The World Cup 2014 Qualifiers are up and running, giving Fantasy managers plenty to fret about as our assets turn out for their respective nations. With plenty of games right across the globe last night, we cast an eye over the performances of our Premier League protagonists:

Nikica Jelavic needed just five minutes to serve a reminder of his abilities ahead of Everton’s strong run of fixtures. Jelavic climbed off the bench as a replacement for Eduardo midway through the second-half of Croatia’s home clash with Macedonia and headed home the only goal of the game. Wales were felled 2-0 at home by Belgium, thanks to a couple of goalscoring Premier League centre-halves. Vincent Kompany and Jan Vertonghen grabbed a goal apiece, with the latter highlighting his set-piece capabilities by firing home a free-kick late on.

West Brom’s Zoltan Gera was handed the first 45 minutes in Hungary’s 5-0 win away to Andorra. The Baggies midfielder slotted home a spot-kick just after the half-hour mark to help his side to the top of Group Four. Holland saw off Turkey 2-0 at home as they try to put their dire Euro 2012 display behind them – Robin Van Persie opened the scoring for the Dutch to maintain his fantastic form up front.

Gylfi Sigurdsson helped Iceland to a 2-0 win over Norway last night. The midfielder put his Tottenham frustrations behind him to set up Alfred Finnbogason to fire home his side’s second with less than 10 minutes left on the clock. Edin Dzeko continued the recent form that has seen him score twice and provide an assist in the first three Gameweeks for City. The forward played the full 90 minutes for Bosnia away to Liechtenstein and grabbed a hat-trick in an 8-1 romp.

England got off to the perfect start away to Moldova last night with a Frank Lampard brace helping seal a very comfortable victory. Jermain Defoe, James Milner and Leighton Baines rounded off the scoring. Five players supplied the assists for Roy Hodgson’s side – Tom Cleverley, Glen Johnson, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and subs Theo Walcott and Danny Welbeck were the providers in the 5-0 win. John Terry is thought to be nursing a twisted ankle ahead of the Ukraine match next midweek, while Steven Gerrard was taken off at half-time as a precaution.

France have Abou Diaby to thank for a 1-0 win away to Finland. A shining light in Arsenal’s recent win at Liverpool, the midfielder was afforded the full 90 minutes and fired the only goal of the game on 20 minutes for Didier Deschamps’ side. Diaby’s Gunners team mate Santi Cazorla was also on target in Spain’s hammering of Saudi Arabia. The summer signing from Malaga opened the scoring as Vicente Del Bosque’s side racked up a 5-0 friendly win. Tottenham’s new boy Clint Dempsey was amongst the goals last night but his efforts were not enough to stop the USA losing 2-1 away to Jamaica

Repost since i didnt get any responses last time

    So my current team is
    Friedel-federici
    Hangeland-Rafael-Fabio-Fonte-Cuellar
    Larsson-Cazorla-Hazard-Pienaar-Noble
    RvP-Tevez-Graham

I still have 2 mill in the bank

Upon the next gameweeks, am i thinking straight to do
    A)Vermaelen in Rafael out
    B)Fletcher in Graham out
C)6.0/5.9 mill midfielder in larsson out (depending on if Rafael reaches 5.7 or Larsson goes back up to 6.5)
And if yes in what order?
    Thanks in advance

Is Adam Johnson + Graham > Dyer + Berbatov a daft move this week?

I do want Berba, Fulham's last performance was poor but they always do much better at home.

What do you think ? IMO he shouldn't have played a single minute, I'm not saying he's not good but considering what chelsea have available..

IF he were to play regular, which he won't, then he will be worth having as a 4.5m Chelsea defender with a good chance of oop. At this time Chelsea don't look good for CSs and Betrand would get many attacking points. It's all irrelevant though as there is no way he'll nail a first team spot this season.

