We were treated to goals and clean sheets aplenty in yesterday’s season opener but, for most fantasy managers, today holds higher hopes for a points bonanza. The Dugout Discussion opens as both the champions of England and the champions of Europe take to the stage. The former host Premier League new boys Southampton at 4pm, which is straight after Chelsea’s trip to Wigan. The team news from the DW Stadium is in…

Wigan XI: Al-Habsi, Caldwell, Alcaraz, Ramis, Boyce, Figueroa, McArthur, McCarthy, Moses, Maloney, Di Santo.

Chelsea XI: Cech, Ivanovic, David Luiz, Terry, Cole, Lampard, Mikel, Hazard, Mata, Bertrand, Torres.

Kicking-off his side’s double Gameweek, Roberto Di Matteo is forced to leave out Ramires due to illness, giving Ryan Bertrand an out-of-position start. The rest is as expected, with David Luiz getting the nod ahead of Gary Cahill, and Eden Hazard handed a league debut.

As for the home side, Roberto Martinez can call upon the services of James McArthur after the Scottish midfielder recovered from a knee injury. Elsewhere, Jean Beausejour misses out with Antolin Alcaraz starting in defence. That will likely see Maynor Figueroa pushed up into midfield if Martinez sticks to his 3-4-3 formation.

            I recommend looking at fiso or total fpl price changes and you'll see that Torres is no where near a drop.

    To those thinking of doing the Torres -> Rooney transfer today because they are worried of a price drop, don't do it. Torres needs around 60,000 NTO to drop in price which is very unlikely to happen.

      Rvp... I agree with marks comment in an earlier burning question article... He was good home and away for arsenal, while Rooney is far better at home.

        I agree. Are you concerned about the number of games he'll get, though? Rooney nailed to play pretty much every week. With RVP, I'm not so sure. Still think I'll be doing Torres to RVP.

          I think he and Rooney are first choices.. But anyone from the top sides is prone to rotation when fixtures stack up (Xmas) and champs league games.

            Indeed. Rooney perhaps a little less prone to rotation though. The clincher for me is that RVP will be playing higher up the pitch, and I think he'll get more goals. I expect to be heading into next week with RVP(c) and I can't wait because no one else in my mini league is in a position to do so without a hit.

      Doesn't seem to be able to play the position that he has now. Ventures forward far too much, can't tackle too well and I think he will soon be phased out of the team. Nevertheless, I still think he will rack up quite a few points but there will be better options at 9.0.

      Likely to be good value at 9m and I think he'll get plenty of normal goals and assists too. He loves going off on those forwards runs.

    I know it's early days to judge a young player, but Oscar looked class when he was on. He could very well make the difference between a title winner/runner-up place and 3rd/4th.

      No title to Chelsea as Wigan proved they can be got at still - Ivan cant cope against tricky winger & lack of work rate at time from Hazard & Mata off the ball......plus Torres still looked poor!

      IMO Chelsea need still need a right back & striker to push for Title.
