7m) survived the Wildcard cull but failed to deliver versus West Ham United, which was frustrating. With Ange Postecoglou taking over at Nottingham Forest, Wood is likely to make way soon. He’s keeping the spot warm for Alexander Isak (£10.4m) with £4.6m in the bank.

Fulham's new forward Kusi-Asare (4.5m) scoring against Spurs in pre-season:
      https://www.youtube.com/shorts/EbuafJjrjdk

Bayern had assured Kusi-Asare that he was backup for Harry Kane this season (Sky Sports Germany). But then Jackson signed, and he was loaned to Fulham. There is an option to buy for Fulham, with a buy back option for Bayern.

I think Muniz and Raul need to watch their back, as significant gametime will reduce the loan fee to zero.

      Best combo on wc:

      A) Raya & Cucurella
      B) Sanchez & Gabriel

      Sanchez can be Pope too?
Or I can double up on Raya and Gabriel?

Munoz or Lacroix? Both pretty equal so far

      1. Moon Dog
          2 months, 24 days ago

Last season Munoz would have scored 156 and Lacroix 148 so if you're looking for long-term value over the season I guess Lacroix. But if you're looking more short term explosive returns to hit the fixtures, then probably Munoz.

It's really tough, been struggling with this one too. Settled on Lacroix/Raya over Munoz/Pope, but I'm going to hate watching Palace without Munoz 😆

              2 months, 24 days ago

That 148 for Lacroix was with 2 apps fewer than Munoz: https://www.reddit.com/r/FantasyPL/comments/1m7jw8m/defenders_and_their_total_points_with_defensive/

Shirley he gets more goals this season too. A threat from set-pieces...

Yes, soon. Even though personally think Chalobah has been great. Josh can play too. Really just going by what Maresca has said about nobody else being able to play to Colwill role.

Evening all. Glad the break is almost over. Feel like my transfers could go insane few directions this weeks.

            Sanchez
            Porro Richards Milenkovic
            Salah Fernandes Reijnders Anderson Sarr*
            Watkins Pedro
            Dubravka / Murillo Guiu Esteve

Which transfer? (Bracket = NFO that starts)

            A) Sarr/Guiu > Semenyo/Mateta (Milenkovic)
            B) Sarr/Esteve > Semenyo/Munoz (Anderson)
            C) Sarr/Esteve > Semenyo/Senesi (Anderson)
            D) Guiu/Murillo > Gyokores/Senesi (Anderson)
            E) Guiu/Murillo > Ekitike/Senesi
            (Anderson)

In D & E I'd be benching Sarr, but team can deal with it. Including it as latest news is the injury wasn't severe.

In all options either the Watkins/Mateta/Ekitike/Guiu FWD becomes Haaland in GW6 via Salah sale.

B: Roll FT and start De Cuyper

Thoughts on this WC team? If Kudus rises another 0.1 (unlikely?), I will have enough to upgrade Pope to Raya (0.4 ITB currently)

            Pope Dubravka
            VVD Gabriel Munoz Senesi Rodon
            Salah Gakpo Semenyo Paqueta KDH
            Gyokeres Mateta Pedro

Looks okay but why Salah and not a Haaland set up?

If it's on fixtures you'd think that Sunday is decent enough for Man City.

Burnley will probably offer Liverpool a tougher test than many think as well.

            What would you do?

            A. Watkins + Palmer —> Haaland + Semenyo

            B. Sarr + Palmer —> Salah + King (means playing Watkins and benching King)

            A) Esteve

Do you have Darlow as the second keeper?

Away at Fulham and Wolves are playable if you have a premium pick with more difficult fixtures.

Leeds look like they have the best defence out of the 3 promoted sides by a mile given the teams they've all faced so far. And I don't see Leeds scoring that many goals, so defcon CB over attacking FB I think...

The Forest shenanigans worry me a tad, as a Wood & Milenkovic owner.

I'm hoping that the combined efforts of the back 5 can resist the input from Ange until at least the Burnley & Sunderland games are over, and keep a couple of clean sheets, but I can feel it in my water that Wood, despite being the revelation amongst forwards last season, is not going to conform to the Ange-ball theory, and is very much on borrowed time.

                So the question is
                1. Sell immediately before his value plummets
                2. Hold until after the two games mentioned above and accept he might have much-reduced minutes.
                3. He'll thrive in an attack minded team

At least your overall rank is making me feel better General. I'm a million up on that but also wasted my WC this week only scoring 38. Ouch. The odd thing is i made a great decision to captain Pedro...unfortunately the rest of the team stinks and i'm now stuck with double forrest and triple spurs. Also brought in Cunha like you so no more messing around... he's been upgraded to Salah who can finally stop ruining me by not being in my team. Surely he has to deliver this week = captain!