    Lads,
Bit of advice if you all would:

I have been playing FF for 6 seasons now (history deleted on my link last season, don't know why). Each year I will be in the 20-50k band without fail.My question is this,to the more experienced guys here how do you break into the top 10-5k band or beyond, what is your 'secrets' to success. Is it:

    1) Playing the % with regards to form of players
    2) Form vs fixtures
    3) Taking hits to get on a bandwagon
    4) Playing your (c) choice safe each week
    5) some GW having a punt on your (c)
    6) transfers early or late in the week
    7) Bit of luck

Just wondered how you guys go about it,if you had any advice would be appreciated

I finished 8K in my first season last season so I'm not really more experienced or anything, but here goes

1 - definitely, but you have to base some players on fixtures.
5 - yes, but not too often, last season I took a punt on Mata (c) instead of RVP vs Fulham at home during his hot streak, he drew a blank and Mata got 30 points. It's educated like that which will help, but, for example this week where RVP has Wigan at home, it's best to go with the obvious option as there aren't many alternatives.
7 plays a massive part from about 1K-20K too, imo.

      Hi Tibbs,

As a casual I once reached 33,000, off my own back. It was hell trying to replicate.

No easy fix to this one. Better informed decisions using all the things you've mentioned is the only thing that really works.

The higher you get, the more luck is involved. ie: all good choices / players in theory. The job as I see it is to minimise this and then maximise informed points choices. It's a fine balance, sort of like how attacking-y a manager makes his team on a particular gw.

You've done well to get those ranks without going deeper. The advice on here... well, it's a mixed bag and you have to be discerning, but it'll get you thinking along lines that WILL make you a better player!

All prev winners who claim to spend "about an hour" a week are like lottery winners. You're doing ok so far (!), well on track for top 20K and another 2000+ score. That's already top 1% stuff.

I agree with joa and all your points play a factor. But just when u think u have a formula, I reckon the unexpected happens. Eg injuries, surprise teams etc.

It was my first yr last yr as well, but I also reckon that there would be so man ways to play the game but still end up with the same scores. So many people with all different strategies eg when to play wc, taking hits. I bet the top 1000 didn't all play with identical game plans.

I read this website (cant remember the site) last year that gave keys to fantasy which I used. It gave keys things like planning ahead, don't leave setting ur team to the last minute, try to play forwards as much as possible and a 3-4-3 formation, don't have non playing players, etc.

You're a lot better than I am, but I'd suggest that you probably have to be prepared to finish lower in order to finish higher. You can consistently get a good score playing sensibly (as you've proven yourself), but the guys at the top have presumably taken some educated risks and had them pay off. Of course, they could just as easily not pay off and you might finish 50k lower or whatever.

Are there people that consistently get in the top few k year in year out? I have no idea, but I'd guess there is still too much luck involved in the game for that to be the case.

I'm currently in the top 600 at the moment.... Sure not to last! This is my third season, I finished last season pretty well and the only advice I could give is that I was prepared to take a hit fairly often to get the form player in, it gave me a nice team value, so nearing the last couple of months you're able to get a top team, oh, and a massive slice of luck where your captains choice is concerned 😉

Best gk combo going forward, thinking Foster and Jussi, but currently on Foster / Begovic (which worries me because of Stoke's dismal fixtures). Any improvements? Getting Demel so don't want to double up on West ham.

Foster/Begovic should work well as long as you can stomach GW8. Foster and Jussi rotate well for fixtures but dismally for H/A and with both teams only likely to keep CSs at home this isn't very good.

Not sure what plan to take going forward. I am quite happy with my team but I dont want to waste transfer opportunities and am sat with a bit of cash in the bank.

    Foster Taylor
    Baines Williams Saylor Cueller Gunter
    Hazard Cazorla Nolan Michu Guithre
    RVP Tevez Graham

    1.8m in bank.

I think I might hold off until next week and swap Graham for Fletcher.

Another option was to bring in Pog for Graham and upgrade Michu (but it is difficult as it leaves me with 4 Reading players - need to make a sub keeper switch - a waste of a transfer)

Any other ideas I haven't thought of?

for starters you can only have 3 players from 1 team so you cant bring in pog

id leave your team as it is and maybe look at getting in barfa gw5 or getting ridof graham for anyone
